I want to offer this download on my site. However, I noticed he has included a modified version of the Duke3d.GRP but it looks to contain all the Atomic 1.5 content. In theory someone could use this to launch the original game? Is it legal to distribute this now? I just want to make sure I'm not overstepping my legal boundaries by hosting this download. Thanks!

a lot of files in that folder can be removed, I tried deleting most of them that seemingly not needed for the map to work and it was fine, except I accidentally deleted something that made custom sounds work. Someone who knows eduke moding better than me could help clean up the package.

You're stuck because the map is fucked. Checked it in the editor and it contains zero-tagged SE15's in two unrelated effects. So you have to close this door (in a completely unrelated part of the level!) for the washing machine to move off and let you pass through the hole. The map abruptly ends soon afterwards and Death Row level (E1L3) from the original game is loaded.
Reported the mod as inappropriate. The author didn't even bother to compile an actual release and just zipped the entire game, including the log files exposing his local paths, user name and machine config, and forcing everybody who already owns the game to download extra needless content and either install another copy of Duke3D or manually set everything up to work with their existing game copy. Not to mention that the game is not shareware and shouldn't be uploaded along with mods. I guess he didn't care much about playtesting either.
This feels like a leaked unfinished snapshot. There's no text file attached whatsoever, the progression is buggy, the swing doors are buggy, the hints are random and there's absolutely no clue that one should keep that damn door closed to access the hole in the laundry, indicating that it's also a bug. The modified DUKE3D.GRP contains three extra copies of each level, but they aren't gonna work due to the filenames exceeding eight characters, so the actual maps are placed outside the GRP (note that the "release" kept the working backups intact). It's a shame because the map contains some cool references, a decent amount of detail and builds a creepy atmosphere that has a bit of Half-Life and RTCW feel.

Holy crap! You're right! The door slides into the wall so when it's open, it doesn't even look like a door is there... and it's tough to close too.
Just as you said though, once I closed it, the washing machine moved forward.
I also see the SE error noted when starting the map in the logs:

Thanks!
The map does feel unfinished. I was expecting something to happen later on but it just didn't. I'm still going to try the other map files that were in the zip.
Edit:
Just played the other map files that were included and realized that you're suppose to start with 'are_you_sleeping.map'. Oops. That was a short, nicely detailed level that had some horror style to it. It also felt unfinished though.
the_prison_old.map is an old unfinished work in progress of the prison level.
backup.map is an odd copy of Zykov Eddy's Memories map. Maybe the mapper was using it to learn things from? Not sure.

Probably the mapper rushed the release? it happens more often that not.

I feel like this must be a case of the person can use the editor but doesn't really understand how the game is bundled and which exact files make it work (or might make it work for others the way it does for them), and so they straight up share the contents of the whole folder, 'just in case'. Not the first time I would have seen it.

That's a common thing that might happen if you accidentally create a sprite somewhere without realizing it.

Mine is just a backup copy of the "are you sleeping" level. I didn't notice any of Eddy's content there, but anything can happen if you decide to indiscriminately include random files.

The guy doesn't seem to know the editor well either, specifically that you should hi-tag your doors such that unrelated sectors don't trigger each other (a hitag of 0 doesn't differ in that aspect), or that you shouldn't make your swing doors glitch into surrounding sectors. Despite being done using TROR and well-designed overall, the execution of effects is subpar, akin to novice mappers or shovelware-era levels. However, he stated that he plans to add more maps later, so this is likely not a final release.

Thanks for repackaging this! I look forward to getting this hosted on the site. I don't suppose you happened to fix any map SE 15 problems that were noted in the thread?
