This may require an entire redo of existing TCs and mods to function with the new Duke

I believe something TX said originally mentioned that their new engine breaks existing mods.

The only way I'll hand over any money for this is if it goes on sale at a hefty discount at some point in the future. I own multiple copies of 3D, and as much as I do respect Lee Jackson, Richard Gray and Allen Blum for taking the time to do something new for the series (small though it may be) I cannot bring myself to pay the full price knowing who else that money would be supporting.

Randy Pitchford doesn't deserve to have the Duke Nukem IP. I'd much rather see it in the hands of a company like Devolver Digital and let them give Flying Wild Hog the double whammy of Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior to build upon as devs, but you can't always get what you want.

Bought PS4 with Xbone just so I could pre-order all versions of this masterpiece which is even better than EDuke32! Going to pre-order each copy for my relatives, cat and dog, they have to play this masterpiece and hear Randy song. Also can't wait to hear shitty references from American TV shows, Bazinga is especially favorite of mine. :D

By the way, how mentally challenged one have to be to play FPS with a controller? As a console gamer in the past, I seriously cannot understand how anyone can play FPS with a controller, just how? Do these people code and design games with controllers too?

Next they'll announce each Megaton expansion as separated paid DLC.

Eh, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it.

Sorry but never FWH. Those guys don't understand anything about clever level design, or non-boring gameplay and that has been proven multiple times now.

I've said in the past that even if it doesn't I can probably do a port of it, as long as I can get my hands on the game files.

I'm gonna say no. Nerve is working on this port and with the Doom ports, they altered the original data files so Doom source ports had to be updated to use the data (or created patches to fix the wads) so I guess after the port is released, the EDuke32 team will have a look at getting it supported.

Eh... I'm curious about this, but it just doesn't seem worth it after getting this game multiple times over the years including Megaton. Also no Linux support for nerds like me. Boo.

I'm entirely open to it being another team, at this point almost any team with an ounce of passion for Duke would be an improvement, I just used FWH as an example because that was the name at the forefront of my mind at the time.

While I was prepared for no new full Duke game, consider me officially a little disappointed that we get a five-week preorder wait instead of an immediate release. I mean, the game is not only 20 years old but was up until recently already available in a "modernized" package. Lame, Randy.

I can't wait until someone pulls all the decent stuff from this on release and makes it a mod for normal Duke3d and by extension EDuke32.

If all it got is a new weapon and dynamic lighting, then it's nothing that Eduke can't handle on its own.

I could go for it with a 50% discount but no less. I'm sure that part of their thinking was "we'll price it high so the eager ones will pay top dollar, but we expect most people to buy it on sale, where we'll still make some decent cash due to the high original price".

Misleading marketing in relation to what? Interceptor guys seem alright, when people complained about stuff in Rise of the Triad they made an effort to fix it instead of pulling a Randy and saying people don't know what they're talking about. I wasn't a fan of Bombshell, it was a bit of fun but it should have been a $15 title with better dialogue and not as stretched out.

When they originally showed it off and called it an "action RPG", everyone was basically calling it Diablo with guns. They were flattered by that comparison and went with it. They even said themselves that in hindsight they should have marketed it as an "action game with light RPG elements". Naturally when it came out and it wasn't what everyone was expecting, all the review sites teared it to shreds and nobody bought it as a result (well, at least when combined with the high price and average gameplay).

I also really don't like the muted palette logo.

No. If they started from when/before the source was originally licensed they can do as they wish with it including relicense their changes.

Wouldn't one expect those kinds of jokes with the name "Science Porn"? I hate how everyone gets offended over nothing..

K, sticking with the Megaton edition I already have on Steam. Don't get me me wrong, Duke was and will be my favorite gaming action hero, but I'm feeling "meh" towards this re-release.

As much as a new episode with some of the old hands does sound cool, I can't help but feel that the whole way it was announced with a countdown was anticlimactic and kind of bizarre to begin with. The Duke community already knew what is essentially another 3D re-release was incoming, even if it wasn't to the exact nature that we might have been expecting, and the wind was certainly taken out of the sails when it was leaked that that was what the countdown was for, (admittedly we didn't know for sure if anything else was going to be announced along with it, i.e. new Duke game, but it seemed unlikely). The fact that it ended with a preorder which is still weeks out, and at a $20 price tag, really is kind of out there. And did Randy really sing on the stream? What the hell... :D

I had forgotten about this, bit of a misstep really though it does have RPG elements but I guess the early press impressions blew it out of proportion. I do not think that really impacted on sales or reviews though as it was more the that it was a full priced top down shooter in a new franchise that had non-existent marketing that launched in a buggy state. I don't know who did their marketing for Bombshell if anyone but fire that guy. Even Rise of the Triad got coverage on websites and I saw a few channels on YouTube doing videos about it, some ads, promotions, and such. Bombshell had nothing on top of being a stretched out mess at launch with that terrible dialogue and glitchy as fuck.

Bombshell suffered through the whole Mass Destruction debacle, was retooled in a rush and met with negative reception, and redone again before being seemingly rushed out to market at a ridiculous price for what it was but on the positive side they did take all the feedback in to account releasing several patches for it which drastically improved the game. Feels like the end product of no outside playtesting and a rush to release. They should have put out an early beta demo or something like that to get feedback on the game considering the end product it seems like they had no brutally honest outside playtesting otherwise 'how many aliens does it take to screw in a lightbulb' and the executions that are too long and kill the pacing wouldn't have made it to release. It had so many problems it wasn't funny which is a shame because under most of that crap was something that would have been a fun little game for a $15 price tag. It feels like they purposefully tried to make the game longer without any of the content behind it. Empty ass levels that drag on though the newer patches fix a lot of that.

I'm sure they would have learnt from that though because the patches improved most of what was complained about, they did the same with Rise of the Triad improving it over patches and fixing issues that people were complaining about, improving the game overall.

Back on topic though, it looks like the YouTube comments feel me when it comes to my complaints about Jon St. Johns voice. I wish Gearbox would direct him properly. We know it isn't his age because of the interviews where he says Gearbox gave him more freedom instead of 3D Realms who always made him do the dirty harry teeth grinding sort of thing. During the stream he didn't even sound like Duke when he tried to do the voice, it was just a tone deeper than his regular speaking voice..

Don't forget the hardcore Duke community is still a very small proportion of people who would buy Duke-related products.

Still, I agree the countdown feels unnecessary, considering it was a countdown to an announcement rather than any kind of event like a product being available. I was expecting some kind of announcement about a new Duke game (without getting excited about it), and that the World Tour thing would be some kind of promotion for it in the same vein that the Bombshell Prequel is meant to get people into Bombshell.

Why in the world are the medkits censored though? What's remotely offensive about having a red cross (that pretty much universally means aid) on them?

I'll just leave this here.
