In the spirit of 90s gameplay and BUILD interactivity surely toilets are still able to be used...so like does she sit down or is she so hardcore that she cocks up a leg? It must be known.

Well she couldn't just walk into the mens bathroom because that would be rude, but if there just happen to be a crack on the wall that is in the womens bathroom that could be blown up with some kind of explosive that would allow her to go into the mens bathroom...

Back in my horror mod there was a point where toilets acted as a kind of restore point, but mostly as the result of a joke between me and a friend about how the character would likely piss themselves otherwise. It was ultimately dropped as development moved on.

The code survived though and was used in another project I never finished due to that also having a female lead.


It was relatively easy to implement so I'd imagine the same rules would apply to Bombshell for the most part, it consists of;
> Timer to make sure the player can't just piss constantly. Doesn't wait as long as it should though as it's currently broken, it's quite funny running back only for the code to execute for like one second.
> Force the player into first-person mode. Mostly as no animations for this existed and likely never would as that would be pointless. Could have used the regular sitting animation but meh.
> The player is interacting with an invisible "BOG_MARKER" which can, of course, be placed on sinks, walls, people's faces, etc...
> Turn the player around to match the angle and height of that marker sprite. Would have liked to slow this down, the "turn and sit" is way too fast there.

Edit 2: Haha, I've made some really stupid stuff before now. We've had a grass cutting simulation in Build, so how about a first person toilet simulator? It would have everything, cistern refill time, blockages, potential intrusions. Might have to try that some day if I am extremely bored, random explosion chances and all.

Use toilets as checkpoints. If you die and your latest save is older than the previous toilet you visited, you restart from there.

Nah, far from it and whilst it still is, I was bored enough to spend 20 minutes improving it. Also, who mentioned urinals? I took that idea onboard.



What on earth have I created!? This is horrible!
I fixed the turn & sit code, fixed some of the additional modes, spilled water on my floor whilst recording a sound effect - yeah, umm, I decided to do this after the results of my initial internet search, seriously, just don't - and that's about it. The audio timing and the lockplayer timer are a little out, but I'm not fixing them. Just think, this was going to be a grand Sci-Fi mod before the hard drive failure, now it's just an unpleasant joke. Oh, well, at least it provided me a few laughs if nothing else.

On a serious note though, this is how I envision such a feature should behave, with some refinement. As the view mode is forced to first person, you can't see anything so it can't really be seen as vulgar, I mean The Sims gets away with this on a much larger scale and they sell that to twelve year old girls without anyone batting an eyelid. Might be worth having legs and feet in shot if you look down I guess, but it's not really important.

If I were going to develop my code further I'd add the capability for the controller actor to detect if its target toilet is broken and repair a problem with height enforcement when the turning code runs. What the hell's next? Period mode? Yeah, you know what, I'm done with this, make of it what you will, I'm going to go and rock uncomfortably in a corner until I pass out.

Played some Bombshell the last couple of days. Post patch it is actually alright. The game is fun...the character of Bombshell is terrible. The writing and the game take every possible chance to remind you that she's a woman in the worst possible ways...dialogue that would generally be straight forward forces itself to mention that yes. you are in fact a woman! Not to mention the PMS Cannon and the Maxigun...the game is not bad...it would be a fun game of reasonable quality if it was $20 but god damn is Bombshell terrible as a character. Lines that say things such as 'Time to go where no robot armed woman has ever gone before!', 'I'm not into raiding tombs like some other woman I know', her talking to her arm that has AI 'make it a female voice' and then goes on to mention about a dozen times how being a woman was the right choice for whatever reason...random shots in other characters dialogues that mention that yes, she is in a fact a woman.

I have no issues playing a woman in a game. Some of my favorite characters in film and TV are women. The difference here is that those other movies, games and tv shows don't take every possible chance to reference that the character is a woman. I don't remember Sarah Connor fighting the Terminator and saying 'You'll never stop this woman!' 'Just be glad I'm a woman!' 'Time to do something no woman has done before' and you know why? Because it doesn't fucking matter. This game plays like the developers thought they were doing something mindblowing but instead managed to take the worst parts of try hard female empowerment you would see in movies put together by executives trying to target that demographic and ram it into every single line in the game. More Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley less try hard tweeny bullshit which is what the character of Bombshell comes off as. This is not a bad game but it is over priced and the character is dogshit. It could have been gone but whoever wrote this ruined any chance of that.

Gameplay wise - mostly good
Graphically - actually really nice
GUI - pretty good
Character - fucking awful dogshit who wrote this shit
Price - lolgasm....this is a top down shooter...$40? nah more like $15 or $20. Rad Rodgers and Rise of the Triad were priced properly why isn't this?

What about that bit at the end of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King where the evil guy goes "No man can kill me", and the princess takes her helmet off and says "I am no man" Posted Image

I get what you're saying though. Are all of her lines that long? The vast majority of Duke's one-liners are around the 4 word mark on average "Ooo that's gotta hurt", "damn I'm good", "Groovy", "Go ahead, make my day". Certainly not full-length sentences. You could argue that 3DR was trying to progress that aspect of character usage into something new, but by the sounds of things the experiment has failed.

I can imagine this particularly being the case if many of those lines are repeated on a regular basis. When you get down to it, Duke's one liners are pretty damn rare. In terms of killing enemies, you literally have to blow them up for the chance of Duke to say something, and even then it doesn't always happen. Regular kills don't cut it, so the phrases aren't overused.

See that just comes off as cool instead of try hard. Bombshell takes every possible chance to remind you that you're playing as a woman and they do such a bad job of it that it ends up being distracting and takes away from the fun parts of the game.

This is more just dialogue in the game. As far as one liners go she doesn't say much...thank God because in the initial release of the game they had lines such as 'How many aliens does it take to screw in a light bulb? None because they're all dead' and no...that is not a joke. It was really in the game and you got to hear it constantly when you killed enemies.

It isn't a problem with repetitious oneliners...they patched that out. no really. they patched that out. One liners during action aren't that common after the patches. It's more the dialogue throughout the game when she interacts with other characters or has any real chance to talk she mentions that yes she is in fact a woman. The equivalent would be if the next Duke Nukem game had him walking around saying 'I'm going to save the world...after all IM A MAN!' 'Hey guys can you get this portal open...a man needs to save the day!' It'd be just as forced and just as terrible. In Bombshell it's just the character itself pointing out damn near constantly as if to remind you as if you'd gone blind and had sudden amnesia that you're playing as a woman.

When Interceptor went bankrupt administrators took ownership of Bombshell source code. They need to negotiate to get it back before they keep working on it but as the IP is owned by 3D Realms the BUILD FPS is still happening.

It's pretty hilarious how damn slow Interceptor was in everything from releasing patches for modern games to getting out beta demos and articles for historic games, in all cases having the content taken away from them before completion Posted Image
