Special Sprites Vs Small Doorway Sectors  "Resizing Special Sprites"

Ok,let me see how I can explain this and just maybe someone else on here has gone through this little dilemma as well.

Well,I made a doorway,Ok and I've used the 3 of the Special Sprites, SE (sprite#1) Music & SFX (Sprite#5) and GS SPEED (sprite#10)

Now,not the length but the width of the door is quite narrow and after I've placed the sprites I've noticed that if I'm out in the
hallway and head in the direction of the door I can see both the SE sprite and the GS SPEED sprite sticking out of the wall.

So what I tryed after was replacing the 3 sprites but this time and before I even set any TAGS I resized each of the 3 sprites,
(I made them smaller) so that when they rotate on the door's ledge and I view them from the hallway due to their new size, when
they rotate they won't bleed through the hallway wall but...everytime I shrink them and try the map out,the door won't open!?

What's strange too, (sidenote) in the process of all of this is that from the 2D Grid let's say I created The SE Sprite outside the red
sector (the door) and if I go to drag the sprite inside the sector where I want it,this red sector (the door) won't allow me to drag it inside so I
then have to create the sprite inside the red sector (the door) itself,I couldn't just drag the sprite inside
this red sector (the door)!?

Alright so now here's the second weird half of this situation,

After I create the sprite inside the red sector and after I go into 3D Mode I can see the sprite in question protruding
out of the ceiling inside the room so then of course I pull it down from the inside of the ceiling so that I can see it
more, then i hit the V-Key and change it to either one of the Special Sprites I mentioned above but then when I
go back into 3D Mode......Interesting??? I can't see the Sprite!? resting on top of the door!? It's, not until I go
back into 2D and drag the 3 sprites closer to the edge of the door then go back into 3D,

Ahhhhhhh!!!! now you can visually see them!

Strange?...you would think that any sprite that was placed anywhere inside that doors sector would be plainly visible from
inside the room because that's the sector the door predominantly resides in and yet the engine won't allow
you to view it?

And yet if you want them to become visible like i just previously mentioned, you have to go back into 2D mode
and drag them to the edge then go back into 3D mode and WA! LA! there they sit!

But then after I resize them,"make them smaller" then try the map out,now the doors won't open!?
I don't get it?

Now I know someone is going to say,why don't you try to resize them inside the doors sector
itself?

Yeah,I've tried that and it's a nightmare working in an area that small, you keep getting
bounced all over the place!? But I may end up having to try this method once again
unless someone else comes up with a better method?

Also too, I noted as well that each of the sprites pointers are still the same length after you shrink each of the sprites,
I don't know maybe you just can't resize these sprites?

Just Askin,

Thanks!

Why do you care that they stick out of the wall? they won't activate anything outside of the sector they are placed at (the tiny dot in the middle, not the texture)

Bah who am I kidding? I didn't understand what you meant

Why do I care that they stick out of the wall?

Because it would obviously be distracting to the player and
besides it would look like shit and personally for the amount
of time I'm putting into my maps I'd like them to come out
halfway decent.

The functionality, appearance and purpose of the special sprites work just fine. I haven't experienced any problems shrinking these sprites down to a small size and working with them. In fact sometimes you need small sprites. Your maps will turn out just fine regardless if you can see the special sprites in squished sector or not. Just make sure that when you place the special sprites that they don't go into the floor or ceiling. They have to be physically in the sector you want them to function in not above or below unless using an SE 31 or 32. I usually lock my mouse on the special sprites and press CTRL + PGDN or PGUP just to ensure they are positioned properly in the intended sector.

Can you tell us what type of door you are working with? is it a drop down door, swinging door or does it raise up from the floor? Typically the thing that will determine whether the door will work will be the sector lowtag. Has nothing to do with the Special Sprites unless you are making a door using an SE 1 with a low tag of 31 or 32. Then you would want to make sure that the angle of the SE is set properly.

Make sure you are using the latest version of Eduke/Mapster as well as problems have been addressed with doors and TROR if you're using those features together.

Yeah,I double checked and the sprites don't show ingame,Thanks!

That locking the mouse and pressing CTRL + PGDN or PGUP technique,I'll have to remember that...Thanks again.

Bty for the time being I'm using an old Compaq to create the maps on with windows 98 installed,
The soundcard crapped out on my Dell a few months ago and I haven't gotten around to getting
a new one yet,soon as I get a job,new/real job = $ = new soundcard.

In a non-related story though,in the process of trying to fix my soundcard I screwed up the BIOS and had
to dump the internet,

Strange,I could get sound from the speakers when doing the Dell Troubleshooting test,"Stereo, beep! beep! sound thing you know".
But when you pulled up the soundboard controls,Master Vol. / Wav all that, the sound for example would play ok for a few minutes
then the wave control would hit rockbottom!? It coulda been a virus but none detected, the Dell was pretty old for a comp too though,
2005 Dimension Model.I know one thing,if I ever get a new Desktop,Laptop whatever again....I'll never milk a computer for all
it's worth ever again.My new thinking is,get a new comp about...every 3 years MAX!

The Dell bty was/is runnin on XP and I had to get the disc off of a friend just to get the comp running again and getting that
disc took a while to get but what was even more interesting though was after I rebooted the Dell of course there was very
little on the hardisk unlike before when there was a lot on the comp including the modem files, that really took up a lot of
RAM! So ok getting back to what I said earlier about the comp now being empty pretty much, before I had a problem
running HRP with all the crap I had on the comp but if I run the Dell now,the mods run fast and flawless! and bty
I had over 2 gigs of Ram on that crate! I think what was eating up most of the ram was the modem files, plus
Windows would have multiple programs of the same thing running at the same time,BIOS programs that
you couldn't just turn off,so I had to leave them on.Anyhow this problems resolved,

Thanks for reading!
