Does -gamegrp [file.grp] not work anymore?  "It outputs "Found no recognized game data!""

If I put DUKE3D.GRP in the same folder of EDuke32 then there's no issue.
But if I try to use -gamegrp something\DUKE3D.GRP then it states "Found no recognized game data!".
I've tried both absolute and relative folders.
Can anything be done?

try running eduke32 <path to your .grp file>
for example:

eduke32 c:\games\duke\duke3d.grp
