Bought a Sega CD because, I wanted to, guy said it worked, it didn't, it had this problem where it would start up, boot, spin the motor, but wouldn't read the disc.
Bios/sound is fine.
(I'm using audio cds to test)
So, whatever it was the same price as a for parts listing, so I was like, pay for a new laser and we'll be even.
Got the new laser
(Did not test laser with a scope as I don't own one)
It does the same thing.
Also bought new ribbon cables, because one was obviously damaged. (2 pins being scratched away a sizable amount)
One of the ribbon cables instantly broke upon inserting (the one that needed to be replaced) and am currently getting a refund. And awaiting a replacement.
Is the damaged ribbon cable most likely the cause?
Should I buy a scope to check the laser?
Or is it going to be a mechanism replacement?
In which case I might as well buy a working Sega CD.
Also have been waiting for post Priveleges on sega16 for like a week.
Otherwise I wouldn't be posting here.
Sega CD model 2 4102a
W/ the kss 240a mechanism.

It could be the fuse. I know that is a common problem. My local video game shop replaces them for me.

It powers on fine,
The laser also receives power.

Tested with scope after receiving new ribbon cable.
Housing was a bust.
Going to resell for parts.
