3D Realms Kickass Moments Contest!

Hey everyone! I’m Becky, the new Marketing Director at 3D Realms.

Posted Image

Did you know that we’ve released more than 35 games in the past 27 years? We’re lucky to have worked a range of historic and legendary titles.
We’re making a video montage in celebration of the Apogee / 3D Realms legacy and would like your help!
Record your favorite kickass moments from any classic Apogee / 3D Realms game and share them with us to enter our Kickass Moments Contest.

Winners will receive a free 3D Realms t-shirt, and a ton of free Apogee / 3D Realms classics.

The rules are simple:

1. Record some of your favorite moments in any Apogee / 3D Realms game
2. Make sure to export the video as a 1920x1080p MP4 (upscaling DosBox footage is fine!)
3. Upload your footage to YouTube with the hashtag #kickassmoment and share the link on Twitter, Facebook, or here on this forum
3. Host your footage on Dropbox, Google Drive or any other similar service so that we can directly download it

Posted Image

Entries must be submitted to the competition’s duke4.net forum thread before September 11th, 2014 at 12:00pm GMT.
After we’ve reviewed every submission, we’ll choose our favourites for entry into the video montage.
If your video was selected, we’ll send you a badass 3D Realms t-shirt, and some great yet-to-be-announced goodies!

Winners willl be sent a private message via the duke4.net forum after we post the montage containing the successful submissions.

Screen-captures would be best :) 1080p.

I'll try and get some done. From real DOS too - I have a rather unique setup.

What frame rate do you want? 60? 50? 30? 25? 24?

Question! Before I waste my time.

You said "moments" in the rules. Does that mean we're good to upload a few or would you prefer each user keeps it to just one moment?

Hi i was wondering How long the video of our fav moments could be?

So older the better? Does that mean we have more of a chance to win if we post a video of Kroz.

Also are you going to sell those T-shirts too?

Any time is fine! As long as they're kickass :)
You'll have to wait and see about the t-shirts!

Everything counts equally :)
But the natural thing would be to send a lot of Duke3D and Shadow Warrior moments.
That's great, but some smaller titles would be great to see as well. Stryker, Stone, Blaze, Harry, etc. ;)

It's midnight at the office atm.
Still have work to do before leaving for today!

My desk right now:

- My original Grey Gameboy
- Wario Land 1 (Super Mario Land 3) for Gameboy
- A Lego Businesscard Stand
- Bottle Opener
- Banana (I need to throw that out )
- A copy of Duke Nukem 3D
- The Fan Movie "Roughrider" by Will Martin on DVD
- A Zip Drive
- The 1993 book "The 22 immutable laws of marketing", by Al Ries and Jack Trout (Check it out. It's great!)
- An IDE Cable
- A Tiberian Sun GDI Soldier Steel figurine
- A Heavy Metal 2000 keyboard mat
- And the obvious. Mouse, Keyboard, Monitors, etc.

I'll let becky answer the rest ;P

You're seriously not gonna leave Duke Nukem 3D on the desk?

From a technical standpoint, DOSBox footage should be hosted on Dropbox/Google Drive/etc before upscaling. That way, 3DR's video producers can upscale it themselves correctly, and in a uniform way.

I don't mean to also nitpick but the main post seems to contradict itself at least once.:

Winners will receive a free 3D Realms t-shirt, and a ton of free Apogee / 3D Realms classics.

If your video was selected, we’ll send you a badass 3D Realms t-shirt, and some great yet-to-be-announced goodies!

Anyway, as much as I'd like that cool shirt, I think the other guys here are better at recording things than myself. Not sure exactly why you locked the contest down to members of Duke4 though.

I'm going to blame Fred for that ;)
But yes, you'll get the t-shirts, games, and other goodies :)

I think the idea here guys is that the team can make a quick trailer without having to bother with too many video resolutions and setting it up themselves it seems. Sounds kind of like making a launch trailer for the website.

That's the most basic part of video production! That would be like trying to cook but refusing to turn on the heat to the correct level yourself.
