Resident Evil 2 TC  "This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore."

It is honestly nothing personel against you Dk2; it's just that many of us have been here in the community a long time - to date I can't think of a single time where a thread was announced about a mod with no media and have it be succesful. That goes for any game. As ReaperMan's just said the best thing to do is work on smaller mods by yourself; get some experience under yourself before aiming so high. I've falled victim to this myself; Survival was announced far too early and ended up paying the price. AMC TC was far more succesful in this regard. If there's actually lots of work done on a mod than finding people to help will be easier; nobody wants to work and have it all wasted if the mod's leader suddenly gives up.

...This is quite possibly the most arbitrary application of the race-card I've ever seen. No one on this forum would've known what your ethnicity was had you not volunteered it just now. Also, what James, Mikko and C.A said.

That's so dishonest, it's definitely because he's black. :D

Not that it matters, but I've seen his pic on msn and he is not what I would call "black". He has a lot of struggles using english.

Struggling with language or being short-tempered on (mostly) fair comments? I'd confirm the latter at least.

I notice it too, we need to have a thread to teach people how to be nicer to new members or something or the community will never grow.

Making something good usually takes a lot of time. Give the guy a break. If this get's done, that's good. If it doesn't, what the hell, nobody dies. There is absolutely no reason to start blaming him.

The thing is, these types of projects never get done. Why? Because the goal is to recreate the whole game.

What I learned is that the best thing to do in these cases is make a lengthy or moderate prototype of it. Don't focus on elements all across the game, just plan a small portion and release it. I'm happier just to get a demo of something than nothing at all.

By taking the route of prototyping the game, releasing it, and calling it a day is the best way to get things done for remaking said games as a demake or remake.

I like that you took the time to confirm whether or not he is actually black :D

I don't think the community is really the problem, to be honest. I mean, you were a 'noob' at one point, but you never acted like one. I was perhaps the King of the Noobs back in the day, but I've mostly cleaned up my act. (Okay, not really.)

Whats the point in remaking a game in the first place? It's just brash unoriginality, and if I wanted to play Resident Evil 2 I'd just go drag out a Playstation. Why not do something new? Hell, you could even use the Resident Evil universe as a base, but a remake? Boring!

This isn't really true; we've had other new comers who have received a warm welcome. It's only people who join up with pie in the sky ambitions and who are rude when we offer some honest criticism that get backlash or treated rudely. We shouldn't have to tread on eggshells to welcome someone if they don't pay any kind of respect themselves. As far as I'm concerned we're far far better at treating new members than other communities. There's no circle-jerking going on around here and there's no real 'cliques' that we've formed ourselves into (There was that kind of stuff don't get me wrong - but as we've all matured we grew out of that)

Ideas are easy. Making them work? A long arduous process with a lot of potential pitfalls and problems.

"When I opened this topic and saw no media, I thought to myself "Ah, another idea thread = nothing""

Now that's a warm welcome.

"Stupid thread is stupid."

More rudeness.

Yes, because real life is all about teddy bears and candy canes and no one is ever rude. Ever. When you're a child wandering into the middle of the movie, life stops at your convenience, and they explain what happened to you.

It is one thing, to come in and say "Hey guys, I'm new, and I think I'd like to get into modding. Can you help me start?" and completely different to write a HUEG WALL OF TEXT explaining the intricacies of something that does not exist while expecting a group of other people to come in and make your poorly thought out and boring idea come to fruition, while you sit back in your high-chair as the "group leader."

Well, if Wolfe would of said something nice it would of ruined his image of being a semi-troll and at-least Cody is honest.

I suppose James is right seeing as not every new guy is treated badly (i know i wasn't), but i kind of feel that alot of people are rude right off the get go when they encounter people like DK2, before they even explain to him why they aren't going to help, they are rude to him.

You can see new members posting their honest opinions and they will get multiple downvotes becaues of trolling. Including me. I didn't like amc tc, i wrote that in a very honest and not rude post, and it got voted down.

And wolfe. If this was real life, you wouldn't be trolling like that.

The voting system doesn't really mean anything. You shouldn't really care about it, i mean Wolfe has 200+ votes. :D

I didn't vote you down personally, but I do think you like to play devil's advocate and go against other people's opinions. You said you enjoyed it though, just not megabase?

And there is nothing wrong with that; I wouldn't call it "trolling". If someone strongly disagrees with your opinion, they will vote it down. That's what the voting system is for. I'm not really a fan of the rep system myself, but if it's going to exist then it's reasonable to expect it will be used to evaluate honest opinions, among other things.

I think what's more important than showing something done on the current project you're trying to get help with is already having released some high quality work. I remember a while back I was making a mini mod based of the marathon series (basically it would've been an episode with all-new textures). I made a lot of progress importing hi-res textures, and had remade at least half the first level of marathon 2 (imo remaking it a lot harder than building something original, now I know why the duke 64 mod is taking so long), but was going to make some original levels based on the texture set, and I asked if anyone could code some weapons for which I already had the art, funnily enough no one volunteered. As I understand it at the time I had only released some a-bit-below average maps so people would have thought the mod wouldn't be very good and hence not be worth putting time into, despite me showing videos and screenshots.

Edit: I did try to go on with the original duke weapons but if anyone's wondering I abandoned it because the remake map got corrupted and I lost a lot of work. That, and like people have already said, doing a remake is kind of boring.

You don't know me very well. I'm like Scott The Dick from South Park in real life. I am a master troll.

Bingo!
But as an aside, I think it is a useful marker if someone can't even manage to have a positive rating. If I can do it, anyone can do it. So if you don't have one, you must really suck.

This is what I don't understand either fucking e-penises

Anyway, this is the CORRECT way a new person should introduce/or talk about their mod.

fine, everybody here is talking about trolling.
well, I've talked with some buddies and I'll not make this remake. I will do a parallel story.
Is better, Some friends gave me this idea, instead of being criticizing me all the time.
Thanks to those who find my idea interesting, or just liked my initiative.
ONE MORE THING: I will not give up on doing the mod. ahHAHHAHAHHAHAHh

Tanks to hendricks, helping me on Sound conversion,
and DeeperThought, that helped me a long time ago with some projectiles definitions and other shit :D

Want to know what I'm doing now?
Well I'm creating new textures, 3d models, decals and converting some soundtracks to use in the game.

killing curiosity: Posted Image

Every texture will be changed. I'll not use HRP's original textures.

Soon, there will be more screenshots. wait.
