Daily Dnf Rant Thread Part 2 "Rants about DNF and its development go here."
#121 Posted 17 July 2013 - 05:56 AM
Gearbox attitude was too ambitious/arrogant to begin with, like: "Guess who finally got the license and who will turn the game into the most awesome Duke game ever released, putting in all these little things that fans will love so much?" It could only fail like that. The saddest part is that it repeated on a similar scale with Aliens: Colonial Marines, where people got a considerably different game compared to what was promised in trailers before.
Anyway, as of now it appears the only game that can inherit Duke3D is... Duke3D. Let's keep modding the sh*t out of it, without stupid restrictions or C&Ds! \o/

I had no clue about anything, still don't, but ...
Here is still hoping RotT 2013 will issue an editor.

For a while, I felt this way. Then Blood Dragon was released and scratched the itch DNF didn't. I also bought Megaton Edition and I finally played 'Duke It Out in DC' and 'The Birth.' I recently played Manhattan Project for the first time too so I feel like that gap has been filled. I still will buy the next Duke game if it's good, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
Playing DNF with the dialog turned off during most cut scenes, and skipping a few levels makes it close to a decent game.

i'm pretty sure it must help, but DNF has so much awful gunplay that even if it was a 100% all the time action it would still be lacking. Those people actually managed to make duke look and play boring.

Disagree, Desert Eagle fits Duke better (louder and more powerful than the M1911). =P
Serious Sam 3 handgun > SS1 handgun BTW.

If Duke Nukem was a Modern Military Shooter with focus on realism it would make sense, but everything you said is totally irrelevant in a game where the protagonist carry a heavy and innacurate machine gun as his main weapons (the ripper). If the Desert Eagle is a Hollywood gun, Duke Nukem is a Hollywood character anyway.

Has nothing to do with Modern Military Shooters. They don't get the facts right anyway. He's inspired by big Hollywood action stars, yes, but that's a bit of a difference. He also has a particular taste. The M1911 is a far more effective weapon. It's also an American made weapon.
I wouldn't really consider the Ripper his "main" weapon either. He has a shotgun displayed in his casino, and his pistol in the Duke Cave.

Dude, you got the thread wrong. It's the DNF RANT thread. Go be positive about the game somewhere else. This forum only accepts losers who have become emotionally scarred after waiting 14 years for this stupid game.
EDIT: I'm only playing, DavoX.
EDIT 2: Ya'll have no sense of humor.

Agree on the M16, totally fits Duke for me. Tbh any other ar-15 style rifle/carbines such the M4/m4A1 would also be great in Duke's hands. That war picture of him with one m4 carbine in DNF's apartment level made me realize that. However as also a ripper fan I think both can co-exist. Make the m16 a more manageable full-auto but accurate weapon (could be on the '3' as well along the winchester defender) and make the ripper a bit like the chaingun from brutal doom, insane powerful and ammo hungry with huge recoil.

The ripper could coexist with the M16 if we use Interceptor's incarnation of it. It's like a belt-fed light machine gun with a huge box of ammo attached under the weapon; that way we could have the Ripper fed by an ammo belt containing 75 rounds and we could have the M16A4 fed through a 20rd box magazine and being capable of firing only in semi-auto or a 3-rd burst. That way both weapons would have their own roles, the Ripper would a lightweight machinegun, kinda like the M249SPW and the M16A4 would be the assault rifle.

One thing that got me recently was the recent faux news item about HL3. One of the voice actors was going on that HL3 isn't in production as they can't get the mocap to do what they want. He used an example that with mocap, you can't have heads turn to face a character*. It just reminded me of the awful scenes in DNF where the President is ranting on at you for breaking up his little love-fest with the Cycloid Emperor. No matter where I stood, I couldn't get the guy to actually look directly at me while he was yelling at me. It completely broke whatever kind of vibe was going on in the game. There is the President of the United States shouting at you as you've plunged the planet into an interstellar war and there you are moving in a square pattern on the floor thinking: "Hmm, maybe if I stand over here... hmmmm, no, OK, over here. No, not that either. Geez, was this one of those times where they were playing WoW when they should have been programming the animation routines?" I can see the inside of 3DRealms' office at the start of a brand new day and George going "Hey, are you going to get that problem with the head angles sorted out?" and the employee sitting down at his computer and saying "Yeah, I'm on it George, don't worry" as he's firing up Word of Warcraft. Insane.
I've been playing games for a while and I've never noticed that particular problem before.
* Like any programmer can't tell the neck bone to ignore the mocap data and rotate on the vertical axis to face point X. Complete bullshit.

I'm sure it's all bullshit anyway about the bones. It just brought back so many bad memories (*snif*).

That company?
Do you think that company will ever get off their fat arse and do something that makes people truly want to buy their product, instead of taking their chosen IP and rubbing it all over their ever-widening arse, and saying "You should be glad we even made this game this for you!" right after they hand it back to you full of pubes?
This company, I think you expect too much from them. Truly I do.

What happened? How come such a popular, iconic franchise turned into this? After so much time in the hands of clueless people (who spent too much time fapping to Half-life 2 instead of making up their own ideas for their own game), now its doomed into the hands of gearbox/2K with its' "no mod tools policy" and misconceived perception of Duke.
DNF came along, nothing changed. We're still waiting for a goddam new Duke game.
Damn it.
