Duke Nukem IS dead - and we killed him… "It’s true and it’s taken me too long to see it…"
#1 Posted 28 November 2024 - 12:44 AM
I’ve been playing Duke Nukem games since I was 4 years old, betting on Duke all the way to the bitter end. At 8, I was dabbling in countless editors in video games until I reached 12, where my love for Duke 3D would be rekindled by the flames of Mapster32. I’d spent so much time in that editor and frankly I owe my choice in career to that program. The simplicity and complexity of the engine allowed my creativity to flow in ways that even amazed myself.
Though while I was pumping out maps for Duke3D, I was spearheading the multiplayer scene in Duke Nukem Forever, dedicating a lot of my youth to DNF, even starting a YouTube channel where I’d post my glitch findings in DNFs janky, yet exciting multiplayer. In the early 2010s, I trained and learned everything I could about that game and its communities both on Xbox 360 and PC, becoming feared to the point of hackusations. I’m still sitting at a collective 2500+ hours between the two platforms.
It was a lot of fun for me because I had passion for Duke in more ways than one. Getting on each day gave me a sense of purpose in life and it allowed and enabled me to pursue the DNF tournaments towards the early 2020s, which I’m still honored and happy to have had such wonderful turnouts in, even getting Jon St. John to open for a couple of them. Thank you all for your collaboration and support with those events. It truly means the world to me.
Despite it all I’m now sitting here left wondering: why the fuck did I put so much time and attention into this franchise?
The answer was once simple: to boost awareness and recruit new faces to the Duke Nukem community. To show them that the horror stories they’d once heard about this god forsaken community was all just a bad misrepresentation. Too bad things haven’t seemed to change..
One thing I’ve fought tooth and nail against, in recent years, is the statement “Duke is dead.” I believed that as long as the community held strong for Duke, he’d never die, getting into some pretty heated arguments over that debate. However, you win Futuretime23. Duke is dead. You’re absolutely right. But we don’t have Gearbox or 3D Realms to blame, noooo. Ironically the very thing keeping him alive was also killing him at the same time and that’s pretty evident after my recent Discord Timeout.
Had it been a fair penalty, with both parties being timed out, I’d have conceded without contest and even apologized for my behavior, but the ugly nightmares that once plagued this community with circle jerking admins/moderators in the past seems to have not dissipated like I’d hoped. As an older and wiser man, this can not be chalked up as “kid ranting” anymore, as some would so eagerly denounce this as but rather unjust abuse of power by gentlemen who are no less to blame for the travesty of this intellectual property as I am.
This is my final post in this community and any Duke Nukem community for that matter. Duke4 has single-handedly ruined my perception of the community and the franchise as a whole. The cynical, negative, power tripping individuals that run rampant in here are what’s slowly eating it away and while you continue to holler and wine and kick and scream about how there’s no chance of a good Duke game happening, take a good long look in the mirror and give yourself a pat on the back because it’s YOUR fault we won’t get another game.
I’m writing this here because I clearly don’t care what happens to my account on Duke4 anymore. After fighting so hard for the chance to be able to come back, I’m more happy to see this opportunity be taken away again. Fuck the negative Nancy’s who are actively pumping poison and toxicity into this franchise. Let me take a moment to give a nice “fuck you” to the individuals who have basically shown me that I’ve wasted most of my life breathing breath into a community that they were simultaneously tainting and in no particular order:
Fuck you Lunick, fuck you Futuretime23, fuck you Slap McBald, fuck you Meowth, fuck you Green, fuck you slade, fuck you Hendricks, and a nice big happy fuck you to anyone who continues to gas any of these individuals up and give them a platform to act the way they do. Guilty by association.
Duke Nukem is dead. Congratulations. You win and your prize is no new Duke games! Good job! So goodbye Duke4. It was a pleasure to meet some of the polite folks on there but if you’re one of those people, do yourself a favor and join a Duke Nukem community that doesn’t actively spread hate and negativity about the IP or it’s community members. You’ll be better off. Good luck to everyone who is continuing to support the franchise through media and user content. You’re the REAL heroes, not some negative, walking sewage system that attacks people personally cuz he’s bad at an almost 30 year old game.
Good luck everyone, with your murdered franchise. StarNukem signing the fuck out.

The strafe run technique has become more and more critical in the later years of Duke 3D design as most mappers are aware of it and build around it for extra challenge.
Just thought you might wanna know that

I hope you'll find "Acceptance".
ps. just because something is "dead" doesn't mean you can't celebrate it. We all do for various things.

That's right! Just because something is dead, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. Just look into Mexican Sugar Dancing.

Worst fucking community I’ve ever had the misfortune of wasting my life in. I hope we never get a new Duke game because you retards don’t deserve it. Whether you wanna believe it or not, Duke4 is killing Duke Nukem. Regard the picture oasiz posted. You’re all currently in the denial phase. Soon you’ll accept the fact that Randy knows you’re all autistic villains to the IP and has openly stated it, so don’t take it from me. Take it from the dude literally holding your circle jerk icon over your heads.
Now kindly, gag on my cock and go back to stroking Futuretime’s ego.
P.S.: I was gonna leave you out of the “fuck you’s” Doom64Hunter, and I’m still going to. You’re just a speck of sperm on a communal cum sock. So take this as me Straferunning the fuck away from this dog shit community.
Duke Nukem is dead and it’s ironic that you now wanna battle me on that fact when you didn’t wanna support my stand against it before. How hypocritical and retarded.

Enjoy the Duke games for what they are and what they mean to you, not for anyone else.

2024 - Duke Nukem IS dead - and we killed him… <-- you are here
2033 - Gaming is DEAD and it's all your fault...

Someone will eventually realise that Duke could have a future like the Doom franchise. Of course, we will all be dead and buried by that time. At least our great grandchildren might play a new Duke game.

Compassion for what? Do you intend to become an hero over Duke?

Meanwhile, while we do have our bad apples, most of us are just passionate in keeping the Duke flame alive; by creating new content, unveiling new talents, doing something with this IP when it's owners have no clue what to do with it.
Like Tea Monster said, if Randy or anyone else decides to put Duke out for good because of some vocal minority (that has been decreasing over the past few years), that's their call. In the meantime, we will continue to revisit the Duke games, we will continue to make new maps, new TCs, even new games if possible. And as long as we do that, Duke will never die.
HAIL TO THE KING, BABY!

Lmao you try having an argument with these peons. Anything “philosophical” or even remotely ideological would be met with about as much seriousness as a clown at a circus. They’re not capable of reason, compassion or understanding, and this thread serves to prove exactly that. Every post that followed my original has increasingly solidified my argument. Now THERE is your philosophy.

You'll have to create some drama, and then somehow arrange it so that people have to play the map to advance the drama.

We've even got new content coming for three separate Duke games. SixtyFour just released a 6-level map pack for DNF 2011, Restoration Project just announced and teased upcoming content set to be released early next year, I'm working on a christmas themed map pack for Resto, and William Gee just released several awesome maps in the last couple months like this one for example. Furthermore TTK has seen progress for an amazing looking romhack that attempts to smooth out the controls and speed up gameplay, and Zero Hour is nearly totally decompiled.
It's been a good year for Duke Don't let the pessimists get you down brother. I don't think they even mean anything by it honestly.
