[RELEASE] The Edge

Hello guys.

Last week was probably the worst week in my life, so I decided to make a map. I tried to distract myself from real world as far as possible.
This map was made in one night and it doesn't have any action. The gameplay is based on exploration, your main task is to find three keys. Try not to get lost.

I thought this was going to be about Quake 2 but I am pleasantly surprised. Gonna have a look now.

Why Quake 2?

The map looks very unique judging from the pics. I'll try to have a look at it in my holidays coming up in two weeks.
I hope things are looking up for you now Eddy.

Eddy, this map looked like if Salvador Dali was making Duke 3D user maps in alternate universe. Firstly The Wall, now this... Some of your maps are much more about conveying emotional experience and atmosphere than gameplay itself, but they are in no way boring and they actually succeed in it. I greatly admire you for that, because you are showing other mappers who got bored by thinking that there is nothing "fresh" that can be made in maps, that they are wrong and there are still many new original ways in which Duke3D maps can be portrayed.

It took me approximately 20 mins but I admit that I bit overused automap. Maybe to reinforce feeling of being lost and confused and adding more challenge to it - could this be achieved by completely disabling automap?
(Question to experienced CON coders and/or Eduke32 code gurus: Is it possible to completely disable automap?)
I liked idea that each area featured different music which nicely matched and strenghtened its atmosphere.

I cant wait to see how user map rating sites like MSDN and Come get some which are used to "conventional" maps will review and rate this.

P.S. I hope you are feeling better now, I think this map worked as mental/emotional "discharge" (lacking right word) for you.

Both your creativity and the variation from standard gameplay are enjoyable. Hope things will get better for you, soon.

Thanks guys!

@t800, automap can be easely disabled by using definegamefuncname command. Setting number 38 to "-" will stop map button from working.
Glad you liked the map. Yeah, I feel better now, I think.

I would like to suggest the players to play the map without HRP, it might screw up some of the features. Also, stay away from cars.

I really liked this, though I'm usually very fond of these experimental maps as well. Not as good as The Wall (nothing is) but still a very enjoyable experience.

I enjoyed it but it was nothing special like The Wall, Sonic, or Slender Woods.
I would have enjoyed some actual puzzles, though I guess the point of this map is to have no point, so saying that would be missing the point. (I apologize for the pointless sentence)

First, let's hope things get better in your life, Eddy. That should be the most important thing.

Secondly, while checking a few places in the map, you may easily get the kind of WTF feeling.
I have played it the seemingly improper way, using the automap, eventually finding all keys (and unlocking what looks like an exit.)

It surely is good to have something which differs from the "usual" (how ever you define that) in various ways. Thanks for the map, as well as the experience!

Hope you are better Eddy. The level of introspection of this map is wonderful. I love how each room have it's own thematic axis, some of them with very deep implications I think.
Is awesome how you can use mapster to express such feelings and concepts. I really enjoy the map  Keep going
