Someone used borefest to describe PG-13 video-game movies. They (not I) also suggested that if it could get into the R rated realm, it might be better. I quipped that the vs. alien could be an R rated "boobfest" instead of a "borefest".

I don't see how Dr. Proton would be boring. He's an actual character with personally. All the aliens do is growl and get shot.

Proton may be more than a growling alien but the mad scientist trope itself is very old at this point.

Sure, but Star Wars is also the biggest entertainment property in the world, and the new trilogy and spin-offs are backed by one of the most powerful media conglomerates ever, Disney, who can put all their muscle behind their various controlled subsidiaries to create a near-unprecedented level of awareness for an already beloved, multi-generational brand. Yeah but at least there's a funny twist there because in Duke the aliens come to take away and impregnate our women, you can have fun with that. Proton is just a crazy dude who builds robots.

Overall maybe combining the two would be a better idea: the aliens are faceless monsters without character so a human antagonist could be able to solve that issue. Let's say Proton is nothing more than a power hungry, incompetent scientist who somehow makes first contact with the aliens by one of his crazy experiments going wrong. The aliens promise him that he will be Earth's leader if he collaborates and helps them in invading the planet and achieving their goal.

Remember, before The Birth, the aliens only took our women to lure Duke away from Earth. That could make for an interesting plot twist.

Maybe set Proton up as someone Duke faced years ago and "killed", then allied with the aliens to take Duke down, so he told them that Duke has a soft spot for women, and they let him take the babes to lure Duke to him, meanwhile they're double crossing Proton while he's also planning on double crossing them.

I believe he's talking about Episode 1: A New Hope. It was before my time, but I believe the actors were predominantly known before then. The points in my post stand.

Actually, George did have a thing about using unknown actors for his leads. Harrison at the time was only in American Graffiti, of things that were of note anyway. This is why he was so resistant to using Harrison for Indiana Jones because he would have used him 3 times. Mark Hamill was fairly small time. Carrie Fisher was probably more well known, but she was in an acting family. Course, I wasn't there then either, but that's what I hear.

I meant in the original 3 episodes, before they made The Birth, that was their plan, I can't remember where I read that, if I can find it, I'll post it, but it wasn't until they made The Birth that they were impregnating them. I'm not assuming this, this comes from somewhere, let me wake up and I'll see if I can find it... If not, maybe it was something that I read years ago that isn't true, I used to read everything I could about Duke.

It was something I read a while back, and it seems to have vanished... I'm guessing it wasn't true, and I just took it to heart because I was young and naive... plus it kinda makes sense, since it's hard to impregnate babes when they still have their panties on. Either way though, could make for an interesting plot point in a movie.

If they do a grocery store scene in the movie, they should make it somewhat similar to this, but with aliens. Have Duke playing mind games on the aliens and confusing them. I think it could be entertaining.

They did this with the first one too. They didn't finish a full script before trying to put the deal together and it fell through. I'm not sure how far Scott Faye got before things fell apart, but I know the general framework for it was a shit show.

They really need to finish a script before they start talking about making a movie. No script, no foundation, and thus no point.

While you're right, this is how Hollywood works these days for most blockbuster type movies it seems. Star Wars episode 9 doesn't even have a script yet, JJ was talking about how he'll figure it out etc. Where as "spec scripts", cool scripts that get buzz for being good, end up getting made on their own merits.

That said, writing seems like it can be pretty quick at times, a few months etc, so hopefully they get somebody on board who gets it.

I'm still optimisticly looking forward to it, it'll be cool to see a Duke Nukem movie hit theaters. Just indeed, hopefully they do it right, and it's not another Max Payne movie type deal.

On Jon St John, I know he tweeted an opinion on this movie, but hey I say give him a cameo role. That would be fun, and is usually the go-to move for this kind of situation. Playing a radio DJ or something holed up somewhere in one scene.

Star Wars is a major franchise wherein they already have dozens of speculative scripts submitted, story ideas on the table, and a team of writers alraedy assembled to formulate not only the main series but the spin offs.

Duke Nukem, outside of the games, is not an established franchise. Not having the script written before trying to generate hype has cause this particular film franchise to crash and burn three times prior to this.
