The book is called "Ben-Hur", duh... And it's not a franchise per se with 1-2-3-4 entries. Same goes for The Thing. No need to hide from it being remake and just calling it same name.

With games it's a bit different and calling new games as they were calling the old one is a bit confusing. Doom2016 had no business being called like that. Doom II could have been named Doom, so is Doom3, but they weren't. It's not like there is some story arc or some shit involved.
But not everything is lost - at least Final Fantasy is still counting.

They always had a subtitle though, so they definitely made a clear distinction between entries. And the second game actually had a "2" in the title.

I don't think they'll be able to make a good title with the word "five" in it, but there are a lot of words with the letter "V". I hope they keep it short though, a long subtitle just isn't right for a main-series Duke game.

I know what they can do... They can head off criticism by putting it right in the title: Duke Nukem Sucks. If someone tells self-depreciating humor, it's pretty hard to insult them since they're already doing it themselves. If you take yourself seriously, then people will rip you to shreds... But if you doing self-parody and basically insulting yourself... This works in real life with people so I think it would work here. You could create a very enjoyable game while still following this formula. The only problem is that Randy is already such an egomaniac and full of hot air that I'm surprised the roof hasn't lifted off their offices.
