OpenGL driver help needed  "GT6600 OK, GT9600 sucks"

Today I've tried to replace my ASUS N6600 graphics card with a Gainward GT9600 Green.

I uninstalled the NVIDIA driver (190.38), changed the graphics cards, re-installed the driver and rebooted.

However, Eduke32 tells me "Unsupported OpenGL Driver".

This happens with both the 20090313 snapshot and self-compiled svn1488.

Trying 186.18 driver does not help either.

Using -forcegl crashes the game but at least leaves some information in the log:

OpenGL Information:
Version: 1.1.0
Vendor: Microsoft Corporation
Renderer: GDI Generic
Your OpenGL implementation doesn't support detail mapping. Disabling...
Your OpenGL implementation doesn't support glow mapping. Disabling...

Changing back to GT6600 and everything is OK again.
Changing forth to GT9600 : "Unsupported OpenGL Driver"

Other games: Shadows Warrior works, but is terribly slow. Quake2 and Unreal seem OK.

Any ideas what goes wrong here?

You need to run something like Driver Sweeper 2 to nuke the previous drivers and completely reinstall the driver for your current card. Something has the GL ICD used by Windows mixed up and it's using Microsoft's default dll, which is not what you want at all. As it stands your GL support is broken in every game right now.

Thanks for the tip. Driver Sweeper could not remove all files, so I booted into Linux to remove the rest that were identified by DS2. Unfortunately the problem persists. I have tried 190.56beta also, but no improvement. Guess I'll have to send back that damned device. (By the way - although Gainward calls it 'Green Edition', CPUZ and GPU-Z report a 65nm chip, not the 55nm 94b version.)

VERY strange. You try manually installing the driver through device manager? You might also try opening a command prompt, typing "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1" followed by "devmgmt.msc". From there, you can choose "show hidden devices" or something from one of the menus and see all of the hardware that has been used with that Windows installation... you could try removing any old video card related entries. Beyond that, I don't think there's anything wrong with your hardware, I think this is purely a driver/Windows issue.

Yup, you were right. It wasn't a Gainward issue, but an ASUS+LeoD one. After some extensive googling I've found and removed some remnants of the 'ASUS Enhanced Driver' which had blocked correct OpenGL installation. I would have thought that those belonged to my motherboard anyway. Thanks again for your support. One more question : it seems to me that loading textures for the first time takes somewhat longer than with the 6600 card. Is that possible?
