Hi everyone, thought you'd appreciate this video I made telling the history of the silly Duke3d mod Quest for Al-Qa'eda and what an effect the game Duke Nukem had on my life:

Hi Jesse, the most functional and bugfixed version of your two mods for newest snapshots is inside the Addon Compilation as "quest1.GRP" and "quest2.GRP" in the repository. They should work even in DOS like many of the addons.

Awesome, thanks! I'll check it out. Do you know what the bugs were that were fixed? here is the latest version I have, which has a few things I fixed in it and has the completed game including expansion pack levels by Kevin Kools AKA Kef Nukem, and Geoffrey van Dijk AKA FakirBaba:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/fberl04h0rc56v89j9nf6/QuestForAlQaeda.zip?rlkey=pspocvvzdshdekw2fvp6z3rx8& st=dyhez72k&dl=0

I can combine them with whatever bugs were fixed and update everything for the compilation and repository.

Straight from the addons_readme.txt.

Quest for Al-Qa'eda: The Hunt for Bin Laden:
> A TC that was released as a standalone "exploitation" game after 9/11. It only consists of three
small levels in an Arabian setting with low details and two different types of enemies, but it's
still kinda fun for as long as it lasts (no longer than 10-15 mins, though). Weapons are "borrowed"
from other TCs, mostly "Platoon". The Arab enemies won't talk much - their stupid mumblings are
funny at first, but they may get on your nerves quickly. BTW: Don't expect to kill Osama...
> Includes bonus episode named "Bonus Missions" with 5 maps:
- "Kickladn" by Devastator (2002) .......................................... kickladn.map
- "H'ndrl'g" by Geoffrey 'Fakir' van Dijk (2002) ........................... h'ndrl'g.map
- "Wo'st'n" by Geoffrey 'Fakir' van Dijk (2002) ............................ wo'st'n.map
- "Gr_tm_p" by Geoffrey 'Fakir' van Dijk (2002) ............................ gr_tm_p.map
- "EliOpter" by Geoffrey 'Fakir' van Dijk (2002) ........................... eliopter.map
> Notes:
- In the "Bonus Missions", you can choose between losing all weapons and equipment when entering
a new level (default) or playing this episode with persistent inventory. To do so, change
change "reset.con" to "alqaeda.con" in "addons.grpinfo".
> Fixes/changes:
- Standalone release converted into file depending on duke3d.grp (saves filesize)
- Renamed: defs.con/game.con/user.con -> quest1_defs.con/quest1.con/quest1_user.con,
grabbag.mid -> q1title.mid, stalker.mid -> q1m1.mid, lev2.mid -> q1m2.mid,
cave.mid -> q1m3.mid, E1L1-E1L3.map -> OSAMA1-3.map, q4al.rts -> quest1.rts
- Deleted: ahoy.voc, arr.voc, barr.voc, bitchn04.voc, comeon02.voc, death1.wav, death5.wav,

- quest1.def: Widescreen graphics for statusbar, sword (by Jimmy), M-16 rifle and Destroyer
- quest1.con: 6 warnings eliminated
- quest1_user.con: Episode definitions added, skill names adjusted, level names added
(Mission 1-3); bonus mission episode (slot #6) added
- reset.con: Inventory reset in bonus missions
- H'NDRL'G: Fixed parallax sky in 4 ceiling sectors (start area)
- KICKLADN: Added level ending sector (on top of watchtower, sector 32).

Quest for Hussein:
> Inevitable sequel to "Quest for Al-Qa'eda". Another standalone TC which lets you fight hordes of
stereotype Arab enemies in 6 short levels that won't take you longer than 3-5min each. This time
with a boss fight (Hussein, obviously), though. It's something!
> Fixes/changes:
- Standalone release converted into file depending on duke3d.grp (saves filesize)
- Renamed: defs.con/game.con/user.con -> quest2_defs.con/quest2.con/quest2_user.con,
grabbag.mid -> hussein.mid, E1L1-E1L6.map -> HUSSEIN1-6.map,
q4sh.rts -> quest2.rts
- Deleted: arr.voc, avast.voc, barr.voc, bitchn04.voc, death1.wav, death5.wav, drcrk.voc,

- quest2.con: 6 warnings eliminated
- quest2_user.con: Episode definitions added, skill names adjusted, level names added
(Mission 1-6)
- tiles012.art: Typo fixes ("Congradulations") for #3260 (ep.1 ending screen).

If something is missing, contact NightFright and he should update the files asap.

Thanks! The version I uploaded in the Dropbox link has Osama as the main boss at the end of the game. Looks like the version you had was a modification of a pretty old one, I had Osama in there within a few months after release in 2002, but by then there were so many mirrors of the original version and that seems to be what's out there most these days. I'll check out the bug fixes and combine it all when I get a chance. Much appreciated.

TBH I couldn't even tell you where I got the version from I used for the modifications. It'd be great if not too much of it got lost in the re-release. Basically I only edited two of the bonus maps to make them campaogn-friendly, added widescreen support and cleaned up unused files, so nothing too "wild".

A changelog would be appreciated once you're done, so I can integrate it into my readme file(s). Ideally send it to me via PM so I don't forget about it.

Otherwise: Great to see one of the original authors around here again! Thanks a lot for your work and input!
