Shadow Warrior (2013) Thread  "New Shadow Warrior Game Announced"

Well it's not fair to say they ruined Shadow Warrior, the original is still right there on steam for free (or Redux is pretty cheap) As long as we get a blood sourceport I don't care what they make with the IP if they actually manage to get it.

Still, it's like they're not confident enough in their own ideas to actually create something from scratch without mooching at least partially off the success of classics.

But you don't know that for sure. Their first game was completely original, wasn't it?

They'd probably slap a "System Shock 3" title on it if they could.

This is comedy gold. Too bad it's not coming to all SW owners, but if DD ask us: Do you want a giant purple dildo... I wont be able to say "Yes" with a straight face.

But seriously, I think this is just terrible. From all the ways and possibilities to make SR4 cross promo they choose dick.

Hard Reset is an original IP, but its gameplay is nothing more than a watered-down Painkiller to the smallest detail. Hard Reset even lacks a crouch button for no real reason other than that Painkiller also lacked one, and Painkiller only did that as an homage to Quake's ultra fast-paced, no-nonsense gameplay (which, incidentally, Hard Reset definitely does not have).

All of these goofy pre-order exclusive cross-promotional weapons really just makes me think that Devolver is not confident at all in the new Shadow Warrior. Perhaps they realize that "from the creators of Hard Reset" isn't going to sell units, so they're relying on the popularity of Serious Sam, Hotline Miami, Saints Row IV, and even plain old nostalgia to market Flying Wild Hog's product. All they need now is a Team Fortress 2 hat and they'll have hit the bottom of the barrel of desperation.

Is it really desperation, though? Part of the publisher's job is to run the PR train and move units. As you've pointed out, franchise tie-ins move units. I think it's more about exposing the game to a wider audience who may have never heard of it or its predecessor.

If they didn't charge $60 for a new game, I'd own Saints Row VI. I wouldn't likely opt to have a dildo sword...but it could be an incentive to people. I mean, if you dropped $60+ on Saints Row, why wouldn't you spend the $35 for Shadow Warrior for no other reason than to use a purple dildo as a sword?

I'm talking about Devolver Digital, who did a lot of Serious Sam stuff, and now Shadow Warrior and Duke, not necessarily Flying Wild Hog, although them to some extent as well. Hard Reset didn't really have anything innovating about it.

I can see this becoming troublesome for screwing the game's sale in Japan.... unless they turn it into a 'suspicious bat' but then what would be the point of the crossover DLC?

Also I don't think it's "ghey" - but I do think it's a ridiculous marketing stunt. Deep Silver/Koch is so desperate comping up with this stuff like that torso.

Deep Silver has a history of controversial marketing anyway.

Not that I care, it's just a video game.

But this game's humor is so much more mature and so much more politically correct than the dumb stupid racist humor of the original Shadow Warrior.

So this is the new age of political correctness. Can't use satire of a race but can worship a pink dick that requires no less than two games to materialize - I smell huge bula bula Posted Image

So, I was just playing the new Shadow Warrior and noticed it has quick save/load and you can disable the checkpoint system altogether.

I'm really glad it is pre-loading. This way I can play tomorrow when I get home from work and forget to eat and all that other stuff.

I suppose I might as well say that I have had early access too and well,

I think the game is great. I'm sure if you have played Hard Reset then you will notice similar things like environmental damage and just how the game/engine itself feels. The upgrade system feels satisfying instead of feeling tacked on or your weapons being too weak and having to upgrade. I'd almost say the best part of Shadow Warrior is the swordplay, you can get all these different combos to slice and dice almost any enemy you face. And speaking of that, the gore in this game is awesome in cutting enemies apart or blowing them up with the shotgun, it's not super crazy like Rise of the Triad but better. Lo Wang may have a different voice but after you start playing and hear his voice more and more, you can start to appreciate his one liners and jokes and there is plenty of dirty humour in this game.

And that's my little mini review I guess without spoiling anything. I'm up to Chapter 12 at the moment.
