HTTKC and World Tour comparison

They are authorized Total Conversions developed by third parties, equivalent to a fan fiction being sold in book format, so they are not necessarily part of the "Duke Nukem IP".

It looks like there is no comparison, other than the names attached.
1 set of players is out to make a name for themselves.
The other set is out for some nostalgia and what would seem like a quick buck and possible piquing of interest for perhaps something newer.

To be honest, I probably don't know wtf I'm talking about when it comes to this. But what I do know, is that this community has made some downright beautiful stuff over the years and a multitude of it.

While the old creators seem to feel the need to dip back into it and charge money for their presence.

Am I wrong?

This is should belong to the WT thread but whatever..

I don't mind redoing stuff in general but what WT seems to do has similarities to star wars special editions, just adding / changing stuff that was good already.
Duke's voice? All they are doing is replacing what people thought to be the definite duke with something that people have disagreed on for years Almost as if they're correcting a past "mistake".

Graphical enhancements are like Store demo TV modes where they just boost everything to maximum with image processing, looks cool with the right material but anything that's not designed for it will look very out of place or unnatural.
Dynamic lights and enhancements are all over, every area glows brighter than the red light district in Amsterdam.
I hope that EP5 at least tries to show off dynamic lights in their glory.

I'm 100% in paying money to have some of my heroes working on something I still love, I consider it an expansion pack like anything else. Of course there will be some bias since It isn't part of original nostalgia, but as a mapper, I'm already very interested on what they can pull off after all those years. This stuff is something you can't really pull off for free.

Too bad that everything else is kinda sloppy about WT so far, egypt looks damn interesting.
Man... a combo of HTTKC and ep5 would have been something.. :/

I should clarify, I'll probably get it but I'd feel better about it if the 3 expansions were included. I don't care if they didn't put the lighting and normaled textures in. Just to have it all there.

I'll get it on PS4 just so I have it on PS4 (plus bots!) and that new campaign

HTTKC would have been easy to install on PC, even though it couldn't be readily sold for PC consumption. The basic file structure of Duke3D was present. Copy and paste those GRP files.

Heh, the main difference, of course, is the fact that World Tour is actually coming out...

That's interesting..

I actually thought that IP as in Intellectual Property would cut everything that has the name "Duke Nukem" in it. Does that mean then that 3D Realms neither owned Total Meltdown or Duke It Out In D.C. forexample? I am honestly confused now how this works.

It depends on the deal they made with Sunstorm back in the days, and if it has been changed/renegotiated since. 3D Realms selling or giving their rights to the Duke IP to Gearbox only affects those things that they actually had the right to. Prior licenses should still be legal, as long as they were correct to begin with.

Rezaurus, the company that made the old Duke action figures probably has some rights regarding to those specific designs/moulds, that's nothing 3DR could sell or lose.

So I'm really curious to know if would the Duke 64 & Total Meltdown parts included in this, would they have been the full versions of those games including the ps1 soundtrack and would each thing be played as its own game in the bundle? Or would it have been just the Plug N Pray episode by itself with Duke 64 levels tagging along. No matter how the finished product would of looked like Gearbox needs to reauthorize this port.

I recall the idea being that those would have been their own experiences.
PSX Duke's part would mostly focus on new EP and making game select port specific quirks work, otherwise keeping the upsides from PC duke such as better ART. Think of it as a "PC edition" of the game. Naturally stuff like menus/other screens would have been changed too from what I remember.
N64 Duke would be like playing the mod itself.

Regarding music,
Eduke added XA audio support some time ago, full soundtrack is working and I recall that the dynamic music thing was also implemented in.

So yeah, pretty much staring at 1.5 + expansions + D64 + DNTM as base content, then loads of extras like the grabbag remix, HUD icons and whatnot seen in various places here.

Basically "the" definite collection.

Thank you oasiz. Now I have a clearer understanding of what HTTKC would have been like. It sucks it got shut down. I wonder if Gearbox will reconsider it?

To be fair, Duke 64 mod was like that because I didn't have all the assets. Now that I do, I am making the mods identical to the original thing, with all the features nobody wants.

It's up to them I guess. No clue about the details there as I've mostly been beta testing and did work on the DNTM itself during it's earlier stages.
Anyway, It's a shame since it was much more than a re-compiled eduke32 on android with a price tag.
Would've had more content and effort than all the commercial ports combined ;)

Fox, Nice!
While some might disagree, I still think that a true 1:1 faithful port is good to have for preservation purposes.
It's a good base to work on.

That was the plan originally, then Mark Knight shared his lossless masters with us. ;) Fortunately we still need the XA support for the cutscenes.

This would be indeed the most kick-ass Duke game if it can come to fruition. Just thinking of having DN3D 1.5 with possibly World Tour, DN64, DNTM, along with the 3 expansions which I have entered played with new bells and whistles would be insane. I wonder if they would consider porting Xbox One since I'm going to own around Christmas time? Nothing like playing Duke on the big screen.
