There's a chance I might want to use textures from "The Fith Element" for a small EDuke project at a later time, provided you'd be OK with that? Full credit for them would go to you and any other artist that was responsible for their existence of course. Though it's always a shame to see a project be abandoned like this.

Yeah sure no problem you can make use of them! If anyone has good ideas or something that could be good use for this map so it could somehow finish, let me know or pm me!!

EDuke32 supports MD3, it's just a matter of taking some CS Source hud models and using the correct animations.

My counter strike models are mdl, vtm and vtx. Is the mdl file supported? And if so how are you supposed to provide skins for the tiles?

You have to decompile the models, open the .smd in a 3D modeling program (3DS Max, Blender, or Milkshape) import the animations in the sequence that they need to be within the model(or animate new ones). Export to an .MD3. Setup the def file so that it reflects the animation/model/textures properly, and there ya go.

You'll have to convert the VTX/VTF files (the VMT files are not important, they're HL2 texture definition files) to TGA/PNG with VTF Edit:

I recommend "crowbar" for decompiling Half-Life 2 models.

You will also need an SMD importer. (Google that, you'll find it. Make sure it matches whichever version of the above you're going to use.)

You need to get the appropriate smd importer for the appropriate version of the program you're using. IE: 3DS Max 2010 requires an SMD importer for that version. Posted Image

http://www.wunderboy...s/smdimport.php

Those should give you a leg up.

Also, make sure you open the RIGHT .smd file. Some of the smd's that are dumped out of an MDL are the phys mesh and other things that won't contain the model proper. This can be ascertained by the name and filesize. Posted Image

Yaaar!!! I just upgraded from 2009 to 2014 3dmax lololol. Haven't played with it yet tho.

Hahah, I figured as much on looking at file sizes. I got it to open in Milkshape and was satisfied with just that. I'll have to try the smd importer you referred to get 3ds to work. I was trying to just go into file > open.... figured out you had to go to file > import in order for it to work.

Is there really a difference on the three programs (3ds max 2014, Milkshape and blender)? Or is it more of a personal preference to what you find more visually appealing?

You could also try to use Noesis to save the mdl files directly to md3. But I donīt know if this works with animations.

There must be multiple versions of mdl? Some do convert to md3 intact with animations in Noesis and some mdl's do not load at all. I have no idea why.

Yes there are plenty of different versions; all models from Half-Life 1 and all generations of the HL2/Dota2 engine use various MDL formats.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I really really wish he would finish Gotham. That was so unlike anything else being done in Eduke.

Months ago when he released the unfinished projects he said he was going to move on to something else. I don't know if he has changed his mind or not. Maybe he will answer here.

IMO darkcaleb has a problem where he's unable to work on a single mod consistently and tends to lose interest when he focuses on one thing for too long. This is evident by the sheer number of WIP mods he's started up. Hence he's unlikely to actually finish any of them.

I probably wouldn't get my hopes up too much.

So, looks like i'm back on the sadle on this project. It's going slow but, i'm getting there B) I have been doing allot stuff these last couple of month's and, it's getting somewhere. I made a choice of getting the Resident Evil Tc back from the dead because: a couple of month's ago the map Dawn of the Pork by Jolteon and ofcourse Resident Evil 7 motivated me to come back. I think this project had allot of up's and downs, but i'm gonna do everything in my power to get this done. I'm having progress on 3 maps right now and it's more then I had done in the past. The mod will use as less possible models only when needed to make sure keeping the fps down. I have posted screens on my blog and i will try to update as much as possible to make sure that to get it to a certain point of release.

Media for now:

And keep on the lookout at my blog: http://jerichoprojec...e792f40c08ffc9c

So I read through this whole thread, got excited from the screenshots, then got bummed out when you abandoned it, and then the happy surprise that you've picked it up again.

The aesthetic is really nice! Wish you the best of luck with this, and keep us posted with new screens :)
