Shadow Warrior betas released!

Devolver has updated the free Shadow Warrior version on Steam to also include two beta versions, one seems quite old and has the older ninja sprite and all different levels from what I can tell and is something I've never seen playable before.

The new version of the game kept much of the flavor of the original, but without the Asian angle of the protagonist.

So it's finally happened.... Thanks to everyone involved!

What are the major differences between final to beta and beta to alpha?

Where did they release betas? For SW 2013 or Redux?

This is amazing. Digging through the 1996 beta in SWPBuild, there are TONS of maps which look amazing, like almost final as is, and which are either non existant in the final game or completely different.

!mine.map, !flood.map, !prison.map are what caught my eyes the most so far

What's the plot of the 1996 one, if it had any?

Wait til Robman sees it... that should make him happy.

Huge hint: don't screw around too much with screen size settings in alpha, or you'll lose both statusbar, and menu graphics!

1997 version is the one you can find on Hendriks website. I just put it, because some people still don't know it exists...

Beta is even worse, sprites keeps flashing sometimes, and sometimes the whole screen just fucked up or just freeze and lockout... not sure if DOSBox problem or something.

Oh hey, you can vomit when you die in the 1996 version. Neat!

I think its awesome they released old builds of the game. I played a bit of the 1997 beta. They had the duke mighty foot asset in the game at that time. I'm glad they removed it, it feels clunky. Looking forward to playing more when I get home.

Oh happy day, new SW toys! :(

Looks like Frederik Schreiber of 3drealms/slipgate studios and Nigel of Devolver came through! :(
Very good guys they are and a pleasure to deal with. Give them thanks!

Hopefully more/all of the material is released.

Fred's tweet mentioned concept art and other media too. Will they be released as bonus on Steam or just as .zip files somewhere?

I'm not sure but I would assume so, all I did was email Fred and Nigel to get them in contact with each other a little over a week ago to get the ball rolling.
I hope there's more on the way but the Alpha being released is chock-full of cool stuff as it is, it's a good start! :(
