Are you seriously saying that is more interesting than this? Have you guys even played these games that you're criticising so much?

I can only buy so much but when you're genuinely claiming a wolfstenein clone (back when levels were literally just grids of squares) is more interesting than fighting through a tropical resort with a spider-bot sequence and a chase sequence (that you can actually fail and has consequences in that you need to do a seperate mission to rescue her) is not as varied as that? (Try and look past that the guy who playing it isn't very good at it)

I was being genuine. Call of Duty literally interests me in no way what so ever. I generally dislike all military shooters and I want to shoot that floating eyeball thing in that "Wolfenstein" clone.

Than that's fine, and should of been said so a long time ago. I have no problems with people disliking the games due to their theme or content, and some people are just genuinely uncomfortable with shooters staged in real backdrops, which is also understandable (Black Ops' torture sequence even made me flinch a bit)

Basically this. Those who know me know that I prefer retro FPS'es and their themes a greater deal to more realistic shooters. With some minor exceptions.

I think alot of this arugment could of been avoided if you guys would of said that earlier; the issue I had however is people trying to downplay the game's importance or what it does/achieves. I have zero interest in...let's say World of Warcraft or League of Legends so I don't feel entitled to criticise them. I don't want to play them and they look dull to me but I wouldn't argue and try to deny anything about them, like how popular or influential they are. I think the same should really apply to Modern Warfare (or any realistic shooter)

if i had to choose i'd rather play corridor 7 than CoD. personal preference & nothing to do with which game is "better"
i like those wolfenstein-blake stone styled clones

Well, if it's anything like Modern Warfare 2, then it's just one big cutscene that you barely even get to control...I guess it's interesting to watch, but that hardly counts as a game. But I'm just being an ass by saying that for sure, I haven't played Black Ops 2 yet, and I don't really intend to. I'll just stick to games that I personally find interesting :lol:

Well that's as stupid as complaining about fantasy elements in an RPG.

BF3 has dozens of carbines, assault rifles and submachine guns. You'd probably consider them all more or less identical whileas anyone who actually plays those games would consider every weapon very unique. The differences are considerable once you learn the ins and outs of every weapon.

No they don't. Rate of fire or accuracy doesn't make them unique.

Hah hah, of course they do, the difference is like night & day.

And it's not "just" RPM & accuracy (whatever that means; recoil maybe?) but damage per bullet (and multipliers depending on where you hit), clip size, bullet drop, the "feel" of the weapon in your "hands", reload time, fire modes and choosing between several different attachments.

It probably takes 5 minutes for the programmers to make a "new" weapon in games like that. All it takes is to define a dozen of attributes.

If that were the case, then the programmers did an awesome job at making a data-driven weapons system. It takes much more time to make weapons feel balanced.

But I don't blindly hate CoD, so fire your negative karma clickings away like it'll change the fact that DNF was following CoD's footsteps in its final iteration since cinematic linearity level design and tracelines seem to be something you guys hate so much. If this were true CoD hate, it would be about the abusive killstreaks, hacked lobbies, the DLC practices, and Kotick's stranglehold on Infinity Ward/Treyarch/Raven - which undeniably suck, and are the parts of CoD that didn't influence other games, and they weren't even there from the beginning!

You could've analyze what made CoD series popular for multiplayer, like the ways they try to make you feel excessively gratified after every kill (rank up, unlocks and killstreaks), and the sense of individualism (playercards and emblems). Also the multiplayer map designs are heavily interconnected and often play like Quake's DM3.... OH SHIT DID I JUST REFERENCE A 1990'S GAME WITH A RELATION TO CALL OF DUTY IN A POSITIVE WAY!?

Sorry, I'm late to the party. I think what MusicallyInspired was referring to is media hype from the manufacturer trying to create a frenzy or a fad for the product. Anything from pet rocks and hula hoops to cigarettes. If you don't have it, you're not cool and your friends will leave you. The media blitz convinces the weak minded to "join in" and become part of the artificial fad created by the sellers. The rest of us see it for what it is, but many fall prey to it.

And yet such schemes fail miserably if the underlying product is bad. No amount of publicity or marketing could have turned Duke Nukem Forever or Colonial Marines into success stories. If it could have been done, it would have been done.
