Trapped in Toxic Dump!  "Map problem?"

I've just started replaying Duke 3D with eDuke and the HRP - what a transformation!

Only problem is that I'm in the Toxic Dump and the map isn't behaving as in the original game.

I'm at the part where you get lifted up by the crane and taken to an alcove on the far wall. So far so good - I reach the alcove then go along the short conveyor belt to the other alcove. The crane on that side is then supposed to pick you up to take you down the other end. However, it doesn't come. Turns out it is embedded in the ceiling next to the track, and doesn't move.

Has maphack somehow not worked? Any ideas?

Thanks!

From my observations, cranes tend to glitch up, as I've met similar situation in Derelict.

Those cranes become stuck if a monster is standing somewhere on their way.

You dont need to go back in your save games though, the map is still 100% passable.
You know that room with flickering lights that automatically opens when you walk near the redkeycard access? That room with some pigcops inside and one scuba, from there you can strafe jump to where the crane would lift you to.

you can also make yourself small enough to actually crouch into the hole without shrinking yourself. the thing you get with that crane is a key card which opens a sector to a shrinker beam. but i suggest also jumping from where the pigcops spawn. try and strafe jump too if you need more speed.

In that alcove there must be a barrel that start moving in the conveyor belt as soon as you see it. The crane should pick it up first to remove the tripwire above.

Heh, any bugs specific to the crane that you may encounter have probably been around since the original DOS version. The code for the various sector effects and stuff like cranes is the one area where I haven't completely assraped the Duke source.

tx did you by any chance fix a bug where you couldnt see walls far away. it showed the background instead of the wall. it probably wasnt a bug but seriously annoying hehe. did that have anything to do with an eduke update?

If this is something that only happens in Polymer then that is the draw distance, all modern games have a draw distance of some sort.
But you have not really explained very well or given any examples so it's to hard to tell what you are meaning to be honest.

You can also just DNCLIP to wherever you need to get. 3D Realms added those cheats as a failsafe for glitches, as well as just being fun.

then there's the jump-crouch glitch which you can use to bypass the need for the red access card.
