Well, I use Windows XP 32-bit Professional Edition. Yeah, I am that primitive.

I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm not much of a geek. All I know is that my Videocard is a half-beast, Nvidia GeForce 285GTX and my CPU is an Quad Intel Q8600, 2.52hz I guess.

What I want is better performance with high graphics. I heard if you had more RAM memory (I have 4GB for now) it makes your games run faster. XP 32-bit can only support 3.25

I already tried 64-bit XP, but it's too snappy and bad for me. I had it for a week and still didn't adapt to it.

Any suggestions?

Windows 7 64 works great. I play games usually on high settings now. The only problem with 64 bit is that a lot of things don't support fully the 64bit architecture yet. I've had a few crashes as a result.

They don't need to support 64 bit. Although, some x86 software could have problems on it.

Whenever I upgrade, I'm dualbooting XP and 7... although it may very well be Windows 8 by then.

Did you know that with windows 7 or vista playing videos on a 2nd monitor while gaming on your main monitor is possible

no fuckups & good scaling, 1 - 2 fps loss, you need to use media player tho, no 3rd party ones will do this.

Btw, about dual monitor/tv. Can a game use non-primary monitor when I launch it? Because right now I can launch game only on a primary monitor, not the secondary one.

It still isn't a viable OS for home. It costs too much, and have various functions that you wouldn't even need at home. Although, i woudn't mind AD DS.

If you are doing more stuff than playing games on your computer I wouldn't advise you to change xp.

Simply because windows xp have the highest number of comaitability with both software and hardware.
They just play everything,both new and old stuff.

And another reason is because I find Vista and 7 being very annoying.
A pop-up window pops up for every single thing you do, telling you what's happening.

examples:

You double click Google Chorme to surf the internet and a window pops up "Google Chrome is trying to use internet. Allow ? yes,no".

Then while in a forum you click at a link that will open a new tab,but that doesn't happen and instead you get another pop up window "The page www.something.win is trying to open a new tab.confirm ? yes,no".

You installed a game,and want to play online. You launch it on full screen and select online multiplayer.
Then the game screen minimizes automatically,and you are back at Windows desktop screen with a pop up window telling you "Your game is trying to access internet. Allow or not ?"



It's just annoying...
Since I already clicked for multiplayer or for internet it is the logic thing that I want to play multiplayer or explore the internet. Why to have to confirm it again and again ?

The reason you see that is because your security settings are set up that way. If you change the settings you can reduce the number of warnings you get...you also increase the chance of being infected with malware.

Bullshit. UAC doesn't care if some site needs to open a tab. It doesn't consern system in any way. Now, if site wanted to install some software on your PC then you would get a warning. Or Chrome is just an amateurish soft that somehow needs admin privileges to open tabs. Can't say since I haven't used it, but I doubt it that's the case.

Besides, if you're so sick of UAC then turn off it althogether.

No, that's because something wrong with his system if he's getting warning about trivials matters. You can get warnings only when some system changes are being made or program needs write access to restricted files.

UAC isn't, as they say, a security boundary. Working under restricted user account is.

I have had UAC off so I haven't been seeing any warnings and thus I don't know exactly what would trigger the warnings. It is strange that his system is complaining about little things like that opening tabs. I just turn off most (bloated) security stuff.

Still, if UAC was on and an application wanted to make changes to my settings (such as turn off AVG and several services) it would notify me and I would think before saying that it is OK. [I mean, why would a game need to change my registry settings?] It would have saved me the trouble of using safe mode to kill a trojan I picked up while not paying attention to my browsing and installing/application running.

I didn't like the notifications every time I installed something...but I did set it to low settings recently (in response to my episode)

Besides the fact that when I first loaded up Windows 7, I was installing something pretty much every day...
Actually, several of my programs trigger it. I think it is because they were installed as administrator or something...either way, it makes running applications that I use everyday (for school) very annoying. I either have to go and set folder permissions or just turn it off...

I'm not talking about Office, by the way: Office runs fine with UAC.
