Eduke Nvida 8500 GT openGL not supported
#1 Posted 30 May 2009 - 04:23 AM
I cannot wait that polymer is out, we are already arranging to gather our LAN again when this happens.
I download Eduke (latest) and HRP (latest + update) but when I start the "OPENGL not supported" error surfaces.
I have Nvidia 8500 GT video card. I tryed forcegl but everything hangs and Visual Studio debugger opens (I have VS installed).
Any hints?

something is wrong with your installed drivers
nvidia drivers are universal for all GPUs, thus if it works for me it should work for you.
And this topic was posted in wrong section. The correct is:

unpack the opengl32.rar that I posted above to where eduke32.exe is
The nvoglnt.dll from 185.85 has the following hashes:
MD5: 4C78489A4E8BEA29477C871E0CE3815C
SHA1: 956755B4F5311F60907334F877A06508BCAB48F1
The files is located in c:\windows\system32
Install Hashtab if you want to check the hashes:
http://beeblebrox.org/hashtab/
The latest Windows XP driver can be downloaded from:
(English only)

It's not that hard to just make a small essential backups archive and send it to a friend or burn a DVD. that's what I've been doing so I can get this all situated.
Also, this won't just affect Duke. it's going to affect ANY program running OpenGL, so you literally have HALF your rendering crippled. You can check yourself, just download GPU Caps Viewer and it'll turn out the 1.1 OpenGL issue as well.

- I have SP3 already (as you can see from the log)
- I download the opengl dll posted here and put in duke launch folder, no results
- I purchased driver cleaner (yes I really did it.. Duke for me is worth every effort even 10 formats) and cleaned video drivers
- I re-installed new nvidia drivers (185.85), I installed hashtab and checked the hash of nvoglnt.dll and I have the same values
Nothing changed
I have this doubt... I changed video card some months ago and I was noob enough to remove the old card, put he new one (always NVidia but other series) without first uninstalling the previous. This means that when windows loads I have to wait about 4-5 minutes because if goes in some kind of error-loop looking for missing video drivers.
Could this be involved somehow? Any hint for a fix before going to reformat?
#13 Posted 31 May 2009 - 05:46 AM
I assumed you have the latest Direct X. If not I highly recommend to download the redist install pack (full pack) and not the online installer.
Also download and install OpenAL from:

NO change
I have latest directx9.0c on windows XP tryed to update I have the latest version already.
I'm now downloading a directx10 version for xp...
Cleaner removed all unused drivers but windows is still slow on reboot so I guess it checks for the old drivers.. maybe this causes some issue even if I don't understand why.
I have no problems with all other games, is very odd..
EDIT: no luck with directx10 for XP as well
If I don't solve, when polymer comes out I will reformat and/or change video card

normally you should already have glmf32.dll (it maybe hidden file)

This I'm guessing might be one of them. it's hard to say if it's that or just the Windows install slowly corrupted itself.
#21 Posted 01 June 2009 - 02:41 AM
I'm receiving an odd message trying to install GLDirect: "Old or missing DirectX drivers".... requires Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or later. In order to use .... you will need to update your version of directX"
I have directX 9.0c maybe the issue is caused by the install of DirectX10 (XP) ... try to unistall them... I think this is my last attempt.
The other explanation is corrupted window somehow (I never used daemon tools) odd thing other games run smooth but maybe they don't rely on openGL
#22 Posted 01 June 2009 - 04:01 AM
Download the latest official DirectX 9.0c March 2009 from:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enh...ributable.shtml
And reinstall it
#23 Posted 01 June 2009 - 04:26 AM
Anyway dx10 has no uninstaller (not even in Windows Application Manager).
I installed again the dx0.9c but nothing changed. I think the system is too much messed up right now.
I will go for a re-format as soon as a public polymer version is out. Any ETA?
#24 Posted 01 June 2009 - 04:48 AM
In the comments of that page there is info about an uninstaller and how to manually uninstall DX10
NOT TESTED

Now I know I will get flak over this, but I find that reformatting at least once a year to be good practice.
