Some guy in Russia has gotten Duke Nukem 3D to run on the 80386... It's completely pointless, but I seem to remember there being a thread talking about the lowest spec hardware that would "run" the game where it was discovered (by me, I think) that 486 architecture was the minimum requirement.

I remember DN3D can run at <1fps if I played about some levels or shitload of explosions happened when back at my first computer (AMD 486DX2-66)...running at 386 just really pointless at all...

I think it would be interesting to learn if the code could be somehow optimized even further to have the game play at an acceptable rate on a 386.

IIRC there are special sprite sets in StarCraft for certain units, which have less frames. These sprites are loaded if the game is run on a low-spec machine. Blizzard did other optimizations as well to get the game running on less powerful configurations.

If parts of EDuke32 were ported back to DOS, a higher frame rate could certainly be achieved. The original CON system had fairly large overhead, much of which has been drastically improved with our rewrites.

He started a load of nonsense here and when he didn't get the pity for his alleged situation because of contradictions in his posts, nor the praise for his self-proclaimed 'genius' computer knowledge, he threw a temper tantrum and burned all his bridges.

If he would have left out his little footnote in the OP and his caustic comments in the second post, nobody would have said anything about him. His exile is self imposed because he can't stop shit-posting and talking down to people. Nobody will put up with it.
