This last post is exciting! If they started with almost 1000 tasks sometime recently, and they're now below 100, they should be close to finishing a major area of development (Maybe this has to do with the list George showed in an earlier update back in February). Maybe they're getting close to unveiling the game? ;)

Its kind of funny because he refers to the current milestone as being something almost done, but having had 800ish items in it. But ends it by saying that another milestone starts Monday.

So its kind of got elements that both reassure and complicate things, so in the end can't decide whether it sounds positive or negative.

From a developer's prospective, if I were talking to my bosses in this way about my projects at work, I would be saying that I had 800-900 tasks in total, and that I had 70 or so left. Personally I read this as the game being 90 or so percent done. Really great tweet, time for rejoicing. We have never before gotten so much information about state of completion.

It wouldn't make sense to say that the next milestone starts Monday, but there are still 80 tasks left on the last one. Plus, keep in mind, according to the project management screenshot he showed us, there were at one time many "mega tasks", such as probably "finish game engine", "model Duke", etc. So 800 tasks to complete a game in total sounds about right.

Also, again speaking from a developer's prospective, a milestone build at 90% completion is usually getting pretty close to a release candidate, and is probably at the very least in a very advanced beta stage.

I'd personally expect to see a full trailer very soon. I don't think they'll show anything until the game has gone gold, but I think that will be very soon.

The more I think about this, the more excited I am. Keep in mind I don't know any more than anybody else here, except to have the insight of being a developer myself, but..

I'd venture to say that a milestone at around 90% completion means they might show a trailer very soon. A "development milestone" in developer terms is a very big deal, especially at this advanced stage. You may only have a few of them in the course of the development of a single product, with "gold" being the very last one. Going by the information we have, I'd guess they're at the one before the last.

I'll elaborate more on my thoughts tomorrow when I can think a little better and it's not so late at night.

We were told years ago the bulk of the engine was basically done and they were in a technology lockdown.

Nothing they say really means anything if its short of saying the game is gold. Reports about progress don't tell you anything when there is no insight to provide you with any real idea how close they are. Saying we traveled 1000 miles today doesn't mean much if you are traveling to the moon.

Good update, but some folks are reading way too much into it. 71 of 800 tasks remaining for this milestone, another one starts Monday. There could be 20 more such milestones with 800 tasks each - we don't know.

I took it to mean that there was another PUSH starting Monday.

I don't think so. His next post says there's only a couple more tasks tomorrow to finish that milestone.

#344

Hardly a milestone if it lasts only 24 hours.

#345

It doesn't only last 24 hours. But the remaining 71 tasks of THIS particular milestone will be done in that time. The milestone started out with about 800 tasks.

I think he means 24 the TV show.
Could be wrong ofcourse, it's too vague. But that one would make the most sense.

Yes, he means 24 the tv show...
In a previous twitter post he said something about watching 24 and in this one he says 24 is on.
He is talking about the tv show 24.

The reference to "24" is obviously a reference to the TV Show. Was that what people are talking about when they mentioned 24 hours?. Sorry for contributing to that misunderstanding.

He likes 24 because that guy who plays in it looks kind of like Duke and that's who he wants to play Duke in the Duke Nukem Movie. Just guessing.

He kinda looks like Duke
I bet it's George's dream actor for Duke. ;)

And the milestone update gets me even more curiosly optimistic ;)

What does this all means?
