Ken's Labyrinth II

[Edit] It's on the Build engine right?
[Edit 2] There's GZDoom mentioned in one of the posts so I guess it's GZDoom then (honestly I'd prefer Build just because).

A Google search led me to finding this post from the project's leader, probably best known as the voice in Brutal Doom.
The author is also registered here, however. Reveal yourself!

Can't blame him.

Will there be any voxels in the game? (I don't remember if GZDoom supports voxels, although I'm sure that some Doom port does). Also why didn't you choose Build?
#10 Posted 05 February 2017 - 07:06 AM
As for why we chose GZDoom, the reason is twofold. I would have loved to have used BUILD, but the fact of the matter is that I simply don't have the experience with it needed to be able to be hands-on with the project. Lord knows I've tried, but that Mapster is just not as user-friendly as I'd have hoped. That and I'm pretty sure there's no way to license EDuke32 for commercial use, whereas GZDoom has the GZDoom-GPL variant which is totally up for indies to use for development.

ZDooM/GZDooM does, but maybe not on GZDooM-GPL because Build code hates GPL and removal of ZDooM's software renderer. And Voxel code re-write still in WIP.

This said they used GZDooM for sure, and I'm not sure if they want use voxels as that parts still Build code, unless they don't use voxels anymore...
I know many of DooM fans not like Ken's Build license and likely want to get rid of them if alternative exists.
EDIT: Silly me, totally not see Zero X. Diamond's post when I post, ignore me please.

Ken's basically just an onlooker and well-wisher in all this, beyond receiving royalty payments for each sale we make in the end. However, as CryptKiller pointed out, he has volunteered to do some voice acting for the game!

Really? I've always heard that BUILD had a very restrictive license as far as commercial use goes.

I'm very sorry to hear you feel this way. Hopefully you'll still give us the benefit of the doubt and check out the game when it's ready??

This is presumably artwork that came from Epic's side, but despite being a nice illustration seemingly with the correct proportions for a big box cover, it has never been used outside the game's intro, at least as far as I know.

The whole intro sequence was Epic's doing, yes. Ken's not even sure who did the art--he assumed the Ken's Labyrinth logo before the screen you posted was done by Tim Sweeney when I asked about it--so I couldn't tell you if that image exists in a higher resolution form.

I would expect this kind of misinformation from the Doom community. It is only restrictive in the sense that you can't sell it without an agreement like you could something under the GPL. However, all you need is to talk to us.

[5] The use of the Build Engine for commercial purposes will require an
appropriate license arrangement with me. Contact information is

The source port authors have contributed our changes under the same license. If you talk to us, TX and I will make sure that Ken, JonoF, Plagman, and Helix are all represented.

Why is that a problem?

Since they're credited in the Epic release, I also theorize that the illustration may have been done by someone in Future Crew, although that probably means the artwork was only optimized for the low res version we see in the final product.
Ultimately, the main point is that Ken deserves far better than this monstrosity:
That ain't no Sparky in my book.

That's what I've always thought. The only thing is that I can't remember now where I read about Future Crew's involvement. It might have been some interview with Ken, perhaps this one.
