Bombshell

I'm with you Mickey C. Countdown timers, delays and teases should have no part in anything 3D Realms related ever again.

Since Interceptor's basically the publisher this time couldn't they determine when they announced this, at least the second time around? The Mass Destruction thing was out of their hands, but why did they pull the trigger on that second countdown?

It's clearly a rush job. They even misspelled their Twitter handle.

I do really feel sorry for them because of this whole lawsuit mess, but I will give it to them, they have balls and I hope they succeed, but it remains to be seen whether they have balls of steel and I think they are going to need them.

Well I don't feel sorry for them. Business is business, and entertainment is no exception.

But I do hope they will make this game with Bombshell. I like her, prolly because I could not watch the trailer, or because I am a pervert, or I don't follow the crowd or she really has potential.

RoTT was a disgrace. There was a really fun game there under all the initial problems and I am a forgiving guy if a buggy game is really good, but that was unplayable for me, I never went back to it because of the horrible initial experience, I might some day.

RoTT had two biggest problem. Performance was absolutely crap and most of the map have barely any room to maneuver, consider the player movement speed. Let's hope Bombshell isn't gonna suffer any of those.

As for people complaining about Top Down view, I don't think it's bad at all. TD view games can work extremely well if you provide incredible easy to use editor(I mean very easy to use editor that even 10 yrs old kid can master it in just few days), co-op, plentiful action and difficult combat. Good example? Look at Tapan Kaikki game. Easy editor, Co-op, plentiful action and difficult combat.

that trailer was meh.
but the screenshots look great.. let's see how the game turns out. we will see - after rott i'm still glad that the license is not in interceptors hand. no offense.
however i'm no hater - only a duke fanboy - bombshell is kinda badass and i'm glad that intercepter has found an ip now :)
btw.. do we know for a fact that gbx isn't developing a duke game at the moment?

I don't find any clues/rumors about Gearbox Shovelware ever announced anythings about they did developing anythings related Duke after DNF and the "on-hold-forever" of remake (DN3D:Reload). I only know they did announced about other games with new IPs and a BoA game, just no sign of Duke.

Just lost all of my hope about Gearbox ever try to make Duke games at all.

Image of sarcastic picture about RotT 2013's instant-death traps and lack of manual saving.

Well, at least now they had tried, but...no, it's still far to worked at all.

Whoever try to do games like RotT 2013, please stop using the goddamn Unreal engine for god's sake. :)

Some thoughts about this:

The obvious part: Interceptor started making this a Top Down shooter with Duke Nukem on it because of some law inconsistencies? / confussion? / another unknown reason, they named it. Then Gearbox came and told them to take out every copyrighted piece owned by them. Also Interceptor bought 3DRealms, probably as a legal movement. (Which is the best thing that could have happened) They replaced Duke Nukem with Bombshell as the main character, then renamed the game.

Suming it up, imo Interceptor would not have made a top down shooter in the first place if they hadn't put their hopes on a new Duke game. But with no Duke at all you still have a top down RPG game and an empty shell to fill (no pun intended) :)

So this is kind of a mess, Interceptor didn't make the correct moves before. I'm for sure they would liked to work on a FPS more than a Top down shooter if they had been able to decide and not putting their hopes on an already copyrighted IP.

At this point, anyway, I do believe using Bombshell is the best movement they could do for the new game whilst putting a new counter in the page the worst; you know, the hype, no gameplay at all, the rushed trailer, etc..

About Bombshell character design, I don't like that gigantic and not stylized robotic arm but what cracked me the most is the lack of feelings, come on even one could see the angry on Duke's face, hope it is trailer's rush job fault and not an actual feature... think about it is she both Bombshell and the scraped out Duke's gay (lesbian) robot mate? ;)

Nevertheless, as Gambini said this is the best that could have happened to the franchise, looking at the state of things.

On the other hand as Micky C pointed out, Interceptor should redefine his marketing strategy, unless they want the Duke Nukem curse boulder to keep rolling...

Again, these are only opinions...

Oh and by the way the president was already a woman before Duke was removed, isn't it obvious? :)

Yeah...our election record has hardly been stellar. We had a warmonger for a while, now we've got the Tories who want to privitise pretty much everything ever for 'austerity' purposes (whilst themselves and all their buddies still being rich as fuck of course) whilst villifying as much of the underclass as possible (Jobless, immigrants, the disabled .etc .etc)

anyways, boy that Bombshell right? She does look sorta like Charlize Theron (That is never a bad thing)

This thread has gone some weird freaking places.

It really disturbs me just how quickly we ran out of things to talk about regarding the content and character. Just boom, out of gas.

Doesn't she, though? I mean in the face at least. it struck me pretty much the moment I saw her. I'm wondering if that was intentional or just coincidental?

Only a bad-ass(or bad-shitty) looking teaser/trailer with only one in-game screenshot for this game, it's not surprising at all. :)

Hell, we carried on for hundreds of pages when the DNF 2007 teaser broke.

If there will be editing tools and stuff and with the hires sounds from DN3D available, I am sure this community can turn this into a nice and fine DN game.

Interceptor gave the betas and sources of old Duke (and 3DR) stuff to the community ... hey, why not give Interceptor a Duke game then?

Too bad this one is NOT Duke at all. :)

I'm starting to feel so sick when I see new games using the Unreal engine... Because it always pissed me off for some reasons...like can't do proper quicksave or something... :)

Maybe, but I hope Interceptor guys should be seriously careful doing something about this game, since they just screwed up on first impressions with such silly hyping actions shit... ;)

Well, unless they're loving to do those shit and don't care at all.

Bad thing for modern games, doing too many details on graphics and weird aesthetics, but nothing else beside them.

Well, the engine itself do not have serious problems with me, but since I'm not a fan(with some hates :)) with Checkpoint-style saving system(I don't know if old Unreal 1/2 engine had quicksave related limitations like Unreal 3/SDK, but were not a fan of Unreal series so...whatever), also too many games use this engine made me feel tired...

Welcome to correct me if I'm wrong on something...:)

Nobody for example complained or send aut C&D notes when there was the Duke Nukem pack for SS3.

Someone makes a voice pack
Someone makes a model pack
Someone makes a few levels, others even more

And then someone collects it and put it on the web. :)

If the enemies, weapons, gameplay, levels (face it, you can't really make a Duke map in a Serious Sam game) are completely different, and the only thing that's really changed is a model and some one-liners, then they're probably not going to mind so much.

However I have a feeling Gearbox is already pissed off at 3DR, Interceptor, and Mass Destruction/Bombshell game with its "coincidental" similarities to the Duke universe. You can just bet Randy is sitting somewhere, rubbing his greasy mitts together just waiting for someone to slip up, to cross that thin line that does in fact turn it into a Duke game. They'll be following this game closely.

There's a picture online of Randy Pitchford sitting on a toilet taking a dump so you could say that he did infact take a serious shit on the Duke Nukem franchise.

Nothing happened to Gearbox did it? I mean as far as I'm aware 3DR is the only one that's been negatively effected by the latest law suit.

If there is an editor I will get this game and see what I can do ... without announcing anything in public or so. Not even in a private forum. Just via PMs.

From the website:

Q: Will you release modding tools?

A: Of course. We’ve all been part of a dedicated fan community at one point or another. We know what it’s like to want to create content. We believe in our community, and we never underestimate their ability to create new stuff, which is key to the success of any game. We are big supporters of modding tools and we strive to release them for every game we make.

I hear half life has a cool engine with modding tools, and an editor. I even know an open source version of that engine Xash 3D, I think someone mentioned Wolfram earlier, there is also this Quake remake. I recommend someone who is willing to do all the work of bringing Duke to a new engine maybe they start looking there. I mean bombshell is a year away, at best, so why not practice :)
