*3/14/2014* DNF Gearbox Downgrade Patch WIP = TESTING
#151 Posted 14 March 2014 - 08:19 PM
Nice to see this is back at least.
It's too bad you couldn't also get back the blood decals that semi-worked in the demo on certain surfaces. IMO that was something that really helped make most of the guns feel really weak, the lack of blood splatter except for that mediocre particle effect that would fall through the world.

Edit: minus unlocker, i think that is some multiplayer thing I don't think it works anymore.

In New Downgrade Patch you can choose only one Graphic mod.
My preset is better, because it disables stuff that also enabled in Shader Mod and enables other good stuff.
Also some links are outdated (thread is dead).
But you can choose better preset (or make it self) and download latest version of tool.
They can work together.
Tool (SweetFX 1.5.1):

Preset (Atecep's Nuke):

They can work together without being too slow?

Yes. Shader Mod just improves shaders. SweetFX just add some filters to image, without shader editing. You can allow only gamma correction options and videocamera effects.
I played it before and it looked awesome.

First. Only SP levels at all difficulties.

As, that's my biggest gripe with DNF.
Some levels look great, feel far more finished and polished. The opening fight in the stadium for example. That level looks great.
But, the Vegas city streets... look empty, unfinished and stitched together.
If this alien invasion is truly so devastating... why aren't there more burnt out cars, innocent victims and corpses...
Some more combat would be nice. But, they don't need to be hordes of enemies. Logically placed enemies and fights are great.
But, changes I would love to see possible in DNF... working blood decals.
Water reflections. It's horribly noticeable around the Dam. The water looks like gel instead of water.
Night time Vegas. I like the idea of initial attack happening at daytime, fight your way through the casino. Up top, blow up the alien mothership... get knocked out. Wake up and it's night.

I have the demo (PC) on a disc somewhere, it'd take ages to upload though. Australian upload speeds suck.

It's the grabbag that was used in the motorbike map in the Duke Nukem Forever 2013 DLC. If you go to the thread, I'm pretty sure the name of the guy that made it is listed there somewhere.
EDIT: Here,
The version in the video posted on the previous page and the mod DLC are in the description for the video, the music in the video itself is an older version.

Hey hey,
Quick mod that lets you get into the game a bit faster and disable the many intro movies in DNF:
Goto your DnF root folder in steamapps/common/Duke Nukem Forever
Goto the “Movies” folder
The “.bik” files are video files for Duke Nukem Forever. We’re looking for the intro videos to the game. These files are:
ESRB.bik
Dice_Intro.bik
Attract.bik
Legal.bik
What you want to do is rename the old video files and replace them with a blank text file of the same name. To do this:
Right click on one of the files listed above and click rename.
Copy the full filename to the clipboard, then append the old one with “.old” like this: “ESRB.bik.old” (you could also delete it if you really want to, but keeping it might be smarter)
Now, make a blank text document by right clicking and going to “New–>Text File”
Name this text file the same as the old bik file. Note: make sure you are getting rid of the .txt extension. It should look like this “ESRB.bik” NOT like this: “ESRB.bik.txt”
Do this to all the ones you want to disable and launch the game intro-free.
There is also a file called “Menu.bik” which is the background to all the game menus. The game doesn’t seem to care which file that is as long as it’s called Menu.bik. You can switch the names around and get alternate videos in the menu like in this screen shot:
If you wanted to get more creative, tools called the “Rad Video Tools” exist for encoding video files into the “.bik” format. Theoretically you could then use them to set the menu background to whatever video file you wanted.
Happy day.

The Site wont confirm my e-mail no matter how many times I request to send the confirmation e-mail.
I'm hoping with this and the Console I'll be able to have some fun in my diggs.
If anyone can send me a link via PM or the file itself. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it it could get you VAC banned if caught. Anyways if you want to see what a completed mydigs looks like the console patch has a savegame part to it that enables it offline.

i install and it says something about steam unable to connect error 2.
I have DLC installed for Duke and I thought that might be the reason why, anyone else having this issue?
#171 Posted 21 July 2014 - 06:21 AM
Speaking of which, is the Demo still obtainable?

Don't launch it with steam, in fact make sure steam is shut down to run it.

Wasn't there a rumour going around the Gearbox Forums that it was removed because it either included files that could "damage the multiplayer experience" (as Gearbox put it) or re-enable the console after Gearbox patched it out?

Crash Report
Any thoughts on why it is crashing?
I don't want to modify the game or access the console; I just want to play earlier versions of the game. I like to speed run DNF and I believe there are some time saving exploits that only work in the release version. Since I'm not trying to access the console or modify the game, is there a way to play the release version without the downgrader?
