Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7?

#61

As I've said before, most malware (at least if it is worth worrying about) will attach itself to a system process anyway so it doesn't matter if you use a non-admin account... On the other hand, using a non-admin account can cripple some anti-virus programs functionality. The reason we bitch about using a restricted account is that we actually use the computer to get things done instead of just reading e-mails, forums and being emo or whatever.

There is no such thing as an OS that is immune to malware, but Windows is more popular so more malware is made to run on it, though cross-platform malware is becoming more and more common these days, the only real way to protect yourself is to write protect your Hard Drive and BIOS, and if you did that your computer would not be good for anything and you may as well not bother turning it on in the first place.

And how would it attach itself without having administrative rights? It won't. While browsing the net from the admin account you are giving malware a chance to have the same administrative rights as your browser. Thus, they have enough power to make whatever they want.

Antivirus software are mostly services that start under a system or admin accounts. They aren't affected in any way.

Things like what exactly? I doubt any of those things take more time than browsing the net, or playing games, or making spreadsheets, or whatever. Besides, you can run browser from a restricted account and still be under admin. I can't see one reason to browse internet from an admin.

Yeah, the past few months I've been trying to find a good operating system. I've gone through probably eight operating system changes going through the same ones.

Windows 7 and Windows Vista suck for gaming, at least in my experience. Every game I run crashes at some point or other, whether it be Fallout 3, Crysis, Duke Nukem, etc. I upgraded my video card, so now I can't use Ubuntu because the NVIDIA drivers won't work as it crashes Ubuntu.

With Windows XP I couldn't get my sound drivers to work at all. Apparently the drivers are built for Vista+. Soon I'll try giving my computer a hackintosh operating system. I hate Mac OS X even more.

Anybody have a suggestion for a Linux OS or something, I'm at a dead end here.

Well, I use Windows XP 32-bit Professional Edition. Yeah, I am that primitive.

I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm not much of a geek. All I know is that my Videocard is a half-beast, Nvidia GeForce 285GTX and my CPU is an Quad Intel Q8600, 2.52hz I guess.

What I want is better performance with high graphics. I heard if you had more RAM memory (I have 4GB for now) it makes your games run faster. XP 32-bit can only support 3.25

I already tried 64-bit XP, but it's too snappy and bad for me. I had it for a week and still didn't adapt to it.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I'm agree with you, among all the 3 OS, I prefer windows XP 32 bit too, it is the fastest one. I also tried Vista, Win7 32 and 64, not so happy with them but now I'm with win7 64 bit cause MS will not support XP soon.

7 is fine for me for any game I want to play. XP seems the most compatible with older games, though, I guess. I don't know, I've never had a problem with 7 for anything yet.

Stay the fuck away from Windows Vista & Windows 8 within a thousand yards. Windows XP was a great OS during it's time. Now I'm very happy w/ Windows 7 Pro.

So why is necroposting bad or illegal at forums for? I don't see anything wrong w/ it IMHO.

Because it is usually some random new user digging the grave of several threads simultaneously.
