Rise Of The Triad (2013)

I eventually got past, then on to the fire..ugh. Just beat the level now was very hard I will never go back there, I have no problem with tricky platform sections in fact I usually like them, but when you keep getting snagged on walls then falling to your doom it's frustrating. Someone please tell me it doesn't get any worse than that because I really like everything else.

Edit: After going through the change log for the update it would seem that I don't have the patch installed and I cant find it on gog there was only a 30 mb patch no 2 gig one, anyone know anything about this?

As far as I know that level is the worst. Haha, you definitely should have waited for the patch before trying it!!!!

GOG always takes a bit of extra time to get their updates ready compared to steam.

Haha, I waited for the patch to come out so I could avoid that kind of horrible shit happening to me and what do I do? I download the old update, think everything's sorted and proceed to get owned by the game, buy the end of that level, I really wanted to kill the guys who do the mocking comments every time you die...get snagged by a flag while trying to bounce and fall to your death "YOOUU SUUUUUUUK"!
I am a proper dumbass.

Exactly, me too! We die because of some of the game's crappy decisions/segments (as opposed to lack of skill), and then get mocked about it by an annoying voice. There ought to be an option to turn that off somewhere.

So are manual saves still planned for this? When it comes down to it, the game is simply too repetitive and quite frankly not good enough to put up with playing the same section more than once or twice before giving up and doing something more fun.

I got a 2.4gb update this morning just for:

* Login now supports more characters
* Ability to disable TTS (Text to Speech) in Multiplayer
* New Menu Credits with Beta Testers added
* New Ending Credits with Beta Testers added
* Paths Rebuilt in "You Mist"

And it's still not perfect. There's this square area in the cave level in episode 3 with bits of rock sticking up on the ground which is too easy to clip on. And there's this one point where you can even fall through the rock and get stuck, being forced to restart the checkpoint.

Steam doesn't support patching of files, so if a file was changed even for one byte, it would have to download it again. This whilst GOG's updater supports patching data into files.

Yeah I think they should use better encoding for the videos, or just segment them for easier updates. Someone also suggested reading the credits etc. from text files, which is a good idea, but I'm unsure if UE3 supports that.

.......seriously? Downloading 2.4GB for some hotfixes...

Valve should do something about the updates-downloading system on Steam...

Played a 4 hour session of the game for the first time last night, and I have to say I'm quite enjoying it so far. The fast pace is a nice change from modern FPS, and the checkpoints seem fairly reasonable so far, although I don't know how far apart they were in the previous versions (i.e. before 1.1). I'm currently on E3L2, and the only part that's given me grief was the E2 boss, which was frustrating even though it's fairly simple once you know what's going on. I quite like the way the music turned out as well, and it's a nice touch that you can change to the classic tunes if you prefer. Performance is fairly high for the most part (running all settings on ludicrous), but inconsistent, with the odd stuttering and frame drops in a few spots, and more often than not when there's not really much happening on screen. I can only imagine it's much more pronounced on lower range systems, causing the game to be unplayable. Hopefully the latest patch was an improvement over the initial release. Anyway, I'm liking it so far!

P.s. So what character did people choose? I went with Thi Barrett, which is probably why the running speed is even more nuts!

As you said it's really unplayable for majority of the community, sadly. However when playing on a high end pc I actually reach 250 FPS once in a while  I find the ai incredibly stupid. Mp is the fun stuff man  I hosted a server yesterday and we were around 8 guys fucking around in different maps. We had a blast!

Well, it is still a 2013 game. So PCs from 1994 won't do it anymore. Runs on Ludicrous 1920*1080 with no problems here.

The E2 boss was a stupid dodge boss and then a bullet sponge boss. Hardly frustrating pattern and I got him on my first try.

Doug still turns white when you ludicrous gib though.... and the patch resets settings and keybinds AGAIN. Had to redisable gore, pick some settings to put me slightly above 30fps, etc. This is the slowest UE3 game I have installed and it isn't even the best looking one. WTF

Also the air control is still bad and GADs are still a bitch. This is artificial difficulty at its finest...

You really want to go there? I'm running it on 120-250 FPS at my high end pc at my mums. My own pc runs bf3 and crysis at 60 max settings. Something is clearly wrong with the build in ROTT. I get around 20 FPS here. Not everyone can afford a 1000€ build pc. My pc should run this game decently.' And it doesn't. Why do you think people are complaining as much as they are? Btw I love the the game/community I'm in the steam chat most of the time, but the game has issues. Big issues. It seems as everyone with amd cards are having these problems.

It's a shame it's not as optimised as other UE3 games, as a high and consistent framerate is essential for the fast pace that this game has. Hopefully future patches will work towards rectifying these issues for the community.

P.s. Just finished the game in under 7 hours on the normal difficulty. What sort of play times are people completing the game in?

Around 8 hours was the target I think on lud. Difficulty.

Even I know my computer sucks for running this game and made me like a child when playing this game --- endless falling into the pit due low fps situations made the control so hardly, I still want the goddamn manual saving if it ever happens...

The patch doesn't overwrite all the ini files. If you're not seeing any kind of a performance boost with the patch, you should delete the existing ini files and let the game create new ones.

According to interceptor's facebook, they managed to get quicksaving to work in Rise of the Triad (with a score penalty but who cares about that). This is obviously good news.

See, it wasn't too hard. They could have saved themselves a world of hurt if they shipped the game with this feature.

 I guess it has something to do with the leader-boards and abuse then for that to have a reasoning being implemented.

Well obviously. But there are a great many people out there who don't care about things like scores. That's why I could never get into things like Pacman.

So using scores as one of the big reasons at release to not have quicksaves, it was quite infuriating.

I'm sure it would be easier to just disable leader-boards for that level if you press the quicksave button.

Stupid penalty. I'd rather have it disable leaderboards too....not that I care about leaderboards at all.

Punishing players in ANY way for quicksaving is, plainly put, nonsense - even if it is only a (possibly minor) score deduction. We are talking about a feature that should have been included at release day. At the end of the day, this is still better than not having the feature at all, but after all, the original ROTT didn't ask for a price to pay for saving.

Surely the game is a lot more difficult if you don't use quicksaves, so taking that into consideration somehow isn't too bad - it's about how it is done. An idea would be to offer the feature in the lower difficulties for free while asking for a "score fee" in the higher ones - possibly increasing depending on difficulty level, level progress and/or frequency of saving per level. I dunno if it works like this already, but in order to compensate, give players on "Easy" less score points in general and the balance in leadership boards is (or should be) maintained.

This is merely a suggestion, but from my POV this would be fine since I usually play a game for the first time on easy mode, anyway.

When the fuck are quicksaves coming? I tried out episode 4, and it's already hard enough without me dying because I fired an explosive and the door closed in front of me, and again when I fired an explosive which apparently clipped on some geometry even though the path was clear, and exploded right in front of me as well.

Well I suppose you get what pay for. And this game is CHEAP in every way. If they really are working on a Duke game, I hope they get a LOT of experience first. Some of the bigger Duke TCs out there are way more fun, and they were done by much smaller groups for free.

Are you guys forgot Serious Sam 3?
(Yeah, I know RotT 2013 is different than SS3, but what's the problem with penalty score and leaderboard? When I see a lot of weird high scores without reasons...)

And I'm not sure RotT 2013's easy mode is easy.
Still stuck at E2L4, by those jumppad shit...

How about quicksave scores having their own separate leaderboard, and leave checkpoint scores on the leaderboard they're on now? Wouldn't that be easier to implement and also be a fair system?

That would be just messy and unneeded
