Reviews from 1996 because reviews for this version would likely be lower

"Gearbox Software Presents: A game by Nerve Software and Gearbox Software"

What is a 3D realm anyways, eh?

Man, that's lazy.

Is something in WT doesn't has laziness? ;)

A few things I noticed from these videos:

  • They corrected the widescreen RPG sprite (it looks almost identical to the HTTKC one now.)
  • Also the lines "I could do this all day" and "I am the king of the world, baby" in that launch trailer were directly from Manhattan Project. They stood out 'cause the MP ones had more compression applied to 'em compared to the new JSJ lines for World Tour.

That footage looks pretty bizarre; going toe-to-toe with a (mini) Battlelord, shooting enemies with an RPG at point blank range - did they have some random passerby play the game?

I agree, also, I feel like they really overdid the "shoot, then look at a wall" thing..

Creating a trailer with footage from a classic game like that is not the smartest move. It's like you want to show off in front of your friends that all drive Porsche cars, but all you got is a bike with three gears. It may get the hardcore fans interested, but people who may have never played or even seen the game before will not get turned on by these visuals. Of course, you cannot change the way the game looks if you don't use a different engine and all-new graphics.

In the end, watching this makes me wonder about the game they should have announced instead and didn't. And I can't help but thinking: "If only they had the balls to create a really new Duke game..."

And yepp, it doesn't look good if they use the old ratings from 1996 to make it look like they were the ones for World Tour.

They did not fix the mini Overlord and Emperor suicide bug? Is that for real?

The more we see, the more shit there is.

Actually, now that I rewatched it, I'm pretty sure the rocket only hit the octabrain in front of the Overlord. The other rocket passed through just fine.

I guess we'll know for sure within an hour.

So if I get this right, the game currently feels... average?

Huh, no. Look at the screenshot, the explosion is behind the Overlord. The Octabrain just died instantly when he was caught by the explosion.

How does one even gauge explosion radius in 2.5 engines?

It's a simply equation based on the distance from the object and explosion.

I really liking it so far. Finished only the first level of the new episode..I'm too lazy to find the 4th secret.
Started the second map and have to say the atmosphere there is really brilliant because of the great music. Plus this one looks more open / non-linear than the first one.

Btw the translation sucks. I wish i could disable it (PS4).

When a game's release date is set on Steam, it generically sets the time to 10 AM PDT which is when the store updates for the day. It usually doesn't reflect the actual release period unless the developers specifically define it.

According to this announcement on Gearbox's site, the game's time of release is 5 PM PDT, or about 7 hours from this post.

Yep, same here.

Too stupid to handle an automatic Steam release. :/

All I'm saying is I think it's the first time I see the hours counter for the game's unlocking being wrong. Maybe I just never noticed though.

That same page you linked to says October 10 at the top, huh

According to the front page the game is out.

But, it said release date 12th on "upcoming releases" yesterday.

So, someone really screwed up there at GBX.

Here is what I mean. It is listed under "relased" with a release date of tommorow:

I don't know why they can't just use Steam's default release time to release the game, not their own one and caused players are confusing about release date when they see Steam store's one... *facepalm*

I should wait one more day to get it... since it's now Oct 12 in my time zone, and it'll unlocked on 8AM and I can only play it after I get off work and complete some shit I needed to do, which is on night time...damn it.

No. It's impossible to pre-order or buy the game at all in Europe, since they forgot to add it to the PlayStation store...

I watched that red ruckus video. Man, what a terrible player. I was facepalming throughout the entire thing..

But at least the map looks pretty cool!

Ended up pre ordering it yesterday so I have something to play on PS4 while I move.
I then saw it had a physical copy at Gamestop. FARK

Plenty of developers fucked up with release date like that, but they fixed it ASAP (at worst it usually takes 5 minutes). I find it hilarious that even small developers who set their own release date can handle things better than Gearbox which is bigger and has more experience with Steam.

Can't believe I got up earlier just to find out that Gearbox fucked up with release.
