People who think early rock was the first act of "dumbing down" music seriously need to get off their high horse. It's just blues but with electric guitar and drums. And the former instrument wasn't a conscious music decision but a constraint, since there was no way to amplify acoustics at the time.

Lmao you're talking about hippies but the best bands around that time were British anyway.

Some of these rockers were virtuosos for their time. Even the highfalutin Wynton Marsalis will share a stage with Eric Clapton. Show me a blues drummer with half the groove of Bonzo and I'll take back my words.

Nowhere am I denying the talent. Morrison for example was inhumanly talented at owning a stage. Daddy was still part of the Gulf of Tonkin "incident".

The goal wasn't dumbing down of the music, but the audience. There's still very cool musical things happening in cotton candy pop today but the effect on the audience remains.

Consider looking at history where music, especially pop, is a military weapon.

Then re-evaluate the 80's.

No complete opposite. The 80's was the ultimate refinement with the introduction and spread of MTV.

80's pop is raw vicious cultural violence.

These screenshots were taken from a map called cWAVE_3. It was made by the CFC clan back in the 90s, which stands for "Crusaders For Christ". Somehow my DM folder ended up with about a dozen maps from them, which consists only of maps transferred to me through the clients.

Their old website is still viewable through Web Archive. Surprisingly, their map pack is still downloadable. IMO It's cool that this little piece of Duke history was preserved.

I've been patiently watching the many of you lovely folk catch up to my 9/11/2001 coming out of surgery self... after missing the whole day under anesthesia... realizing the whole world had gone LUNATIC believing obvious nonsense. I mean when Silverstein announced that Epstein pulled it himself I knew we were in for a rough couple decades of GOP pantomime.

Whats funny is I have a nearly opposite experience. I was in third grade at the time, eight years old. I'm one of the few people in my age group who have a real tangible memory of 9/11. Most people I talk to don't really remember it, they kinda remember the invasion of Afghanistan, shit like that. But 9/11 is barely a memory to them. I find this curious. Anyway, I was in school. I had gone in early for some reason, but didn't have money for breakfast in the cafeteria so I just stayed in class and read a book (The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe oddly enough, I think Olga knows where I'm going with that) while the janitor was mopping and watching the news. I heard her gasp and stop mopping, and I looked up to see the first attack. Fifteen minutes later my dad was picking me up from school. From that point on I spent the rest of the day with my eldest brother and my dad glued to the television. I didn't understand it then, but I knew it was important.

The most important event of my lifetime and this timeline. Perhaps I've been paranoid ever since.

You know I actually don't have a problem with this. Kanye could be a great witness to his hip-hop friends in his elite circle. What I'm talking about though are Christians who think we should elevate Kanye to a position of global spokesmanship within Christianity. This in my opinion is foolish, and frankly hypocritical especially coming from Protestant Christians. I don't want Kanye to be a spokesman for Christians any more than I want the Pope to be a spokesman. There are no spokesmen, just witnesses who should proclaim the Gospel at every level of society.

I agree. We should give Kanye a chance though. We cannot turn our backs on our brothers while they may be doing God's work. I'll support him as long as he stays on the up and up. He's making me proud. I hope he does a Sunday Service somewhere near me, my second eldest brother and I are hitting the road.

All this talk about hip-hop got me into researching modern rap again. I always hear that rap is in its absolute darkest age today. People love Kanye because he actually innovated within the genre. Before Kanye, all the top rappers had that gangster image.

Not all of them, but it was really hard to break from that programming. Record companies and the rest of the industry are in on it. When Kanye released Jesus Walks he knew no one would play that single, and Jesus is King is doubling down on that. Kanye's biggest influence is Mase, who threw away his gangsta rap career for a career as an evangelical preacher. I hope he starts rapping again, he did a comeback like fifteen years ago that was nice. You can really hear Mase's rap style on Kanye's records. Gangsta rap is fun, but I prefer motherfuckers that is smooth.

The culture rot formally took root round abouts this decade. Make no mistake... I love Green Onions.

But I also make no mistake... Green Onions is no Pachelbel's Canon. Which is also a mere shadow of divinity.

Except Green Onions is better than Pachelbel's Canon. American music is the GREATEST music that has ever been produced upon this planet. Nothing even comes close.

Elwood Blues pontificates in-leu of lyrics upon the very track itself. Honestly, some of the greatest and most beautiful words ever spoken and I truly feel that Dan Aykroyd meant this.

"Alright people, the rest of the hard working all star Blues Brothers are gonna be out here in a minute, including my little brother Jake. But right now, I'd like to talk a little bit about this tune you're hearing. This is, of course, the Green Onions tune. It was a very, very big hit in the early sixties in this country. And of course it was composed and recorded in Memphis, Tennessee, right here in the United States of America. You know, people, I believe that this tune can be acquainted with the great classical music around the world. Now you go to Germany, you've got your Bach, your Beethoven, your Brahms... Here in America you've got your Fred McDowell, your Irving Berlin, your Glenn Miller, and your Booker T & The MG's, people. Another example of the great contributions in music and culture that this country has made around the world. And as you look around the round world today, you see this country spurned. You see backs turned on this country. Well people, I'm gonna tell you something, this continent, North America, is the stronghold! This is where we're gonna make our stand in this decade! Yeah, people, I've got something to say to the State Department. I say, take that archaic Monroe Doctrine, and that Marshall Plan that says we're supposed to police force the world, and throw'em out! Let's stay home for the next ten years people! Stay right here in North America and enjoy the music and culture that is ours! Yeah, I got one more thing to say. I'm just talking about the music, people, and what it does to me. And that is, as you look around the round world, you go to the Soviet Union or Great Britain or France, you name any country... Everybody is doing flips and twists just to get into a genuine pair of American blue jeans! And to hear this music, and we've got it all here, in America, the land of the Chrysler 440 cubic inch engine!"

This shit was written in 1962, and its a fucking Misfits song.

Try not to dance to this Boomer classic.

This song is basically "Talk shit about America and I'm gonna kick your ass."

Okay that last one was recorded December 23rd 1969 fuck you. The 70s were a great time for Soul, Surf, Country, and introduced us to two more of the most amazing genres of music, unique to America, Funk and Punk Rock. This country is the fucking greatest.

Led Zeppelin is satanic buttrock. Bonham is session musician tier. No name soul drummers would kick his ass. Soul drummers were literally the foundation of an entire genre of music when sampled by rappers in the beginnings of hip-hop because they had no access to instruments. James Brown's Funky Drummer includes what was at the time just a throwaway drum line improvised by Clyde Stubblefield, and literally inspired funk and has been used so many times in hip-hop samples that people have lost count. It's the most sampled drum line ever.

Green Onions, as recorded here is absolute perfection. I agree it is Americana Perfectomundo. You cannot improve on it, you can only call back to it, love it, and mimic it, as Elwood so eloquently elucidates.

Pachelbel's Canon though... is one of the most pure pieces of divine light put to rhythm. It is infinitely malleable into every genre. Its base form is so subtly simple and unassuming, yet can overwhelm an entire performance with little effort. Even when being re-purposed for Satan's kingdom. Butt Biscuits.

You know this is one of the reasons why I don't listen to rap much. All their beats are sampled and I'm always compelled to find the original sources. I usually end up liking the original songs more than the derived work. Even Jesus is King introduced me to some great new music:

Man you're saying this but you listen to satanic bands like Iron Maiden.

I wouldn't classify Iron Maiden as satanic. Are you referring to Number of the Beast, specifically? If you read the lyrics it's basically a narrative about someone becoming accidentally involved with Satanism, and is a warning against the devil. The writer of the song Steve Harris had the idea for the song after having a nightmare after he watched Damien: The Omen 2. Their drummer Nicko is openly Christian and tries to evangelize as much as possible, and he has has talked about this accusation against them many times over the years, but more recently;

Quote

"[God] does not have a problem with it," Nicko explained. "Obviously, I'm still doing it. I kind of struggled with the idea earlier on when I first found my faith, and I put it in prayer, and I haven't had a problem with it," he continued. "You know, the old adage is, 'The greatest trick the devil ever played on us is making us think he doesn't exist,' and we all know he does."

A few years ago, McBrain spoke to Canada.com about how his faith allows him to play songs like "The Number Of The Beast", with lyrics like "666, the one for you and me." McBrain reasoned: "It's a story. If you look in the Book of Revelation, it tells you about all that, all that grief, all that business. And that, by the way, was a song written from a nightmare that [IRON MAIDEN bassist/chief songwriter] Steve [Harris] had.

"I can tap people on the shoulder and say, 'I'm not glorifying him [the devil]'; if I was, then I wouldn't be Christian. Because I understand, and most Christian people understand, that sin is the Devil's domain, and the ultimate sin is death, but we have a way up, and that's where your faith and your Christianity comes into play. Sometimes I've had an opportunity to talk to people about my faith, and what I feel, and maybe that's the way the good Lord's working with me."

He continued: "To still be able to be in such a great band, where people think we're demonic or Satanic, most people that know and have a modicum of sense and intelligence know that not to be true. It doesn't take an Einstein to listen to the records and listen to the lyrics of the songs to know what's going on.

"But people can look at that and say, 'Wait a minute, Nick. How can you say you're a Christian [when] you're playing in a band that's got this kind of stuff going on?'"

Nicko went on to say: "But when you become a Christian, you don't become sinless, the idea is to sin less. We're all sinners, we're never going to be clean 'till the day the good Lord is standing in front and judgment comes, but to me, I try to live my life, I do fall off, and occasionally I fall off hard and I have to get down on my knees and beg forgiveness, so it's not an easy ride, and it's not professed to be either."

The Jehovah's Witness take on world music

https://wol.jw.org/e...r1/lp-e/1983763
There is a wide variety of Scripturally acceptable and upbuilding music, including delightful Kingdom songs enjoyed by Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide. So we are not missing anything worthwhile by rejecting music that debases. By a regular study of the Bible and related Christian publications, may we train our perceptive powers to distinguish between right and wrong. Then let us cling to what is right. If any music conflicts with God’s righteous standards, reject it.

Which means anything from Bach to Rihanna

I remember my sis burning albums from Elton John, because he was gay, and I forgot what was the issue with the Beatles. For some reason, my Black Sabbath albums survived the purge, in the 70's, by the Elders of this fine and deeply religious group; along Genesis, Deep Purple, Ping Floyd and so on. - Some of them are worth a small fortune now.

Depends on the definition of cult.

https://www.jw.org/e...tnesses-a-cult/
Their main focus is to enter the Kingdom of God, by following the Bible to the last dot. What are a few songs compared to everlasting life in paradise? Why associate with the devil’s kind, risk sinning, and be dead forever?

p.s. I did believe for decades, in this and other versions of God. Who am I do look down on them, now?

LMAO. That's like giving me a link to a Scientologist website. They are a home of false teachings, and what's more they seek absolute control over their members. It is absolutely a cult by any definition of the word. They don't even follow the Bible to the last dot, they wrote their own Bible.
