Mapster32 Tutorials by DavoX
#1 Posted 14 April 2015 - 06:57 AM
Hello everyone!
I'd like to share with all of you my current project...
Mapster32 Video Tutorials
As you all know, I work in the videogames industry as a level designer and I want to share what I know, with all of you!
I intend to make video tutorials in high quality about Level Editing with Mapster32, the level editor I'm most comfortable with.
Things that the videos will feature:
-Both english and spanish subtitles (Voices are in spanish sorry, but I translate everything)
-Shortcuts in the description of the video to the most important parts of the video.
-Direct links to other videos to show what I'm talking about at some point, without interrupting the main video.
-Each video will show a beginners architecture first, and then at the end, an advanced version of said "room" or "place" will be shown as example of what can be done.
-I'll be answering your questions, Always!
I hope you like them!
The plan
1- Full video with all of the sector effectors and how to use them. (the idea is to have this in hand whenever you want to make a map)
2- Full video with all sector tags and how to use them. (the idea is to have this in hand whenever you want to make a map)
3- Your first room.
4- Make the outside of that house , learn to create windows, doors... etc.
Please make suggestions on what you want to see!
This is the first video, it's just an introduction to the build engine, it's capabilities etc... I'm sure that I've missed things that will probably show up in later videos.
REMEMBER TO TURN ON SUBTITLES IF YOU SPEAK ENGLISH!
Set up Mapster32 to get started:
ENGLISH AND SPANISH SUBTITLES, TURN THEM ON!

Awesome, it looks very promising. Siempre he pensado que mi punti débil es el gameplay y como planearlo a manera que no sea solamemte un key o button hunting, ojalá puedas ahondar más en eso.

I'll be talking about gameplay, keeping things fluid and with excitement, etc... don't worry

I do speak english, I wish there was an alternate audio channel for youtube videos.
My english is not that good so I preferred doing spanish voice with english subtitles.

I'm posting this just as a test.
I'm testing the subtitles, the way the effectors are presented, I need your feedback guys.
That's the main reason this video doesn't have audio, it's just a test and don't want it to spread everywhere.

Subtitles looked good to me, but the video wasn't clear enough to see the text on the sprites in 2D mode.

Good idea on making a tutorial and this promotional video for it is cool
You make good maps clean cut and modern to and heheh I have to point out "architecture" at 3:24 in the first video dat architecture I think it might be the reason why you are so good at architecture by the way you pronounce it heheh. Just joking around with you
cool video and idea the subtitles were easy to follow but just remember most people looking up tutorial will be absolute noobs of it so remember take it slow and detail full.

Even after hearing it for decades I still get a chuckle when listeneing to a spanish or other foreign speaking announcer that has to use an english word in the middle of a sentence because there is not a native equivelent.

It's not an english word. Arquitectura is the spanish word for Architecture, not some weird pronunciation

I have Spanish in my family I know how to pronounce it, I was just saying probably why you are good at it I didn't mean in a bad way either its cool. Also, for recording have you tried a capture card rather then software? I have a feeling it could be better and maybe the best way to go. Another idea I have for screen recording is a combination of using xsplit broadcaster and fraps. With xsplit broadcaster you can broadcast your desktop and there's a window that shows you what your broadcasting, you can record this window using fraps. Now minimize this window and make mapster32 full screen this could make the switch between 2d and 3d less power consuming while fraps is running since it isn't directly recording mapster (possibly). Now I haven't tested the second option with mapster32 yet but I have with another program not sure it would help or not really. I don't know what you use for video editing but if it is windows movie maker be sure you choose a custom export setting and not one of there defaults

Hey Davox, have you released any maps? Can't remember any but some mod which I didn't play because I thought Duke is not a great parkour game.
#18 Posted 19 April 2015 - 05:41 PM
Yes. I've made the last 2 maps for the Duke nukem forever 2013 DLC. Born to be wild and time to kick ass (the motorcyle and stadium maps)

You mention in mapster to press INTRO to go to 3D mode. Is INTRO the name for the numpad enter button on non U.S. keyboards?

I should probably change it to something else. I forgot it says intro in my spanish keyboard. Would you mind telling me what it says on yours so I can update it?

The key is usually only labeled "Enter", but the full name is "Keypad Enter".
