Indiana Jones not in 3D Polygon from Duke Nukem 3D: High Resolution Pack

#1

I was playing through the Duke Nukem 3D: High Resolution Pack using the Polymost Option for 3D Models, but when I was playing through the Hotel Hell level and found the secret easter egg, Indiana Jones is still in pixelated form. Why is that? Was there not a 3D Polygon of the iconic character anywhere for this High Resolution Pack?

AFAIK nobody has ever made this specific model. It's one of the "lost" ones. As it stands now regarding community activity, chances are rather low it's still going to find its way into the HRP.

He's missing his brown jacket, hope he'll be added over to the High Resolution Pack. Maybe you can give me a download link, he definitely looks great and all!

I think that was rather a joke post. And the work on the HRP has pretty much come to a full stop. Updates at this point seem rather unlikely. In general, people have moved on to vanilla-style projects like voxels and AI-enhanced textures.

Rather than 'moved on' I think the correct term is "backsliding" ;)

Do you think the HRP looks better than the original game?

For my personal taste, the HRP just contains too many different artistic styles and content quality varies quite a lot, which is only natural for a project with so many (former) contributors.

Not gonna talk it down too much - there are people out there who still love it. That's OK. As far as I'm concerned, I've come to appreciate low-res art, not only in Duke3D, but also other old titles such as ROTT, Doom or Quake. Highres packs are nice, but most of the time they kinda change (and for me: ruin) the retro atmosphere. Yet again, I sincerely respect anyone's opinion who says otherwise.

Honestly, for Duke3D, a model pack that uses the Duke3D palette for textures that are limited to 256x256 in size, and styled in the vein of stuff like WRATH, Phantom Fury, or the Quake 1 and 2 remasters where it's low poly yet detailed and faithful to the existing art and late 90s/early 00s aesthetic would work best.

Speaking of that, I wish there was an easy way to convert voxels to usable low-poly models, because the voxel pack is awesome in that regard. I love the voxels but models have significant advantages if you do any kind of modding on them as you know.

Its possible to give a voxelized look to models in Blender.

You do realize the HRP looks actually retro now? 😁
