I'd be interested to see this happen.
I think it's important to note that just because Randy and Fred say they want to do it, they have to go through 2K and various legal departments, who may say no. So no guarantees that this will actually happen.
icecoldduke - Apart from running it past the legal department and the salaries of the people to put it together, what costs do you see for this?
Where are the Duke Nukem Forever Modding Tools? "A discussion to talk about modding tools for DNF."

I only have assumptions and guesses. 2k has something that people want. Gearbox wants to make it happen. 2k realizes Gearbox has a lot of money. 2k lost a lot of money on DNF. It just smells like 2k is going ask for Blood IP level money to resolve the DNF tool situation. Wether that's Randy buying out 2k's remaining interest in DNF, or some other nasty business deal that leaves Randy on the short end of the stick; if this happens you guys better kiss Randy's ass.
However this is merely a guess.

I assume that in the event he does buy out the DNF interest, he could potentially also do something with the DNF beta builds?
Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if some part of Gearbox or 2K wants DNF to stay buried and forgotten so the franchise can move forward with new games.

I can see that being the case as well.

While DNF getting mod support will likely revive some portion of the game's life span, I don't realistically see 2K agreeing to it.
2K is owned by Take Two and Take Two just caused a massive shit storm with GTA5's mod support, I doubt they're eager to be friendly to any other mod support.
Hope I'm wrong though.

Thats apples and oranges. Take Two tried to take down OpenIV because they believed it enabled cheaters in GTA online. DNF multiplayer is dead. It's not a revenue source for them, so I doubt that would be a reason to hold back the tools.

Take Two just doesn't support modding. That's all.
If Gearbox buys back the rights to DNF, it opens a whole new world of possibilities, and a chance for Randy to redeem himself and right past wrongs. I hope it happens. Although, I must say, without the 2009 build of DNF before 3DR shut their doors, I'm not sure of the point of modding tools.

If the community can make "next-gen" content in DNF without having to resort to EDuke32 and all its hacks (I don't say that in a derogatory way, it does amazing things but it is limited and doesn't have the same freedom), I think most would be happy with that.

That won't happen without the 2001 DNF codebase also going open source. You can't make next gen content in a 2001 version of Unreal .

From what Randy said in the cast, he wants to release the older builds (or portions of them) in some kind of special presentation package, maybe with a documentary. Although that would be really nice, I don't think that it would be within the scope of DNF tools. Anything beta-related would be within this separate special he's planning (depending, again, on 2K).
