SteamOS "Guess who's involved?"

One of the requirements is a UEFI PC which I don't have. boo.
Oh, and Plagman is apparently heavily involved in SteamOS's development. Very interesting....

SteamOS wants a whole harddrive for its own... so maybe I pick one in my PC for it later.
I'm not so curious atm, but I like the idea.
Gaming on Linux is something I'm realy looking forward to and Valve got the power to push things up.
Hopefully that they will cause a major change in Linux on desktop with that...

Oh deary me, I do wish Plagman would get Polymer working on my Radeon. 'Tis a shame such a beastly card gets choked by a game old enough to drive.

I could say the same about you and your ludicrous initial post on this thread, wherein you chose not to explain why it was pointless. In any case, this isn't a widespread release of SteamOS. If you've been paying attention to Gabe Newell, he mentioned at LinuxCON that Windows is being hostile towards PC gamers and PC users in general. SteamOS is a sort of long-term project to pick up PC gamers who are disgruntled with Windows 8 and its various irritations.

Indeed. It's not an end-all Windows replacement - it is designed for the sole purpose of video gaming, more specialized for a HTPC around the couch than it is for a desktop PC. It's not an OS I would develop stuff in.
It's fairly obvious enough. I know I wouldn't be installing it on any of my desktops, and if I ever built a tiny gaming PC for a TV and I'm not going to shell out for a Windows license for it, this is a nice alternative.

I thought it was obvious the purpose Steam OS had. Anyway, I've explained it in a recent post.

I don't see how Windows 8 is hostile towards gamers. And why then Valve even bothered with Mac at all when, as I understood, Newell's negative reaction was towards Windows Store.
SteamOS(and probably Linux client) exists solely because of Steambox. They aren't launching neither of those to help Linux gain users.

From what I gather, you can drop into a Gnome desktop, so theoretically SteamOS could be used as a basic Linux desktop, but it's obviously more geared towards HTGPC.
Regarding Win8, I wouldn't say it's openly hostile to gamers, but it does seem that hardcore gaming is being neglected.
