There is no way in the world 50k is the entire's game budget considering it's been in development by several people for a year now, and considering what we can see of it already.
My interpretation of that twitter pic earlier ITT was incorrect, but I couldn't be wrong in saying the KS part is just a tiny bit of the budget. I'm not particularly fan of this kind of use of crowdfunding when they probably already have investors covering 10 times that amount but whatever, there are probably sides to this business I have no idea about.

They're not a wholly independent studio, since SDN Invest owns 3D Realms and, alongside being their principle investor, partially owns Interceptor. After Bombshell was such a costly flop that also was riding of 90's nostalgia and the 3D Realms name, I wouldn't be surprised if this campaign is to determine both the scope of the game and whether there's an audience for the project.

I think HiPolybash is on the money when he says a part of it would be that they're testing the waters. Who knows, maybe if they'd done something like that for Bombshell and it hadn't been as successful as Rad Rodgers, they would have perhaps made the game smaller, focusing their efforts elsewhere (and of course charging much less).

They said in an interview on politiken.dk that a game like bombshell costs between 4-6 million DKK. That is around 700.000-850.000 $. :D

Bombshell was still a flop as well. Cost -+ 1 million USD and it got 10thousand copies most of them at discount. That means at most 100 thousand after valves cut.

The game looks cool and it'd be nice to have more platforms with good modern art style, I enjoyed Duck Tales remastered and Rayman Origins looked amazing, and most sidescrollers these days either use faux retro graphics or 3D that looks disgusting like the latest Rocket Knights.

For the time being though, I'd rather play the game Daedolon posted.

They shouldn't use ks when they have a big backer putting money, that's sleazy. This is going to be their mighty number nine. Fredericks the new Inafune

True but no reason to exaggerate like you did :D
It flopped and that is it. Not millions lost. Not even 1 million.

Yeah not a million flop more like close to a million flop.

Yes, it is a bi too obvious ... and as a rule of thumb ... I never take people showing their bias too obviously even remotely serious. They usually have absolutely nothing of interest to say, unless you want to hear something from people on the internet you don't know and have nothing to say, that isn't biased.

I'm more like cautious and less enthusiastic than everyone here. After the flop that was bombshell I don't trust interceptor, or at least I trust them less. Sorry I'm not blinldy fanboyish about this ks like everyone else.

There are worse playing games with more bugs that have sold better than Bombshell. Don't mistake sales for quality.

I don't think anyone is fanboyish. People just think it looks surprisingly cool.

That said, in some of the FB groups I'm on, everyone seems to be hating it and calling it very "un-Apogee" which confuses me.

It looks generic and derivative. I do agree with them. And I don't use fb.

As far as theme goes, maybe. But the game could have fantastic gameplay for all you know. We haven't played it. I don't care about the subject matter so much as the gameplay and the jury is still out on that.

Hey Guys!

Thank you for all the great feedback.
Rad Rodgers is super important to us as a studio, and we really appreciate all the support.
If you want to help us, make sure to spread the word!

We just released the second update, where we announced a new big box tier, alongside a video of the prototype.
Check it out!

We're also looking for peepz to help with translations of the Kickstarter video.
So if you a grammatically fluent in Polish, Chineese, Russian, or German, let me know!

Wow, looks amazing! The music, sound design, voice, and graphics look impressive so far, but I think the main kiddo could use a more iconic/memorable look. Dusty's fine, but Rod Rodgers himself looks like a pretty generic kid; a Kid Nukem at best.

Fluent in German and my English is quite OK.

Just say what to translate and I'll do it for one shot of Jäger.

I've got it! Give Slammin' Sammy a helmet, preferably yellow and green, and a purple t-shirt, and bam, you've got instant memorability. Also, replace Jon St. John with a pogo stick.

No need to thank me for the great idea! All I ask for is 80% of the gross and 50k upfront.

Damn, it has been a week already and the game hasn't even reached 50%.. :D

Usually the game is funded or close to be funded within the first week. That is my experience atleast. :D

Eh, it's close. There are plenty of games that don't end up completely funded until their campaigns are almost over. With 24 days left, I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

In 2012-2013, games were funded on the first day. That's not the case anymore.

It's completely normal to enter a mid-campaign slump after the first few days in KS. If you look at a site like Kicktraq, which breaks down how projects are funded across their campaigns, it's evident while there are a handful of campaigns that maintain steady pledges (Divinity OS, Torment), they tend to be the exception. There's a pattern where the first and last days end up being the biggest earners. As long as Interceptor keeps posting updates and don't give the impression they've abandoned the project, it'll will likely do more than it's first day on October 6. Right now, they're sitting pretty with 43%. I'm confident they'll clear their goal and the momentum could even clear a stretch goal or two.

Yeah, anyone quick enough to make one of the early Kickstarters for games right after Double Fine would have a 95% success rate. Kickstarter fatigue quickly kicked in thereafter. Nowadays I don't think it'll ever recover. But it's more or less normal now and people don't freak out as much because it's not new anymore.

Particle cannon was only a young boy when it happened...the smell of summer filled the air and his youthful hopes seemed like genuine possibilities. While walking home one evening he was approached by some sort of faceless creature with a GT Interactive shirt on and a slender body that almost seemed unnatural. 'Hey kid, do you like balls?' the strange entity uttered. 'Ex..excuse me mister?' particle cannons voice trembled with fear confused as to the question being asked. 'I said do you like balls?' To which particle cannon let out a youthful squeak and in response stated 'only pinball, sir' and all of a sudden the figure leapt up and said in a loud booming pronounced voice "then you'll love BALLS OF STEEL!! A brand new pinball game for the Windows PC coming soon from Pinball Wizards and GT Interactive including tables such as Duke Nukem, that's right 3D Realms badass alien killer right there on the pinball table! The graphics are so real!". It became clear to particle cannon that the faceless creature was in fact just a publisher rep and it was entirely normal for them to be creepy faceless salesmen.

particle cannon proceeded to tell the rep he had no interest and then wandered on home and when he arrived home he was beaten with jumper cables by yet another rep screaming with the most ear piercing scream imaginable "REALITY IS OUR GAME DUKE NUKEM FOREVER COMING SOON, BALLS OF STEEL FEATURING THE DUKE NUKEM TABLE OUT SOON ON WINDOWS PC, PREY WITH MINDBLOWING PORTAL TECHNOLOGY COMING 1998!" and from that day onward the hype was deep in particle cannons mind building with anticipation year after year until one faithful May morning in 2009 he saw the news...the game he had waited for his entire life was doomed and would never be released. What tragedy is this, how horrible the world is for something this terrible to happen...and that's when it happened. The boys youthful optimism disappeared and was replaced with manful hate and outrage. It had become his life mission to spread the word of hate about 3D Realms no matter who ran it or what they were doing.

Particle cannon had the hype beaten into him at a young age and with the disappointment of Duke Nukem Forever his life long mission is spreading hate and anger. Some say even today if you post something mildly positive online about 3D Realms you can hear his voice lightly in the air 'fuck 3D realms'.
