Where are the Duke Nukem Forever Modding Tools?  "A discussion to talk about modding tools for DNF."

I have created this topic to share our feelings about Duke Nukem Forever and the lack of modding support it got from day 1. Yes there are SOME tools out there that can alter the game a bit like the downgrade patch and Noesis, but if anyone has ANY other information or feelings about DNF modding tools, let your voices be heard below!

They're on an archive tape buried in a storage space Gearbox has.

The game came out nearly 3 years ago already.

It's safe to say the idea of modding DNF is dead, and we should all move on.

You've got that right.

My thoughts on DNF modding: it's too bad they were pulled/abandoned/banned because it would have provided an easy means to improve on its failings. It was a ridiculous decision unless the point was to get DNF out of the way and forgotten as quickly as possible. Easiest way to do it would be to ban mod tools.

As it is, it's pointless to try and mod for it because any tools that DO exist are either hard to find, hard to use, or don't do everything we need/want them to. And it's not worth anybody's while to take the time to reverse engineer the game to the point of being able to mod it effectively to everybody's desires because Gearbox has made it so hard, the game isn't that good to begin with, and the love is just gone. There's no passion for it anymore. Not enough, anyway. The ship has sailed. The moment has passed and will never come again. Congratulations, Gearbox. You succeeded.

Legend has it, the Duke Nukem Forever Modding Tools are buried somewhere in New Mexico... never to be seen again.

The original DNF modding tools used by the team up until ~2008 was a set of virtual reality pods. You would step into them and it would appear to you as though you were inside the game itself, and you could then build and craft the levels to your liking in-person. The perfect mod tools.

Naturally the oil company bought it up and the tools were never seen again. In any case, this allowed 3DR to push on with development for another year or so, until George ultimately gambled the $70 billion away (on the bet that he could actually finish DNF), which pretty much made him lose by default, resulting in the closure of 3DR.

Obvious joking aside, has anything related to the DNF modding tools (titled "Duke's Enormous Tool" (more like Duke is an Enormous Tool thanks to DNF) apparently) been found in the 3DR archives?

We haven't been sent anything like that. Doing anything with it would be out of the question anyway for obvious reasons.

It's a shame really, how the vast majority of developers nowadays don't seem to give a shit about fanmade content, or their publisher is operated by people with as many brain cells as the amount of times Randy Pitchford has told the truth

Duke Nukem Reloaded Complete Posted Image

Seriously though I'd be pretty interested in Yatta Goes to Vegas.

Also, isn't the eduke32 client-server beta already out? And has been so for a year or more? Posted Image
If you're implying a much more updated version is privately available, then you're taking that list too far.

it is Gearbox policy not to release mod tools for their games. The absence of mod tools is extremely important for them. it is something they are very proud of.

I thought it was because DukeEdit didn't actually work properly anymore, and wasn't salvageable.

Absolutely. I'd like a whole box of cookies, actually. Chocolate chip, please.
