The Beheaded Kamikaze is an enemy from Serious Sam. A couple of guys in the Doom community made a version of the enemy for Doom mods. Serious Sam was a fun Duke Nukem knockoff. WGR2 is a Duke Nukem TC that uses a lot of sprites from Doom and Doom mods, and has Serious Sam style gameplay at times. So you see, it all comes together in an incestious circle.

Fernito, who has released quality maps for both Duke 3D and Doom, made a great video walkthrough of Doom 2 from beginning to end:
If you ever want to get familiar with the game without actually playing it, you could do a lot worse than watching that. It's long, though.

I've tried doom. I somehow have a disk that's labelled the doom collector's edition with doom 1, doom 2, and a few other official looking doom wads. Probably got it free with something about 10 years ago. The game just didn't appeal to me; it was kinda fun in short bursts, but all the levels looked very samish with not much variety in textures as far I could see. I finished episode 1 of doom 1 and the first level of doom 2 but that's about it. That's why I like Duke so much more, great personality and attitude, and a huge variety of levels that tend of have their own theme, so they're all different.
Edit: and the same for Quake 1. Duke is better in every way except for not having a fully 3D engine, which is largely a moot point now with TROR and polymer.

That's true, I enjoy the setting and style but it was just too dull and dragged on too much. The different characters with different weapons was a cool idea in theory but making them have to use 4 weapons spread throughout the WHOLE game was a huge mistake. I'm not saying Doom was about the guns but the progression in power was enough to keep things going. In Hexen you get the 2nd weapon in the 2nd level and then have to wait AGES till the next one. They should of kept some Heretic weapons and have the character unique ones as well.

I agree. I think Doom has a more interesting variety of monsters with better monster design overall. But Duke has more sophisticated level design.
However, Doom level design, because it is less capable of realism, tends to be based more around gameplay. Since it is impossible to create realistic environments, level designers focus on gameplay and come up with more abstract but interesting tactical situations.

Your test map built with Lebuild is interesting. The slopes terminate and then they go straight up and down (there is a wall right up against the slope), so the boulders can't leave the bowl. They actually bounce to the other side. I'll be finishing this up tomorrow.

Oh.
my.
god.
I so want to play this.
Now how about something like a gravity gun like in Half Life 2?
You could grab the boulders and drop them on enemies...

Yeah, rolling objects would go great with a gravity gun, but right now I'm focused on WGR2. At some later point I will add the rolling physics to some objects in DukePlus, which already has a gravity gun of course.

Micky C - You have to get your hands on a copy of Doom. It's worth it just for the shotgun.

Heh, I think the Unreal graphics might be a tad better. Physics, too.
But basing an entire game around playing with your ball = fail imo I think after about ten minutes you would be like, "I want my fucking shotgun!"
