SanDisk 32GB microSD broken
#1 Posted 23 August 2014 - 05:04 AM
Grrr, it's not about the money to buy a new one, but the time I spent to find out what's wrong with my Raspberry Pi. Reinstalled Raspbian and updated to Jessie twice ...

Do you know how it broke? I have a 64 gb one.
I didn't buy a new one yet. Found an older 16GB SD card with an installed Wheezy and could update that one. I was lucky that it had most of my customizations applied already.
After some rethinking about what had happened and what I tried to recover the mess, there seems to be a small chance that the microSD might be OK. But it must be a really boring day on which I'd dig into it again.

If you were using it as a hard disk then they aren't designed to be used that way. Flash memory has a defined number of read-write cycles. Those mini SD cards are made for saving and transfering photos. If you hammer them by using them with constant data transfer rates, they are going to give up the ghost a lot faster. Granted, everyone who messes with homebrew systems uses them that way, but don't make a fuss that it breaks when it won't do what it's not designed to do.
Also, how long have you had it? If it's less than a year old, return it. SanDisk are very good about replacing their stuff under warranty.

Or if you want to learn something about tech by actually doing something rather than just reading technet.

I could fuck with a piece of hardware that doesn't blow goat dicks instead of reading TechNet.
Not profitable.
