Duke 2013

Yeah the problem is simply that, unlike in almost every other TC/mod out there, the cons in the grp are plainly named user.con & game.con. So the player better not have those cons in the duke3d folder.

That's exactly the way it should be done. I can even run it by simply dropping the GRP into autoload and avoid hassling with BAT files and command line parameters.

That's a bad idea anyway IMO, unless it's your own set of CONs under development. I have modified most stuff in my own map/mod/tc archive to get rid of batch files which specify custom USER.CONs which simply rename E1L1 and other (nowadays) silly stuff like that.

Weird, the included EDuke32 version doesn't work: it doesn't even go to the setup screen.

Are you running windows 7 64 bit? There was an issue with eduke32 on that OS around the time of this release. It's since been fixed, but boy were CK Games and Co. unlucky with including that version. Including eduke32 unnecessarily bloats the file size anyway.

Mikko, download the latest version here http://www.eduke32.com/ Posted Image

I had the same problem too, untill I realized the Duke3d grp was also needed in the same directory. The con errors went away, and the map loaded fine.
My only gripe is the controller configuration in the new Eduke is a mess. I'll have to address this problem in the proper thread.

Enjoyed the map, a bit short though: http://msdn.duke4.net/hotduke2013.php

Btw, this is an old issue but apparently some Polymer lights don't get displayed here. For example, I never saw the light that's visible in the first screenshot of this topic.

I never use the autoload method. It's not even explained anywhere so it'd be a huge mistake to assume that casual usermap players are familiar with the method. (And the oldskool crowd is even less likely to use such "modern" methods to launch mods.) It's simply irrational to name (or rather leave them unnamed) your cons so that they interfere.

Lovely! I kept grinning from ear to ear while playing this. It has everything that makes a good usermap, and then some more: nicely done custom effects, a soundtrack that keeps you in the right mood, and great new one-liners! If I had to criticize something, it'd be the boss which I found to be not entirely fitting. Also, I'd make Duke speech somewhat louder -- it can get lost in the heat of battle.

Spot lights were disabled on ATI a while ago since Catalyst 12.8 was choking on them. The recent 12.10 appears to have this fixed, so I enabled them again.

I'm a latecomer, I've just played it only today.
That was beautiful, I regret not to have come earlier to see it.
I really like the ambiance, especially the theatre and sounds which were convincing. I'll keep this one in my small collection, on my HD !
Many thanks Eddy (and also the two other guys), you have a great style !

That's very good, I would have guessed Eddy. Your work has come a long way from those bland, undetailed shots you first showed on the forums last year Posted Image

Yeah, CK games made the theatre scene. Me and Lezing later added some details.

i could just see this if it was done for Nuclear Winter. but this mod is so cool. the Duke2013 map is great. and the christmas Duke one-liners done by VinsaneOne are perfect. i like when you pick up a weapon like say, an RPG. and he says "how's this for a stocking stuffer?"

Wanted a solid christmas map today so I went looking for this, not remembering the name. Had a hard time trying to find it, you'd think for a christmas themed map it would have the word "christmas" somewhere in the title, but alas it has a name that might be confused with Duke Nukem Forever 2013.

Finished it, killed all enemies, missed one secret, 8 minutes and 40 seconds. Wow that was a fun ride, and I didn't remember those mini pig cops spawning confetti so that was a nice surprise Posted Image
Also can't get enough of the new one liners "looks like you won't be home for christmas" Posted Image

I recommend this map (again) to others who want to experience christmas in Duke 3D. If you want the polymer lights, use one of the 64-bit eduke32s like I did which allows a much smoother framerate (I was above 50 most of the map, dropping to about 25-30 in the final area, using my screen's max resolution).

Really nice map call me impressed I love polymer maps in general very nice, also nice work on the parallax sky's

I'm having trouble wrapping my head around how to use them properly for different hights, and avoided them until just recently.

I didn't notice the exploding effects, I'll look closer next time I play, gotta love the grp setup it doesn't mess with your base game and is super easy to run.

Side Note: I think Gearbox used your pistol sound for thier World Tour videos /JK : ;)

Very fun map! And thanks for the bump so I didn't miss it.

Any credits for that fun christmas instrumental rock medley song used? The txt file doesn't mention it.
