Gametrailers Tv: Dnf Minorly Mentioned

In the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Host Geoff Keighley chats with Take 2 president Christoph Hartmann about Mafia 2 and 2K games. Near the end of the interview Geoff asks Christoph whether or not Duke Nukem forever will be making an appearance soon. Below is a rough transcript I compiled of that particular part of the interview:

Quote

GK: And Duke Nukem forever maybe coming back one day too?
CH: One day, who knows? I mean you should ask the guys in Texas, It’s really their decision.
GK: They came out and showed it to you didn’t they? In January?
CH: Uhh, Not really they came out and we meet occasionally, you know we’ve came over the years of having our ins and outs , but became really good friends and share a passion which is making great games,
GK: I know George he’s...
CH: He definitely is a character and every minute I enjoy being with him. Sometimes they come down, Sometimes we go up so don’t read too much into it.
GK: So one day it might come out?
CH: I’m sure it will ship one day when/if it’s ready, and then George will put it out.

GK= Geoff Keighley (host)
CH= Christoph Hartmann (president)

So it is pretty much just standard talk and speculation. One thing I like about Geoff Keighley though is that he pressures his guests into actually providing some information instead of us hearing the same PR bullshit we hear every day. He does this by actually asking the tough questions.

One thing we do know though is that George's latest visit to 2k was nothing special or out of the ordinary. I'm not surprised Hartmann didn't say much. I'm sure he doesn't want another "Take 2 needs to STFU" remark from George.

It's interesting how a few years ago George said "Take 2 Needs to STFU IMO" but the Take 2 president is so polite when he talks about George.

No offense to George, but this goes to show how different people can be on opposite end of the social manners spectrum (among other things...).

Well, to be fair Christoph is the president. He's the so called "suit". So, he knows how to behave publicly in that situations.

Dude, the "Take 2 Needs to STFU IMO" thing was several years ago in response to very specific and particular circumstances and was IMO fully justified. But leaving that question aside, it is an unfair generalization of George's behavior.

If you say so. ;)

BTW Lotan, George is the president of 3DR isn't he?

Maybe Yatta spoke with experience, the conversations he has had with mr. George Broussard? Maybe, just maybe.

But yes, that whole small tidbit was fun, is fun, but didn't tell us anything. I guess we are used to that when speaking of DNF

Yes, but 3DR is a small private company.

Says more about George Broussard than Christoph Hartmann, because expressing yourself in a mature manner should be the rule, not the exception (especially that high up on the company ladder).

I rather like the little half-unprofessional ways the people at 3DR (and id Software for that matter... At least thier past)... They're not all businessmen with ties and formal terms stuffed in thier mouthes... I think it's what makes them different from most other companies, most of them having gotten too big to have any personality at all (EA), and now consist of nothing but a round table with 20 thousand lawyers, 2 million managers, and 5 million programmers and artists to make big money on something they just licensed from a movie or old novel...

There's never a word from "that cool level designer" who did something awesome and deserves awesome credit and praise, or "that awesome artist" who made the outstanding unique art for "X" projects...

In other words, i can't see Ubi-soft having a BBQ party or celebrating it with silly photos after shipping a game... And i don't think the newer companies seem to have any personality either, it's just nothing but money, sueing each others, and adding lame DRM systems on discs to make consumers angry etc...

What a useless post i just made, blah..

The "I'm just a gamer like you guys vs the suits" sales pitch that especially GB champions doesn't impress me at all, I'd rather see a bit more professionalism in both words and actions.

Less "Take2 should STFU IMO", more "Take2, here's the RC".

If they would actually developed something with that kind of attitude... So far, they haven't. 1997 is an ancient history. Industry is so much bigger now. Well, at least they've recognized the fact that George needed sub-managers.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer but does anyone else think that this game may never come out. I mean I know he couldn't say much about it (obviously) but lets do a what if. What if what he is saying is true and he honestly hasn't seen the "progress" that 3dr has made and he honestly doesn't know if DN4 is going to come out. Does this worry anyone else?

The thought did cross my mind but then again it has been crossing my mind for the past ten years.

Christoph's choice of words have made fans like us get an extra bit of doubt about the game into our heads. I seriously thought that George taking the game to Take 2 was a massive step in the development process. Seems like it was just a regular occurrence with nothing out of the ordinary. I hope those words were all nothing but PR bullshit though.

And George almost dies of the swine flu...so...something COULD happen that might kill DNF in the end.

Yes but have you considered that his death might be good for DNF? They could replace him with effective management for a change. ;)

"Hopefully we don't crash. If so expect a slight delay on the game."

Yeah I remember that.

But it'd be a short-term delay. With him alive, we have a long-term delay.

BTW, I'm just kidding. I'd never wish death on someone over a game.
