mmhm that was me. i punched your ip into the bat and it went to the main screen, then after a few seconds it loaded your server on hotel hell. however i couldn't move or type messages, and then i died and couldn't respawn. this might be issues with eduke32 itself. howver, progress!

Sunday should be fine, but if it's 17:00 GMT, and I'm GMT +10.5, doesn't that mean it'll be 3:30 a.m. for me? ;)

Is it possible to make it 4 hours later? I hope that doesn't conflict with anyone.

Edit: I tried connecting to High Treason's 87.102.86.146 server, but the connection failed (didn't work). It went straight to the menu screen but after that everything was as it was with single player. Did your IP address change again?

Second Edit: I noticed the name of the zip with 1594 is eduke32_win32_20100123-1594, but when I start up eduke32 it says 20100122, which is the same as in the zip for 1592. Does that have any relevance? I'm sure I copied them in properly.

It's a start at least, your player was glitched a lot, I don't even know if hese features have been tested online yet before, though I think they have.

You should try editing your EDuke32.cfg in notepad next time and change the following option to look like this;
NoAutoLoad = 1
It is in that file somewhere, basically this forces the game to not run the HRP, because even going in 8-Bit color still parses the hrp def files. as that has been known to cause problems with this. oh, and you are on Atomic Edition version of duke3d.grp right?
I won't be doing anything else today, I'm gonna go to sleep soon.

I hope the time can be changed for you, but I also hope this ends up working. if it doesn't, you'll all just have to go for yang.
Edit: My server is off or the night, I can switch it back on if you want (though I probably won't be there to respond), if this is the case, play with the CFG with the option in this post, also try setting color to 8-Bit. As for the version thing, I dunno, seems they forgot to change the version number in the program, as an "FC" (File compare) shows both .exe files as being somewhat different, so I assume they just forgot to change the text somewhere.

i checked my CFG file and everything seems to be in order. let me know if you put your server back up. i'll be home tonight so i can do some more testing.

As far as I am aware we were using that one (1594), I was when I went online with it (though I was not when I posted in the prototype issues thread) but I'm gonna poke stuff about and do a fresh install of duke with nothing there but eduke and the .grp just to be sure - I actually think something from either DukeBike or Duke 2D is getting in the way. Maybe all people in this should do that in the end, that way we can be sure there are no differences on each machine, I also think that if you had a game dir selected that it isn't un-selecting it. Wonder if Polymer is causing problems (I left it on at first).

I will probably fire the server up again some time later anyway, see what happens with it this time. It was fun just to see someone else had joined/suicided though, I'd nearly forgotten what that looked like.

I edited my shoddy launcher (That will remain it's official title for now) again, the new version looks at your .cfg and should tell you if it is autoloading. Also the code for remembering the IP address won't forget it anymore (I think) as I have altered the way that works. For some reason I also threw a readme up for it, might come in handy one day, like for virtual toilet paper probably. If you want that, it's at the same place as before.

Edit:

Never tested 1594 before going online yesterday, it won't work on my LAN, so I am assuming it is the problem, looks like we might have to use 1592 for now; http://dukeworld.duk.../20100122-1592/

All online games should be in a mod-less directory, completely vanilla. No HRP or nothing.
Anyone who has ever joined one of my YANG games knows this from experience because I will quit the game straight after waiting 2 fucking minutes for them to load the map.

Best online play is achieved from,
Vanilla setup, 32 Bit Polymost.

I have not personally tested 1594 yet, so I can not say anything about it working or not.

I just started a game using High Treason's exe. My IP is 192.168.1.2 (that's my IPv4 address anyway, I hope that's the right one). I'll leave it running. Feel free to join, but this is mainly to test whether people can join. I will check up on it every now and then to see if anyone's inside.

Edit: I'm using 1594. I'll tell people when I take the server down, but until then I'll be standing I'll be standing underneath the million dollar man sign outside the cinema (it's hollywood holocaust). If you try joining, tell us how it went.

You sure that's your IP? go to http://whatismyip.com/ and see what that says. If I don't fall asleep and you find that IP, I will try joining it.

Hmm, EDuke fails to connect, but that IP seems to exist. Might be your firewall or router, but I've no idea how to fiddle with that sort of stuff, if that's the case it is probably something to do with NAT and some ports being closed on the router.

Of course it could be at my end, it has been known on my ISP as there isn't another one here so why the hell should they spend any money to do a decent job. So you may as well see if someone else can get in.

I'm gonna run a server on 1592 and leave that going (Probably for the next 9 hours) so if anyone wants to test with that build they can. Hopefully one of these will work (I'm actually hoping it is Micky C's server that works, because I'm practically pay as you go on my bandwidth here).

Yeah I was never able to host a room with YANG either. I managed to get into your game, but it was weird. I got out of it, I might try going back in though (hope it doesn't chew up too much bandwidth)

Edit: I went back in, but I wasn't able to pick anything up (weapons, inventory items) or break anything (like vent covers, pots ect...). Actually I picked up a large medpack. Anyway the level quit with the error message "too many sprites spawned"

Well I went back again, and started using FRAPS to record it in case something went wrong, and it did. I'll post the video in the multiplayer issues thread.

I was reading the log remotely and managed to screw it up and crash it. should be back up but it all seems a it hit-and-miss really. I shan't lan into it again either as that upset the sprites (Frozen animations and stuff like infinite spawning sharps) be sure you are running on 1592 from that link I gave out earlier to join my server, also player names seem to mess it up (If I ever play as "DUKE" horrid things happen) so start EDuke normally fisrt (or do it in the CFG file) and change your name and color as automatic color also seems to cause problems. Also two names that are the same seem to break it, another reason not to use "Duke" or "DXZeff" though I doubt you would enter the latter of those anyway.

I'd ask that anyone that goes in does not exit the level, I dunno what that might do. I don't expect anyone would do this anyway though.

Shouldn't eat too much bandwidth, I wonldn't do it if I was worried about that (I already owe about £70 anyway, and I can't see this using even a gig (£0.98 worth) up in one night and even if it does, it isn't really a significant amount.

okay so i got into high treasons server using 1592. i spawned and was able to move after dying first. very glitchy. could pick up weapons but would die and respawn, sometimes stuck in a ceiling if i used a door or elevator. also noticed a problem where my bulets would all hit one spot on the wall next to the burning trash bin in E1L2 no matter where i looked. i could not see my rockets or explosions either. i could also use cheats, surprisingly.

The getting stuck to the ceiling what I have the video of. I went through the door into the adult book shop and I appeared at the place I spawned at, bobbing up and down on the ceiling not being able to leave the sector. Hopefully the video will clear things up with the developers.

Edit: I went back in and took another video with more bugs. Went I stopped using fraps (for me it's the num + key) it went back to the main menu, I'm not sure if that's a coincidence or not. What am I meant to do when I go to the main menu? The only thing I can do is quit then go back in.

Wow, that's weird... I'm stood next to that burning trash can. that damn invisible glitch again. I've had a couple of the issues you listed though, try deleting the cache files (even grpfiles.cache) - dunno why, but it worked for me every time, got a rough idea what that might concern. maybe I should add that to the launcher code.

I'm gonna close it and mess about again, then it goes back up and I'll just leave it like that for the time being.

Edit: Running, files you need to delete before running are;

textures
textures.cache
grpfiles.cache

It makes a difference for some reason.

I did that, and when I picked up the atomic health next to the secret holoduke, it went to the main menu. I'm still trying to upload the videos and post them to the MP issues thread, but it's slow going for some reason.

I thought I did... I was wrong. Mine is there now (and yeah, it's an AOL address, but it works in MSN) though if anybody is going to contact me on there, I won't be awake too much longer (probably aout another hour or so, seeing as I am working on my telnet menu anyway).

As for this server, I'm stumped as to what it is now, it works OK on the LAN here, but that's not to say that the problem isn't at my end of course. I'll keep it running regardless and I can't be bothered to walk that far to switch it off.

Edit: though you probably know, my server is off for now and we may have found the cause of these problems.

I put up my MSN as well. But school starts in one and a half days and I won't be able to try it out during the week (ok yes I will but it'll be at random times). Still, at least the first week is only 2 days long ;)

I've taken my server down, it'd been up for a while, and I finally posted the videos of the bugs I encountered into the MP issues thread.

hey everyone, quick update from me.
yesterday classes started so i won't be on regularly. but if anyone can (at no significant expense) keep a server or two up during the day then we could access it on our own time to test.

i'm still up for matches on sunday i will note that my sunday schedule has changed a bit and i cannot do anything after 11 o clock in the morning (-5 GmT) maybe i could do something later, but that pushes into the evening. perhaps as i said earlier we could have matches a few times a week, not just one.

if we can arrange a time maybe we could arrange our first meet THIS SUNDAY !! : D it might be very glitchy but at least it will help TX out a bit with bug reports.

I've started one on 219.90.164.153. It's E3L1 Raw Meat, Dukematch with spawn. Last time I tried hosting it didn't work but I've changed some things around and hopefully it works now. Try connecting and see what happens. I'm running 1594.

1592 definitely works alot better than 1594 : /
it also seems that having the exact same version of eduke32 is essential or it won't load

Somebody just came onto my server, but it was really buggy. I'm going to take it town and put one up with 1592.

Yeah, that was me. It crashed right away the first time with the "Too many sprites spawned. " message. The second time I was on for a few minutes before I got kicked to the title screen.

Edit: I tried with 1592 just now and I could not connect.

I went out of it then got back in, hope it works now. The title screen always happens to me when I'm a client, and the too many sprites spawned bug happened to me once as well. I didn't get that message this time though. This time I'm running E4L1 the birth.
