Further on the topic of promotional/pre-release screenshots, there's a pretty widespread slideshow of
The Elder Scrolls: Arena from 1993 which comes from the time when the game still had a party of characters:
arenasld.zip. However, later Bethesda recycled many these shots by replacing the HUD with the one from the final game, and re-released the slideshow. Some of these shots were used on the back cover of the game's box. This version of the slideshow is, for whatever reason, very rare. The
demo download page at bethsoft.com indicates that the file name was also arenasld.zip and the size was 519,478 bytes. While the file has not yet been found, a repack of its contents is available
here. This version was originally found by
Awoo and posted
here.
Many pre-release screenshots from
Daggerfall have been documented by
Hallfiry and listed at the
UESP Wiki.
The Terminator: Future Shock also had a large number of pre-release screenshots available at the
official page. Many of them were also downloadable in a single zip archive, shockgif.zip, of which I believe
this is a valid copy save for an externally added FILE_ID.DIZ. The screenshots at Bethesda's site have not been preserved by the Wayback Machine.
I have found a gallery with pre-release shots (in JPEG quality and stretched for correct aspect ratio)
here. Images numbered 001, 004 and 005 are termsht2.gif, termshot.gif and briefing.gif from the site/downloadable pack respectively. Notice the pre-release HUD and interface buttons.
The demo versions of
Future Shock also show some screen shots upon exit. Each version has a shot made inside some compound, driving a vehicle and piloting aircraft. These are:
The first two are from demo v0.144 and the other three - from demo v1.00. The driving screenshot from v0.144 is identical to drive.gif from the site. All these shots except the flying one from v0.144 are used on the
back side of the game's box. The box also shows one currently unknown screenshot with an old version of the laser rifle (no night vision image in the scope).
SkyNET also had a large number of screenshots on the
official pictures page (again, nothing preserved by the WM). Here's a list of file names:
Again, a file called skypics1.zip with (some of) the shots was available from Bethsoft, but not preserved either.
Hallfiry's catalogue shows that many of the shots from Jan 07, 1996 are found
here. The image of this CD does not seem to be available though, I have asked
Hallfiry about it. Maybe some files are available under different names on some CDs or elsewhere.
The
SkyNET demo only shows very small images of screen shots upon exit:
Three of these are also shown on the
back of the box, and two found
here in small resolution.
However, the Absolute Games.RU website has preserved a number of apparently official screenshots in high resolution, including some of the above. I've just re-uploaded the images
here. The file names were not preserved. The back of the box shows shots number 3, 5, 7 and 9.
For other games, Bethesda's downloads page mentions a slideshow of
The Terminator: Rampage (ramslide.zip, 299,436 bytes), and non-interactive demo of
The Terminator: 2029 (2029.zip, 2,275,891 bytes). Neither file has been found yet. cd.textfiles.com has a version of
ramslide.zip but the size doesn't match. It's possible that this is an earlier version of the slideshow compared to what Bethesda had on their site (similar to the two
Arena slideshows).
Additionally, I have found a slideshow of
DletaV:
deltasld.zip.
On an unrelated note, a CD at cd.textfiles has two packs of
Heretic screenshots in PCX format:
HRTCPCX.ZIP and
HTSCRNS!.ZIP. HRTCPCX.ZIP contains pre-release screenshots taken from the Interactive Entertainment's preview of the game.
