Man, it's so frustrating getting these little glimpses of that build. Who posted them? Who has it? CAN I HAVE IT?

This person doesn't have the builds I'm sure. Just someone who has Fred's stream footage and obviously gets a major bonk on from cockteasing people with half yearly 2 second gifs. For the love of god, can someone please with the full footage just upload it and stop this bullshit so we can all move on. Even if we don't get to play the 2001 build I'd love to just see a good chunk of gameplay.

Well, somebody pointed out that many of the screenshots and .gifs were of far higher quality than what could've been found on recorded snippets from Fred's stream. Hm.

I've been finding resolution and fps upscale work to be quite a soulless exercise. Some things are limited by the technology of their time, and that's the essence of their charm.

Personally I don't see the point of up-scaling when pretty much every video player since 1992 has had a 'Full Screen' option and most VGA cards since shortly afterwards even had acceleration for it. All you're doing by scaling it in advance is adding another pointless stage.

Anyway, fuck the 2001 build. 1998 all the way.

And I don't think you understand that I understand that it's pointless. In most cases it actually looks worse than just plain pixel doubling, blending and interpolation. One may as well just apply some random filter and call it an improvement.

Just....no. AI upscaling is frequently not used properly or in the most efficient way possible but when it's used effectively to its strengths it works. And far more effectively than just a "filter." See the Sierra upscales I did in the non-Duke ESRGAN thread.

Check the weapons showcase and the gas clouds being ignited, and the RPGs explosions would have been insane back in the day.
