My point is, you as the consumer should not be fixing fucks up done by developers. That is fucking unacceptable.

Especially when it wasn't fucked up 20 years ago.

To be honest, I actually like some of these smoothed sound effects, especially the chaingun. I'd like to use that in eDuke32. Some of the old sounds are a bit sibilant, just saying. Everybody has different taste on what is acceptable. I do think they should've included the original sounds, but being moddable is something.

The sound effects aren't smoothed. They aren't anything other than converted to low bitrate OGG.

We've referred to them as muffled before, smoothed is just another word for describing that. I found the pistol sound to be overly muffled sounding, so I replaced it, but overall I don't mind the sound.

We all should have known since WT was announced that the two main reasons to get this were the new levels and Lee's remastered music. I couldn't care less about the port they created. All that matters now is to get the new content properly running in EDuke32. Then we can forget about all the rest.

The new renderer is pretty terrific too, to be fair.

But it can look pretty much the same in EDuke32. Maybe not with SSAO and totally identical lighting, but close enough.

Not a fan of how Polymer runs to be honest, and the lighting wouldn't work in Polymost right? So for me the new episode is most definitively played in this game's new renderer, until such a time that one of those improved renderers' like the project ice was working on become a reality.

Have you tried the pack Hendricks released so you can run the game with EDuke32? Performance seems pretty good...

I haven't tried it, and I'm not discrediting any work being done over here, I'm just saying World Tour does have some things of value, such as what to me would seem to be the best renderer Duke 3D has had so far.

PsychoGoatee is literally a Gearbox shill.

Just a bonafide G posting his genuine opinions, with plenty of detail and logic involved. Have you even played this fine game, Jimbo?

New renderer is good. Your rebuttal is that? Met with facts, you go for the silly ad hominem route as per usual.

It still lacks options and various other things, eDuke32 will always be my fav place to play user maps, but playing Alien World Order in World Tour's new renderer is good times. And I'm enjoying replaying the main game as well.

I will retry the episode in eDuke32 later, as there is proper weapon switching, proper mouselook that doesn't feel I am dragging things through mud.

OK, a few projectiles seem to be missing ... but since I wasn't hit once by the final boss it shouldn't matter that much. ;)

Don't you have an i5 or i7-6000 series? ;)

I've read the mouse complaints, but just for the record, I have crisp responsive mouse control in World Tour. I did raise the game's mouse sensitivity about 80%, and I'm already at a really high 1800 dpi setting on my razer mouse. if I didn't like it I'd say so, no shill, just sharing another gamer's experience with it.

I admit the weapon switching is fairly useless in a battle in this, but I use hotkeys myself. They should fix it, it just doesn't happen to effect my experience the way I play.

Don't be ridiculous. Gearbox is trying a brilliant new marking strategy where they let you do some of the work for them, and in return they make the game cheaper to buy. That's why the game is so incredibly cheap.

Oh wait...

I didn't rebut anything. You're a shill, plain and simple. You've been shilling for a long time.

You need a dictionary Jimmy. Look up the word, for starters. You believe I'm being paid by Gearbox? Funny either way in your ignorance.

To be fair, Gearbox' port doesn't look bad. As Mikko stated in his review on MSDN, the new levels have been particularly made for this kinda lighting and will look boring in some spots if it's not used. The sound and control issues are nothing that can't be fixed, and if they are (together with the glitchy rewind savegame feature), it can become pretty decent.

However, the thing is: At least the sound issues had been noticed in the trailers quite early, and apparently nothing was done about it. Hopefully they realize the severity of the matter now and do something about it. If you ask for 20 bucks for a game that most people already own once or more, you gotta make sure it's working properly at least.

You know, if you can anticipate that easily that people will say they're not getting "exactly the game you want it to be", wouldn't it make sense to, you know, make the game exactly what people want it to be?

The issues are well known. The fixes are easy. Your move Gearbox.

To be fair, some people on here said some ridiculous things about him in particular.

He didn't do a bad job with the new recordings. But if they made new ones for the pain sounds and some others ("alien bastards" instead of "alien maggots"), I certainly wouldn't mind...

I agree, and not talking about criticism of his performance, some have thrown personal insults at Jon on here as well.

You don't have to be paid to be a forum shill.

I post genuine opinions, proving it to you in particular is a waste of everybody's time.

Speaking of the engine and whatnot, was cool that Allen gave a shoutout to eduke in the commentary of Golden Carnage, just listened to it. Also having TROR etc.

I internet translated a couple of the French jokes on posters in Tour De Nukem, they say "Large Wig Beer!" and "Lacking brassiere"!

Posted Image

Several of these are incorrect French. To begin with "Tour De Nukem" sounds weird to me, I'm not exactly sure if it's grammatically correct, but I think that related to people names you'd say "Tour Nukem" (like "Tour Eiffel", not "Tour d'Eiffel") and only when it's related to the name of a place you'd say "Tour De Pise".
But it's not like there is any "tower" in the map anyway.

"Deesse brasser" doesn't seem to make any sense to me no matter how I look at it from a French point of view. Only when I looked it up on wordreference to give me ideas I finally understood it: it's basically "Goddess brew" and they translated each word literaly, which sadly doesn't make any sense.

Above the "ne pas travasser" sign there is a graffiti saying "La fin est proce", again I'm not sure if it's a joke but if it is I don't get it, but it should be "la fine est proche" meaning "The end is near".

I know there are others I noticed but I don't remember right now. Pretty sure the frog one is wrong too.
In the dev commentary Levelord too is quick at dissociating himself with this mess, giving credits to the artists at Nerve for these jokes.

Edit : Maybe their translation of "Goddess Brew" would make more sense if they at the very least knew how to translate things literally; as, if my assumptions on how they did this are correct, they translated a noum (brew) to a verb (brasser). Maybe if they had taken a noum instead of a verb in the list, which seem the logical thing to do, it would have made more sense.
Maybe they just asked google translate.

Thanks for the info there, I must have mispelled it, when I put it in it said "lacking brasser", and I thought that mean brassier. Could it be a double entendre, since the cartoon does seem to be lacking a brassier?

(edit: ah I see what happened, google auto detected it as latin for some reason)

That's what I thought at first, the double meaning thing, when I read your post; but when I remembered it was "brasser" I knew we are giving them too much credits here if we think they'd make "Frenglish" jokes.

I mean, most of the jokes here seem to be stereotypical, either have things "sound French" or have things like "Frogs." It's not any deeper than that.
I don't even think "Deèsse brasser" is supposed to be a joke btw. Some other textures aren't jokes. I'll translate them all a bit later since you seem to care.

I'm currently trying to re-record all the sounds for use in World Tour so that the quality is good again. I think I nailed the pistol already, only a few hundred more to go.

Might also use some of the high quality sounds perkristian compilated, and some Total Meltdown sounds that Fox ripped.
