Help make the Blood community a better place

I like how you call an entire community racist just because some random guy nobody even likes or cares about is throwing around the "n-word". Not to mention other fine adjectives you like to throw around to describe people you've never met or cared to get to know. You guys are just a cheery bunch aren't you?

His open racism (and I mean INCREDIBLE racism, not even shitty jokes just literally "whites are superior and all others are inferior sub-species") goes unchecked and unpunished - that says far more about your community than our one for judging it. We don't give a fuck if the rest of you guys are ok-ish people, not speaking out and getting rid of that prick is as bad as endorsing it. Nobody wants to be associated with a forum or a community that allows a white-supremacist to openly post about his views (and I actually remember somebody having a Hitler avatar at some point, probably the same guy) Can you not understand even a little how that scares normal people and fans off?

Dimebog gets a little cred. he bothered to post over here and defend his community. There are some good qualities lurking under that tolerance for hate mongering

@James: I can understand only too well. And fair enough. If it makes you feel better, we actually took action and will make sure it doesn't continue. It's what caused all this drama to begin with. People are just somewhat less sensitive on our boards and you won't see 10 pages of people jumping at someone's throat for saying bullshit like that. You wouldn't believe what kinds of objectionable material we had to deal with in the past.

It still doesn't change our views on the liberty of expression. I don't care if you believe me or not. Racism is offensive to most civilized people, but say, not any more than I could find offensive that someone tells me to eat a dick. I take it pretty well though. Punishing that person in order to make ourselves feel better won't change their convictions though.

if you're punishing people to make yourselves "feel better", then you're doing it for the wrong reason

Keep in mind we got a guy in the post thread right now who's still complaining that his anti-semitic avatar was removed.

he can complain all he wants, he's still here to complain. there was no punishment, basically a cease and desist was issued

some members of the forum were offended by its racist implications, the forum policed itself, the situation was remedied based on moral and ethical standards of the general population

for some people a joke is no longer a joke when you start wearing it on your sleeve

Every time you get handed a shovel, Commander, you go and dig your own grave.

Pathetic, really.

it's boring

feels like you're trying too hard to be edgy, offensive, and funny with a joke that's long past its expiration date

Perfect way of describing it. We tried to convert him, but The Commander's soul is far too corrupt at this point. We don't know if he'll ever repent.

I'm sorry, but I've never played Blood that much. Was it really that big of a franchise/game? I mean no one has ''that kind of memories'' of it, like they have with Duke or Doom for instance. I am not old enough to have experienced a release btw. so kind of serious question.

People absolutely have "that kind of memories" of Blood. Blood's amazing! For me, it's tied with Duke 3D and Doom as my favorite shooter. It has a wonderful atmosphere, incredible weapons and a fun protagonist. Nostalgia isn't the reason people are really interested in seeing the game re-released in some form. It's a fantastic game.

What do you mean by big franchise? That's obviously not emblematic of quality, right? Besides, Blood was well-received critically and sold enough to warrant two expansion packs and a sequel.

Blood probably suffered a great deal from its timing; I just looked up the game's release date and I was surprised to see it's actually a month younger than Redneck Rampage, it sure doesn't look it.
In an era where some people were already criticising Duke Nukem 3D for using old school technology when Quake was around the corner, releasing a Build game in '97 (after the Voodoo 1 and GlQuake) was rather risky.

As for my personal opinion, I've cared even less for Blood than for Shadow Warrior.
Similar to that game, I like some of the weaponry (especially the flare gun), but the rest is just boring, ugly design with a setting that doesn't interest me.
It's got bags of attitude, but that alone doesn't make a game.
At least it's better than Rise of the Triad, but then again...

I learned these games from my older brother. He never played Blood, neither did any of his friends. I mean he heard about that ''fork''-game, but it wasn't at the Duke hype. For me, after I played it, it wasn't really that ''cool'' a game. I think the hype is because of the source code, isn't it?

Pretty ironic with the elitism against Hendricks, when eternal september provided by oldwarez sites of the 00's is the fuel for the Blood fanbase.

If Blood's fans were truly loyal and productive, Transfusion (the only legally cleared porting project) would be done by now. They had amazing progress up until 2002....

Unless someone actually gets balls and leaks it.

Fucking Atari! What If Atari issues a C&D order against the creator of Blood XL? This is the reason why VG corporations suck nowadays. They (the corporations) don't give a shit a/b what gamers want. Forcing us to play nowadays games that are lame and letting great classics fade into obscurity.

Yep. Which is why I hope indie developers only receive a marginal level of success and never grow into a large company. I fear for Mojang in this regard. Luckily, if they do turn evil or are acquired by a larger company down the road it won't happen for a while.

Why does Blood have the worst community ever? Every time I go on that place to lurk it's just outta control.

This is actually a little unfair, as despite their claims they are far from the only "definitive" Blood group or website out there. Other places such as the Blood Thirsters group on DeviantArt, the Blood Wiki, or the Transfusion Forums (which despite their claims still exist and have active posters, even if the project itself is dormant) are much more open and friendly to newcomers, and do not go after or bully those that disagree them the way that some members (although to be to fair to them not all) of The Postmortem so often do. Do not paint us all with the same brush, even though the Postmortemites do try and claim that they are the only ones still around due to their massive victim complexes.

You at least have to commend the Commander for not caring what anyone thinks of him.

On the contrary, that is exactly the attitude problem that taints places like Duke4 and Postmortem; "I'll post anything and everything I like without regard for anyone else and that makes me special - Freedom of Speech, yo!".

You're the whiniest person on here. Who cares what you think? It's not like you post anything valuable to make up for it.

the more you keep whining about the commander, the more he's going to keep posting whatever it is that bothers you.

why? those are not his personal convictions, he couldn't give a shit one way or the other, he does it 'cause it bothers you ar-tard

i cannot see how you do not understand that by now

I can't think of a single good post from X-Vector. Not one. I can't say that about anyone else.

All he does is whine about minutia that doesn't matter, or other people.

Lol. It's just a tagline, you know what those are? Despite what you might think, Posty is nowhere near complete or definitive and I don't love McDonalds or drink Coca-Cola on a daily basis. I don't know what your problem with the site is, but instead of coming up with random claims of "statements" that do not even exist, you should perhaps help us by telling what is the problem you're having so it becomes fixable.

I also want to point out that all Blood related fan games and other projects like that are not allowed on Transfusion, which I don't see as a healthy development for a community centered around such projects.
