Some personal highlights of that thread Posted Image:

Oh the irony!

Original post:

Quote

I know it's a bit early, but when Duke Nukem Forever is released, would people start making a high resoluion pack for it? It would have state of the art graphics now, but so did Duke Nukem 3D when it was released (until Quake anyway).
So, you know the question. On a side note, will people continue the HRP for Duke 3D after Forever is released?

Quote

i doubt the fans will be able to do better than the pros can do in 2009

Quote

I have feeling that this game could be as system hungry as Crysis.

Quote

We should start working on the LRP right away.

Quote

Nope won't be necessary because DNF will be looking great enough.

Quote from High Treason, the second part was definitely accurate:

Quote

DNF certainly won't need a HRP when it is released, and by the time it does, we probably won't be on these forums anymore for some reason

It was definitely a wild ride.
Also apparently I've only been in this community for 4 years, feels like longer Posted Image

It's really strange to go back to the late 90s and see names and avatars that dissappeared from the scene before I even started looking. Lots of history. Oodles.

I mean, has anyone taken the time to read thr My linkough the greatest hits lately?

The fact that Scott actually read what I had said about a new Shadow Warrior surprised me.

I really want them to release the old alphas and betas of DN3D. I mean, they released LameDuke a year after the initial release, why have the other ones with all the other unused things been released? I don't think they would just throw the stuff away. Yet I honestly don't think anyone has actually asked for them to be released (or at least didn't ask in the appropriate way), and I'm being dead serious.

The Blood source code has been asked to be released since the BUILD source was released (probably before), and look where we're at now, a whole "Well they own it, but we own it, but they must agree to it, oh wait, what game is this? We've never heard of it." Duke Nukem 3d is not in a situation like that, so I'm sure they could be released, and I doubt any legal issues would be around for them. Just as long as they release them unsupported (like LameDuke).

MAYBE this will restore some faith for us, but anyways... where the hell has George B. been since DNF's release?

I tried.

Joe Siegler said:

I do not have permission to do that, nor are you going to get it from those who have it, either.

There are legal issues you're not aware of which prevent that.

Joe…

I asked him because of the image of that CD with betas he posted on 3DR way back. However, by my best guess I reason that he sent at least the stuff for "Duke Nukem 2D" to Nacho so this article could be made. (Nacho holds the honorable status of a moderator on 3DR, and he did not name his source for the 2D stuff.) Nacho also has an unreleased beta of Duke Nukem: Endangered Species that he does not intend to release. (There are relevant quotes available if you search.)

Those are not the ones I mean, those games were never released. I'm talking about the early versions of Duke Nukem 3d. It would make absolutely no sense if there were legal issues. LameDuke was released a year after the initial release, and that's probably the earliest build. I think Joe is just saying that because he's Joe.

It does say "Duke Nukem 3d" but why the hell would he show us this and then say "There's legal issues" that is just foolish. If the game was never released, I'm sure there would be legal issues, but releasing the left over bits of things (art, music, etc) from a game that was released, and even the 1st known build was released, there shouldn't be a legal issue. I know I'm rambling.

Legal issues can pile on after 15 years, man.

Yes, but there should be no legal issues as that is still their game.

Actually, I wouldn't doubt it if there were all kinds of legal issues in releasing it. Our legal system is garbage.

Any deals made at the time could have dramatic problems for them now if they can't get rights to certain things. If engines were developed outside the copyright, if they outsourced for sound or graphics. Publishing deals, production deals. All manner of crap.

It's a shame really. I'd love to see early versions of Shadow Warrior. Not to mention Blood getting a proper full on source code refurbishing. (The Eduke32 Blood TC we have here is probably the closest we'll ever get to that.) ... I'd love to see a Blood III, too.

EDIT: Yes I miss the 3dr forums heyday as well.

I'm glad. Honestly, I wasn't sure when I started this thread what the reaction was going to be. I was a little worried there might be some animosity towards the idea I was presenting, or the feelings behind it even. It seems like at least on some level a lot of us do miss it? At least, some of the faces and names that seemed to fall by the wayside over the years.

Blood 3? Actually, someone from Monolith mentioned about 4 years ago that they were interested in making a Blood 3. I would also love to see the older Shadow Warrior builds, mainly the very first one because of those damn dragons and ninja looking things. I am actually going to try and make the beta pig from scratch, since it looked very much like the concept art one.

I think there have been continual problems with making another Blood game due to some strange ownership related bull.

See, I just really wanna see 3DR get back on top again. I really think their money ticket would be a +++ remake of Shadow Warrior. Give it a little more self identity from Duke3D. Perhaps, pick which side of the asian fence to really be on (Japanese or Chinese, etc), tweak a few of the concepts to be mucho more fun. The whole ninja swordplay element would be a lot of fun, and I don't think it would need to be changed to a third person game. I think it would work wonderfully as an FPS.

Yes. They should also bring back / add more enemies instead of using every available ninja recolor. And zero tolerance for platforming sections like the lava pit in Sumo Sky Palace/Fortress.

We all have a soft spot related to 3Drealms in some way. For me it was my very first Duke 3d video that got front paged by Joe after seeing it on Youtube from a member of the forum. But the very best thing for me that came out of being a member on 3Drealms it that very good friend of mine, Steven Johnson.

That was one thing you could never get away with on 3DR though. The rules weren't too strict, but there were some hot buttons you dare not press or you'd be having words with an admin. Definitely not anything like what Gearbox turned into, friggin Gestopa state.

Yeah, we can all be as gay as we want on Duke4.net, that's one of the reasons I love this site. In the time I was over at 3D Realms under my current alias I was never talked to by an admin.

A Shadow Warrior remake/sequel would be really good, but I could have sworn that Scott Miller (or someone) was talking about a RoTT reboot some time ago - personally, I would preffer SW as I was never a fan of RoTT - I've come to the conclusion that I don't dislike it but it just doesn't seem to tick the right boxes.

That and the charachters are less satisfying in my homoerotic fantasies than Lo Wang :)

No ban policy and few locked threads. We are expected to behave and don't need a Joe to tell us right from wrong.
I made three friends here so far, OK not gay gay, but a model expert, movie God and mapper. Who knows perhaps in ten years we will do a touching 'remember when'?

Definitely. I'm not gay myself, but I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to play gay for a joke or girl it up to go see Rocky Horror Picture Show. I don't really give a shit what people think. People should be allowed to express themselves in whatever manner they want. [/political]
