My GOTY of the year is Rise of Triad. And that has nothing to do with being the Game Designer and Director on it :)

Blood Dragon is my GOTY so far, don't NOT get it because of ROTT! <-- Bad marketing :)

Oh I will get it eventually, but I figured i'd show my love to Apogee first, since I love that damn logo.

Blood Dragon was a disappointment, extremely repetitive.

Oh yeah, you're totally not biased AT ALL. Mm-mm. No-way no-how.

Oh, I only played it 20 minutes or so and found it boring (gameplay wise). That means the boredom* stays the same until the end?

*) Personal opinion, ofc

BD was alright, but a fair few people had performance issues on PC that, as far as I currently know, haven't been fixed yet. Hopefully the post-release support for ROTT will be far better.

The whole game is pretty much the same all the way. The music was pretty nice though.

Lightsabers were yesterday, the Excalibat is TODAY! \o/

That looks like we might get a game with a multiplayer that actually deserves its name again. Straight-forward, simple, fun. Just makes me drool for it even more. :)

I really hope this to be what DNF should have been, and I don't think you guys will disappoint since you didn't just say "omg omg, it's gonna be so awesome, just wait", you also told (and showed) us WHY. And I want to believe.

I bet Dopefish was the first asset for the new game they created. The rest was just built around it piece by piece. That's how da Dopefish likes it.

I just noticed that The Apogee Throwback Pack was updated to include MP3 renderings of the ROTT 95 soundtrack. That's good. But then I noticed that these were recorded with the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, which basically amounts to opening the MIDI files in Windows Media Player and recording the output. That's bad.

Windows' default handling of MIDI files is crap and shouldn't be used to represent ROTT. Lee Jackson used the vastly superior Roland Sound Canvas MIDI module to compose the soundtrack back in the day. If you want to hear what that sounded like, Duke4's own MusicallyInspired has recorded the original ROTT MIDIs with a real Roland SC-55 and posted the results here. The difference in quality should be a very obvious night and day, and it's leagues more accurate (if not identical) to the sound module Lee composed with. Put simply, this is how the Rise of the Triad soundtrack was meant to be heard. I hate to sound melodramatic, but the ROTT 95 soundtrack currently released by Interceptor is a bit of a disservice to Lee's work. I hope this can be fixed, but unfortunately, the Windows GS Wavetable Synth rendition has already been used in the God Rest, Ye Deadly Gentlemen remix (this was pointed out in the comments, to which Terry Nagy curiously rebuked) and I suspect that these are the versions that will be used in the remake in the advertised Classic Mode sound option.

I'm absolutely looking forward to Andrew's new rendition of the soundtrack, but I humbly request that you please don't skimp when it comes to Lee's original compositions. If there was a time to do justice to Lee's soundtrack, there would be no better opportunity than now.

I just hope they can use whatever soundfont for them but not the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth... maybe in some rarely cases, it's not that bad but in mostly cases....oh just throw that one away please... :)

Pre-ordered! Going by the videos, the movement speed, secrets and gibs are reason enough to be really excited. Thanks to living in NZ, ROTT won't unlock until August 1st for me. Three weeks and counting!

That's a good point. I bought the game over steam. GOG's ROTT page lists the release as July 31st so it could launch earlier there.

It says the 1st here too but on Steam it will all unlock at the same time. The GOG version will probably unlock earlier.

With all the talk about "classic" FPS this week, we think it's about time we finally reveal something we teased a LONG time ago. The Rise of the Triad Classic Level Editor!

That's right, you can make #‎ROTT '95 levels to play in #ROTT 2013. Ludicrous.

Can they make it so that you can covert maps from the original ROTT directly into ROTT 2013? The original map format is probably simple enough to pull this off.

Ludicrous Development Kit. I love it. If you had told me that Interceptor would be this on top of shit three years ago, I would have called you a liar.

Maybe Fresch wasn't kidding when he blamed everyone else for the problems he had when his studio was starting. The man has a vision.
