It would help if I had a map with the problem. I could either fix it myself or report back to Helixhorned on the exact nature of the problem.

I have been thinking of trying to make a Eduke32 version of Witchhaven 2. I have the source code, and have made a GRP with all the art tiles and levels. I can even play a little, no actors work yet, or anything at all really, but I can run around and check out the maps.

So your making a port for Witchhaven 2 then? :(

Not exactly, first of all I really need to improve my code skills. But it is a thought, and I have done some work to get where I am now. But no I am not officially announcing that I am making a port. Just sharing my days work (like 2 hours), and seeing if there is much interest.

I've always seen the Witchaven games as a potential source of ripped art (we have a substantial amount of it in WGR2), but I didn't know that anyone liked to play them. From what I've heard, they aren't very good.

I recognized a few tiles from working with WGR. And ya, the levels really sucked :( , but the gameplay wasn't terrible, it has some possible potential.

Well, the game isn't really that bad, but the levels are just horrible.

Time wasting is a delicate subject...on the one hand, we want people to refrain from working on dead-end projects, but on the other hand we don't want them to consider their priorities too carefully and then stop modding altogether as a result.

If we have the source, I can't see any benefit from remaking Witchaven in EDuke32, especially since from what I'm reading it's not that good.

I would play it. But the fact that you want do a project only depending on who would play it is wrong in my eyes. If you want to make something, you do it no matter how little people is going to enjoy it.

There's a bit of truth to that, but Hollywood ain't makin' movies just 'cause they feel like it.

This isn't hollywood. I mod because i feel like that's what i should do. And remember that having a project like this also improve your abilities with modding, so maybe if he want to do a project that people will enjoy in the future, there is a better chance that people will enjoy it now that he has this experience.

Ramsus has the idea of it. I have some BIG ideas when it comes to the future of my modding. Right now I am not able to do the TC I want to because I don't understand C or CON code very well. This witchhaven crap is more of a learning tool for me than a desire to play the game. I can play it DOS-BOX. The gameplay is completely different from Duke. The main character gains exp. points, level ups, and learns spells. RPG stuff that is similar to my early rough ideas for a unique TC.
The main reason I chose Witchhaven is because it hasn't been done yet, for good reason I assume, but still should I have tried SW or BLOOD, they've been done by people better than me. Not that this is going anywhere far, just me playing CON code god over Grondoval. And learning (which is never a waste of time :( )

Not sure if I'll finish it/make anything useful with it but I was bored and decided to dick around and started working on this:

Yep, it's a top down scrolling shooter.

I used to love that type of shooter back in the day. It should be pretty easy to get a simple prototype working with only one type of enemy and one type of gun to start with.

Yep. 90% of the way there. I just haven't programmed an enemy or obstacle of any kind yet.

That looks really nice. The fog transitions could maybe be smoother but the architecture is really neat. I like the dramatic shadows on the lower left.

cheers , DT has does some nice SE stuff with vis controlling so i should be able to tweak the fog to perfection when iam done with the map, this will be strictly polymer only, its mostly dark shades, the fog makes seeing anything in polymost impossible, and it would shit its pants at all the RoR i used.

I think you may have gotten the wrong idea about that but it sounds good so I shouldn't argue. :(

Quick update:
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Just have to get around to replacing the rest of the Duke textures and then add sounds. Sound will probably be the most time consuming bit. I'm trying to work the project into a stand-alone so all you need to do is unzip the files and drop in EDuke32.

I've started a new map from scratch in the hi-tech facility genre. It's got a big enough layout to sustain a few minutes of gameplay due to its relative non-linearity.

I still can't shake the idea of porting Witchaven to Eduke. This video didn't help. Maybe all it needed was polymer lighting :(

Come on, do it! And i'm gonna post more some pictures of the first indoor section of my mod.

yeh polymer would perfectly compliment witchcraft, assuming you give it crappy gameplay to balance it out, the game always looked nice but the gameplay was sickening
